Thomas Nelson Need You Now: Part 1 - eBook

Married life hasn't always been bliss for Brad and Darlene, but their strong faith has carried them through the difficult times. When Darlene takes a job outside the home for the first time in their marriage, the domestic tension rises. While working with special needs children at her new job, Darlene meets a little boy who steals her heart. His widowed father is paying more attention to her than is probably appropriate. Problem is, she feels like someone is listening for the first time in a long time.

I love reading romance book but it was refreshing to read a romance book on an already married couple and the struggles they go through. It was refreshing to relate to issues of today, and parenting worries and family tragedies. Well written, I finished it in a day. 5 stars and I mean all 5!

This is an excellent book for anyone who has been touched by loss of intimate conversation and true love. It is so important to remember that God often sends us messages through His servants but we must be faithful and willing to listen and obey.

I was blown away by Beth Wiseman's first breakaway novel as she usually writes Amish fiction. Beautiful work on marriage, commitment, and teen's issues. Read it!!!

I am so glad that I have this book sitting on my desk to finish because I don't think I would have been able to wait to finish it until the release date! This book is full of real life circumstances to a "normal" marriage. It's full of real temptations, of raw pain, and hiding that pain to the point that its no longer felt. It's full of good choices and bad choices. Most importantly, it's a story of a woman who seeks appreciation, isn't aware of what is being hidden from her by her children, and needs God now.
Darlene has decided that now that the children are older and don't need her as much, now would be the perfect time to get a part-time job. However, that part-time job turns into a full time job which she loves. It's not that she doesn't need the money, which she explains very delicately to Brad. It's that she wants to make a difference in somebody's life. So she takes on a job at a special needs facility where she becomes a one-on-one aide for Cora. Cora's dad has lost his wife a few years ago and is normally a man who is not very friendly. However, as he sees Cora relax around Darlene and even laugh, he can't help wanting to know that women a bit more deeply than he should.
In the meantime, the reason Darlene and Brad moved to the country is to protect their older son from the friends he was hanging out with and the choices he was making. Her daughter Grace is trying to hide her pain that no one knows that she feels so deeply, and Ansley is just a special girl with no problem in particular that anyone can explain fully. They just know that something is a bit "off."

Beth Wiseman's break from Amish fiction was a surprise, but she has not failed to draw the reader into the story, making them feel a part of the character's lives.
Darlene's kids are growing up. Her husband works full time. And she feels that it is time for her to get a job. It isn't about the money; her husband makes enough for them to live comfortably. She just wants a chance to get out and make a difference for someone else. She begins teaching at a special school. Darlene is the only teacher that does not have a degree of any sort. She is hired simply because she is a mom of teenage children. She begins working with Cara, a young autistic girl.
After reading the first half of this book, I am hooked. I can't wait to read the second half and find out what happens to Layla. Does she forgive God for the hurts of the past? What about Darlene's daughter Grace, who has been cutting herself? Does she accept God's plan for her life, knowing that doesn't include self-inflected pain? What does Darlene do about the growing attraction Dave, Cara's father, seems to have for her?
Love, romance, intrigue, suspense, pain, suffering, fear, hopes, dreams, heartbreak. All natural feelings and emotions. Things we all deal with in our day-to-day lives. Beth Wiseman has a way with words that make us become a part of her story and feel these emotions with her, and with her characters.

Beth Wiseman is an author I've been reading for a while. I've really enjoyed her Amish books, and so when I was given an opportunity to review this new, non-Amish novel of hers, I was a willing participant! However, there's just something missing. The characters seem a little forced, and with every press of the button on my e-reader, I kept thinking that I'd find climax of the story or some kind of development in the characters' lives. Halfway through the book's finish (i.e. Finished reading Part 1), I'm curious to find out what happens to the characters. So far it seems that there are too many puzzle pieces that are left cluttering the table.
Darlene is a mother of three, has been a stay-at-home mom for many years. Now that her children are adolescents and are able to be fairly self-sufficient, she feels the desire to branch out. Her husband, a staunch provider, doesn't like the idea of Darlene getting a job outside the home, but supports her anyway. After Darlene gets a job as a teacher's aid at a school for special students, things start to fall apart in her family.
There are several other characters thrown into the story--the mysterious lady neighbor next door who has her own ranch but looks like a supermodel, the father of her student who develops feelings for Darlene, and friends of her children.
The story feels like it's coming together, but like I've said, it's just missing some "oomph." I'm excited to read the second half of the story to see what happens!

I enjoyed Part 1 of this book, and am eagerly waiting for the second half!
Beth Wiseman writes fearlessly with the stresses and struggles that are an inevitable part of a marriage and raising children. She doesn't shy away from letting the characters in this book face some problems and challenges. I think many readers will be able to relate to this book, and be comforted by the fact that they are not the only ones who struggle.
Wiseman doesn’t sugarcoat things, but deals honestly with the issues that arise in even “good” families and loving marriages. The authentic characters she creates must deal with both joy and pain, but the book as a whole is hopeful. Can’t wait to read the rest of it! It will be interesting to see how the various plot threads all resolve. I predict this project will greatly expand Wiseman’s already large and enthusiastic fan base.
