Barbour Publishing A Quaker Christmas - Ohio

Christmas is a simple matter among the Quakers of the historic Ohio River Valley, but can it be time to welcome love into four households? The Hall family runs an inn that welcomes travelers like Silas Jones who challenge their beliefs and woo their daughter. Widowed Lucinda Hughes mourns her husband's death, while Will Davis blames himself for his friend's demise. Keturah Wilkes is curious and outspoken among her community, which leads her to trouble among Henry Mangun's rowdy family. Susannah Griffith has only been an observer of her new husband's activity with the Underground Railroad until this Christmas Eve.

Each story was different and it was worth buying. I love to read Amish and Quaker books.
So much fun to go from each story to the next one. Good authors.

Four Quaker Families Open Their Homes and Hearts With Others!
Mary is leary of Silas who is not respectful of their Quaker ways and beliefs, but can they each come to a mutual understanding?
Will feels responsible for a fatal accident that claimed the life of his best friend, Alan. Can Alan's widow Lucinda accept what was and look ahead to what is yet to become?
Some say the River Pirates are a legend of the past, while others believe they still rule the waters and land. Henry longs to escape from his questionable lifestyle. When Henry rescues a woman who has fallen into the water his priorities take on a new promise. Each possesses a different belief and way of life but can the two successfully blend their future?
For Susanna, the wife of an Underground Railroad Abolitionist, life can be lonely indeed for the times when Nathan is away. When a runaway slave shows up at her door one cold night looking for a way to escape the injustices of the South, Susanna is given an opportunity to make a difference and to prove her equality.
Using authentic language of the Quaker Friends in conversations added to the charm of these novellas. It did take some getting used to the language used in the beginning of reading but I soon got lost in them! I enjoyed them all but my favorites were: Pirate of My Heart and Equally Yoked. The suspense was gripping! The overall messages are inspiring and I was challenged in my faith. I highly recommend these well written novellas!

All the stories in this anthology were fantastic. My favorite was "Equally Yoked" by Claire Sanders. She is a marvelous writer and her faith shines through in nearly every word she writes. I loved the devotion and commitment her hero (Nathan) and heroine (Susanna) have for each other. I really feel this story speaks to faith and the highest devotion to God. Very inspiring. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to have their faith renewed for their spouse and for God.

FOUR stories in one book! As these four ladies got together and compiled all these stories about the Quakers and I begin to read, I was so thrilled. Each story tells about a family that is related to the Quaker type of living.
As Lauralee Bliss begins the book with "A Crossroad to Love" near a crossroad near Wyanesville, Ohio in the year of 1846. Silas Jones was on his way to Independence and wanted to get there before the snow got too bad but his horse had other thoughts as his hoof was infected and Silas had to get off. Now he wondered where he was and how he was going to get to Independence when a man came alone that spoke like a Quaker and told him there was a house just up the way. That is when this story really begins.
The second story "Simple Gifts" by Ramona Cecil begins with Lucinda Hughes, pregnant and a widow was struggling to try to make it on her own, but she had some help with her late husband's friend Will Davis. He always stopped by from his work at the mill, where her husband had been killed. Lucinda was disappointed in her faith and God because of her young husband's death, so she had even stopped going to the "Friends Meetings". Will she get back into the Friends faith or will she just give up on God.
The third story "Pirate of My Heart" is written by Rachael Phillips and features Keturah Wilkes, she loves God but is questioning the Quaker Faith as their belief on celebrating Christmas. She loved to decorate but her family did not, so she slipped and made some Christmas items just for herself. She meets a young man named Henry Mangum that came from a family that didn't mind stealing from others and drinking and having a good time, but he had been to a meting that had opened his eyes to the wrong way of life. He had started going to the meetings where Keturah went but his handsome brother also noticed the pretty young woman, who will win her hand or will both of them lose to someone else?
The fourth story "Equally Yoked" by Claire Sanders features the "underground railroad" and finds Susanna Griffith alone with her young husband gone to help with another person with this project. She finds herself alone when a young pregnant run-away slave comes to her door so she takes her in to help her. How will Susanna handle this and what if she gets caught?
This book was sent to me by one of the authors Lauralee Bliss for me to read and I chose to review it.
