I love the theme and premises of the book and the videos; but, the lesson plan is geared primarily to the video and doesn't seem to tie in the book real well. Thinking of breaking each of 4 lessons into three parts, reading 1-2 chapters per week and watching a video every third week for a 12-week course. As I said, the book won't necessarily follow or tie in well though.

Any person who teaches history - US, World, Western Civ, should have this book as required reading. It gives a concise perspective on the impact of Christ on all aspects of social, economic and political developments which have laid the foundation for 'civil' society for 2,000 years. Where His message and teachings have been corrupted, that is fallen mans' responsibility. A wonderful book.

This was an eye-opening read. I appreciate how John Ortberg put the biblical text/truth in context and connected that truth to everyday life. A great read!

Some may find this book different than John Ortberg's normal writings. You kind of have to be ready for it. It's not a 'how to live the Christian life better' book. It takes the biblical message of Jesus and looks into the historical and cultural settings that are significant to the greater understanding of Jesus' teachings. His impact on humanity is more than salvation for the soul, but validating the worth of mankind no matter one's lot. When you take these things into consideration, the meaning of Jesus' teachings are better understood and grasped.

“Who is this Man?” by John Ortberg is a superbly written, masterfully presented case of the ever increasing impact of Jesus life. Unlike the other great “men” of history whose impact and popularity peaked during their life and ensuing death, Jesus impact was the exact opposite. Historical giants, like Julius Caesar and Buddah, looked to cement their place in history through conquest and statues; whereas, Jesus never sought worldwide recognition and dominion, although encourage to at times in his ministry. Based solely on their lives’ worldwide/earthly impacts, Jesus life would be ranked near the bottom. Where Jesus differs from the rest is in his death and resulting resurrection. The great equalizers death and time are what took down history’s other great figures, but neither were strong enough to keep Jesus (God in human form) from fulfilling his destiny of redeeming his creation. His impact has increased exponentionally since his resurrection and still continues to shape the world today. Not one other historical/religious leader can make such a claim.
I found this book very insightful and informative. If you are looking for a well laid out argument to present to those who claim that Jesus was just another “prophet”, you need to read “Who is this Man?” so you can be ready to give an answer to those who question or mock.

This book contains unique perspectives on how Jesus can be viewed. Innovative and original, a very thoughtful work that extols the person of Jesus and advances the Christian cause. In some ways, it reminds me of another book entitled What Heaven's Son Achieved. Truly, Jesus is Inescapable for the mature and serious person seeking the Truth of Life and Love! And, further, Unpredictabilities (unforeseen and unimagined) are still yet to come as the author of this fine book declares in his intriguing title. 'Who is this Man' is a well-chosen title, indeed! And the book answers this question in many well-thought-out ways! Worth every penny! And a wise investment of the reader's time and reflection!

An excellent read. The simplicity with which it's written makes it easy for anyone to understand. He logically presents everything. Makes following the Savior "This Man" worth every bit of effort.

Although this book provides a lot historical information, it is not the authors normal style. Thus it is not as engaging as the others, i.e. "...got get out of the Boat", "... it all goes back in the box", ''God is Closer than you think", etc. Each of these books were written in a manner that open the door for new prospective and gave you life application examples. Because I enjoyed the other books, I have bought the audible version as well, so I can listen to them while traveling. I would not by the audible version of this book.
