In response to Dr. Conny Williams, I would correct her assumption that she was mispronouncing everything. If the Israelis were correcting her Biblical (or Classical) Hebrew by the standard of Sephardi Hebrew, then they were the mistaken ones, not you. These are two different phonological systems (with Sephardi being the more synthetic of the two). And neither is Modern Hebrew a proper gauge of correctness. I would place a little more faith in the CD because it is teaching Biblical Hebrew phonology, not Sephardi or Modern Hebrew phonology. Not to mention having the benefit of two Hebrew scholars assessing its authenticity.

I have this cd and I was disappointed because the pronunciations are not correct. I teach the Basic Hebrew course. The course is ok but the vocabulary confused our students with the pronunciation being very American and not consistent. After going to Israel and finding out that today Sefard Hebrew was spoken it was disappointing to be corrected in our pronunciation of particular Biblical Hebrew words. If you just want to learn to interpret it is ok I suppose, but if you really want to learn Hebrew for study and speech I do not recommend that CD.

The approach to the vocabulary was poorly done. The only reason I purchased the program is that I was under the impression it was structured as well as the Basic Greek Courses that I have. In the description about the Hebrew vocabulary, it was stated that it was as the Basic Greek course, THAT REALLY WAS NOT TRUE! I would not encourage anyone to get this course (vocabulary)! However the Basic Greek Course is a 5 star with me. The layout is GREAT!!!

I got this thinking it would supercharge my (re)learning of Hebrew. The CD is simply a reading of each of the words in the order of lessons from Pratico & Van Pelt's textbook. After each word is read, there is a pause, and the English word is given. After a while, you become good at guessing the word before the English word is said. However, because it is always in the same order, you sometimes can guess the next word on the list without even hearing the Hebrew word! If there was some way to randomize the lists or combine the lists for a cumulative quiz of all the chapters studied so far, this would be an excellent resource. The advantage of this CD is that you get to hear all the words pronounced. If you are a beginner, this is critical (I'm reviving my Hebrew after 22 years). Proper pronunciation is key to fixing the sound of each word in your head for proper storage and recall. If you are shaky on pronunciation, you will pronounce it one way one time and a different way a different time, and this thwarts storage and recall. Also, if your pronunciation is not consistent, you confuse similar words.I would recommend this to people who are starting from scratch and want to learn Hebrew on their own. I think having a pronunciation guide is quite important in the absence of a live instructor. However, for those trying to revive the Hebrew, I'm not sure how helpful it is. My advice is GET THE FLASH CARDS.

Contains ONLY CD-audio files, but is labeled as having MP3 and M4B (iPod) files as well. Zondervan has been no help in resolving this.
