After 28 years as a public school teacher, I must say that I am now finding the arena of Christian education to be much different. And those distinctions are exactly what Dr. Albert Greene addresses. Having spent over 40 years in Christian education, he offers valuable insights for those desiring to teach "Christianly." Contemporary thinking and values are contrasted with the Christian worldview and philosophy of education. The author asserts that our academic disciplines should be used to help our students know God in and through His creation and that knowing God should result in a deepening desire to worship and serve Him. The book is laid out in four sections describing 1) the intellectual, philosophical and historical background of education; 2) the aspects of basic Christian philosophy; 3) content in Christian education curricula; and 4) methods of teaching in a Christian school. The principal at my Christian school made the statement that being a Christian teacher and teaching Christianly are two different things. Now having read this book, I think I have a much better understanding of that difference. I recommend this book for those who are interested in the true purpose of Christian education in todays world.
