I only wish I had found this curriculum at the beginning of our year!
I have a son who has Sensory Processing issues and is a Visual-Spatial learner. Traditional textbook/workbook programs did not work for him at all. Many people recommended Math U See or Right Start, but we just couldn't afford to spend $100+ on math alone!
I spent hours researching and decided to give MCP a try and I'm so glad we did. It has been EXACTLY what my son needs! It is truly a multi-sensory learning approach - using stories, poems, songs, games and hands-on manipulatives (bonus - items you have in your home!) to teach the lesson.
I love that every lesson starts with a mental warm up game-like Q&A, then it truly teaches the concept, and then gives a couple workpages for review. Every lesson also has extra ideas for teaching a child that's struggling to grasp a concept.
Some have said that there's not enough review, but I think this is easily dealt with - You can spread the lesson out over a couple of days, just use one worksheet per day instead of both. Use the extra reinforcement ideas they list. And you can always play with manipulatives to reinforce the concept, or borrow some of the MathStart books from the library that go along with your lesson. If you really feel like you need more, use online sites like to help reinforce (you can do 20 questions per day, free), or go online and print off some free math worksheets. We have yet needed anything extra.
I think this is a great program, and the only one I see us using. My son used to dread math, now he loves it!
