Sally5 Stars Out Of 5good fiction for kidsAugust 23, 2014SallyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I appreciated the author's focus on various hymns and hymn-writers of the early centuries (information is not easily found elsewhere).
I also liked that the author points out that these hymn-writers were not perfect - and we may not agree with everything they said and done, but they still wrote a beautiful hymn that glorifies God.
Also, the author points out a couple times throughout the book what exactly makes a song a "hymn". And how to keep our focus on God. He mentions in general the "7-11" songs, and other contemporary songs that you can't even tell they're being sung to God. (Which I've experienced myself - "oh, what a great love song......oh, wait, that's a song to GOD????" - Not that we shouldn't sing love songs to God, but shouldn't we be a bit more in awe of God than we are our BF/GF?)
Anyway, good book. I'm eager to purchase and read more in this series.
