Author Allia Zobel Nolan is a former senior editor at Readers' Digest, and is currently a bestselling author of over 160 books for children and adults. Her latest offering from Zondervan is entitled Whatever: Livin' the True, Noble and Totally Excellent Life.
Whatever is a 90 day devotional for tween girls. I'd say in looking through it, it's probably for an 8 year old or an advanced reader. As a 45 year old Father of boys, I don't know how much help I can be with this book (ha ha). Do kids still say "whatever?" That was something the valley girls said in my generation back in the 80's.
"Whatever" means "I don't care." It means "do what you want." It means "the results don't matter." And typically we think it's "cool" not to care, but what Nolan tries to convey in his book is that the things that come our way need to be tested and not tossed aside (or consumed) so flippantly.
This devotional has many topics that are relatable to tween girls. Nolan talks about the internet, fashion, bullying in schools, gossip and friends and being a part of your local church. Each devotional and topic is easy to read and comes packed with sound biblical encouragement.
Nolan has a gentle and caring voice that I think young girls would appreciate, pick this one up.
