To everyone who knows her, Annalise Decker is a model wife and mother. She's a permanent member of the PTA, never misses her kids' sporting events, and is constantly campaigning for her husband's mayoral race.

No one knows that Annalise was once Deidre O'Reilly, a troubled young woman whose testimony put a dangerous criminal behind bars. Relocated through the Witness Security Program to the sleepy town of Deep Haven, Deidre got a new identity and a fresh start, which began when she fell in love with local real estate agent Nathan Decker. Twenty years later, Annalise couldn't be more unprepared for her past to catch up with her.

WOW! Fantastic book!
This is the first book by Susan May Warren that I have ever read. I was captivated by the story before I even finished the prologue. By the time I was halfway through it I was checking to see if the library had some of her other books. I’m hooked and excited about the idea of reading everything she has written.
The character development is wonderful. The biblical insights were thought provoking. They made me think deeply about the application of New Testament teaching on how to live life and treat those we are closest to.

The followings are my honest opinions about this book.To anyone interested in it: why not give it a try and see if you like it?
I was very excited when I got this book and it was with great anticipation that I started reading it the very same day it arrived, as I was hoping to get a GREAT read. I really tried to enjoy it, I really did, but in the end, I found it to be...a good read.
The idea for the novel is very interesting. For her each of novels I've read so far, I thought that Warren's ideas were well-thought. The beginning of this book was full of nail-biting suspense but as I kept reading I found a good part of the story to be very repetitive and slow and I found the characters' development to be lacking.
I mean, maybe it was because she was hiding secrets and all, but I just couldn't bring myself to like Annalise... she seemed fake. Overall, I didn't feel like the characters were real people at times. Nathan, Frank, Helen, Colleen and the others just seem very distant, in my opinion as a reader. Everything they did -and even who they were- all of it seemed to stay on surface level.
YDKM is a good title because there are many characters with secrets. However, at times I thought the story seemed like a mix of characters' thoughts and actions, not an adventure I could dive into. Not a journey I could savor .
But my heart was moved because of poor Tucker! Oh, poor guy, always being misunderstood and all. And there were some things said that really gave me a pause, including an opinion on marriage that Helen's sister gave to her :
' I've learned that marriage isn't just for our joy, but to make us stronger, better people. To change us into the people God wants us to be....' (p. 169).
Then the real story behind the novel mentioned in the author's notes... Heartbreaking. (Oh, Lord have mercy...)
A good read.
Maybe not a page-turning one, in my opinion. More than halfway through, I skimmed and skipped some parts just to get to the end. And the plot did end up picking my curiosity by the way, and I found the ending to be quite lovely.
I'm still very opened to the idea of giving another one of Warren's novels a try.

Everyone in Deep Haven thinks that Annalise and Nathan Decker have a perfect life with their three children, Jason, Colleen and Henry. Nathan's a successful real estate agent who's running for mayor, she's a soccer mom to three children who volunteers at Goodwill and bakes perfect cookies. But everything is not what it seems. Nathan's business is in the red, he’s spent Jason’s college fund on his mayoral campaign and Annalise has just had a visitor from the past--Frank, who was responsible for rescuing drug addict Deidre O'Reilly twenty years ago, as part of a witness security programme, and relocating her to Deep Haven.
And Annalise hasn't told her husband that Jason has auditioned for the lead in the school play instead of getting a job like Nathan wanted, that Colleen is dating a bad boy and Henry wants to quit soccer. And she hasn't told him that Uncle Frank isn't really her uncle, but is here to warn her that Garcia is out of prison and wants to make good on his threat to murder her for putting him inside for the last twenty years.
The Deep Haven stories have gradually changed from new love and romance with an element of suspense to romantic suspense featuring married couples with children and teenagers. Yes, there is still a Happy-Ever-After, but the focus has changed (and I'm still waiting for Lisa from the first book to get her HEA). While part of me really enjoyed the young love stories, it’s good to see an author whose stories and characters are staying true to the readership and growing with us. It makes the stories relevant in a different way, as we see characters struggling in their lives and marriages, yet finding a way to forgive and stay true to their marriage vows.
As with the previous Deep Haven novels, You Don’t Know Me is well written, with engaging characters facing problems we can relate to (well, keeping secrets and things not always being what they seem, if not the part about being an ex-drug addict in a witness security programme), and a clear but understated Christian element. The book was inspired by a real-life situation, which makes it all the more poignant. An enjoyable read.

Susan May Warren is an author that I enjoy immensely. She writes prolifically. I honestly don't know how she writes as many books as she does -- and they're all creative and the type that pull me deeply into the story. With You Don't Know Me, she explores the theme of secrets and how it impacts those we love.
Annalise Decker has it all. Everybody acknowledges it, but the reality is her life is a lie. And now her past is ready to catch her. Hidden by Witness Protection, her worst fears are realized when the man she testified against comes after her. No one knows she has a new identity and the truth could destroy everything she has and the people she loves.
As the story spins out, the secrets others have harbored and the pain they create spins an intricate web. While there is a small sense of suspense, this is really a story of healing from the past, couples with a nice romance with strong secondary characters. An engaging, enjoyable read.

Can you imagine what it would be like to be suddenly thrust into the Witness Protection Program, leaving behind everything and everyone you know, to start all over again?
You Don't Know Me asks that emotionally charged question. Deidre O'Reilly has had to start her life all over once 20 years ago, so when faced with being moved again she has many challenging decisions to make.
Susan May Warren writes a fast moving tale filled with action, and emotions that run deep. I loved how fast the pages turned and how it had me on the edge of my seat, worried to death how they would ever untangle the mess they were in!
The characters were strongly written and the plot was very touching and poignant. Ms. Warren worte every aspect of this book with such meaning and suspense, that even though this wasn't exactly my style, I came away satisfied and an even bigger fan of Ms. Warren than before.
I don't want to give too much away so I'd better stop talking pretty soon, but this is a book that I highly recommend, as a fast paced emotionally charged read that requires a whole box of tissues to get through!
I received this book from the publisher through Litfuse in exchange for an honest review! Thanks!

Do you know who your neighbors are? I mean, REALLY know who they are?
Susan May Warren has woven an intricate, intriguing story about a young woman, Annalise Decker, who is in the Witness Security Program after testifying again drug lord, Luis Garcia. Her life became established like any normal family life would in Deep Haven. Except she has secrets. Secrets she’s told no one, not even her husband and children. However, secrets usually come back to haunt you one way or another. This happens to Annalise when Garcia jumps parole and strikes out to find and kill her twenty years later.
Susan’s superb suspense book starts out with the typical heart-warming and sometimes tense Decker family issues ranging from cancer, other-side-of-the-track boyfriend, small family arguments, and a husband running for mayor. Nathan’s issues of trying to better himself, Annalise’s multiple activities in the community and family, children in school and doing well academically, and both Nathan and Annalise involved in campaigning for Nathan as Deep Haven’s mayor sets the typical family scene.
Enter Agent Frank Harrison, aka Uncle Frank, and typical family life flies out the door. The chatter between Frank and Annalise raises suspicions, but not enough to divulge the “secret.” Plus, the romance between Frank and Nathan’s mother, Helen Decker, has a life of its own, and Nathan isn’t so sure he likes it! It’s important that an agent stays neutral in his cases, but Frank oversteps those lines and makes a dangerous situation worse.
The author’s multiple twists keep you hanging onto your seat. You think you have it figured out, and she throws a wrench into the plot! It ain’t over till it’s over. Just the way I like a great suspense story!
The issue of God and His loving care is carried through the doubts of Annalise as things keep falling apart. Will she learn to accept God’s love despite the circumstances? She’s been running and hiding for years. Will she run again when the Garcia gets close? Or will she trust God, her agent and her family? You can find out by picking up Susan’s book, You Don’t Know Me. A suspense and romance reader’s delight!

Annalise has left her past behind her, living in Deep Haven for 20 years. In those years she'd married Nathan, a real estate agent and mayoral candidate. Together they built a life that includes three children, and many good friends. The perfect life, or so she thought, until Annalise notices someone from her past sitting in the local coffee shop; where she had just purchased a cup of coffee.
You Don't Know Me by Susan May Warren had me hooked from the moment I began reading the prologue. Unfortunately for me, after I read the prologue, I decided to read the author's note, bad idea, because by reading the author's note first the surprise of discovery was lost for me. I kept reading even still and found myself reading until deep into the night to finish the story.
I felt connected to the characters, they felt real, and were dealing with everyday problems. As well as, not so every day problems. One of the main themes in this book was secrets and lies, and how they damage everything they touch. The another major theme is forgiveness: God's forgiveness and forgiveness for those who have hurt you. Lies and secrets destroy, but bringing lies and secrets into the light brings healing.
I do not remember reading any other books by Susan May Warren, but now that I have read You Don't Know Me, I will definitely choose to read more of her books. I loved how the characters jumped of the page and into my imagination. Someone once said something like this: reading is like a movie playing in your imagination, well I believe that Susan May Warren has the incredible talent to write in such a way that makes this saying so very true. I highly recommend this book and look forward to revisiting Deep Haven.

Nathan and Annalise Decker appear to be the perfect couple...he is running for Mayor of Deep Haven, and Annalise doesn't know the word "No". She is know as the Woman who does it all. She has three "perfect" Children, a Loving Husband, and the Mother-In-Law everyone would want...Helen.
But? Behind closed doors, things are not always as they appear. Annalise has been keeping a secret that even her husband of twenty years does know. She is not who she says she is...she is in Witness Protection. She was once know as Deidre O'Reilly, who as a young girl made very bad decisions.
Deidra defied her parents and ran away from home, she picked up with a drug dealer. In the end the king pin thought he had killed her. She ends up testifying against him, and he threatens he will kill her...either himself or through his connections.
She is put in the Northern Minnesota Town she now lives in and a fulfilling life with the typical ups and downs that parents experience. All that is put into jeopardy when "Uncle" Frank arrives to tell her that Garcia is out of jail.
Hard to imagine..what will she do? Should she leave and hope her family will be ok without her? Should they all leave, and the town think them dead? What about Helen? What a ride we begin, and can't put the book down until we know what is going to happen. Who is going to survive? Will things ever be the same?
Love that there is an epilogue in the book!
Enjoy your return visit to Deep Haven, there is even a few comments about the people we met in previous books!

I was hooked on this book from the first page. I must say, I don't always read the back of the book to find out an overview before I begin reading a book. I like to be surprised and try to figure out if the cover will give me any clues as to what the book is about. Let me just say that this cover was definitely not what I thought the book was about! Had I read the back of the book, I would have totally understood! I figured it had to do with a relationship, but I was thinking it was a romance book.
It is a romance book, to some degree. Annalise has a husband and 3 children and is the poster mom of perfection. She seems to have it all and to have a perfect life. Her husband is running for mayor and she seems to be the perfect mayor's wife. However, her past means that she doesn't need to be in the spotlight or she could put her family and herself in a deathly situation.
I loved this plot because I had not read much about the Witness Protection before and I found it very interesting. It was heartbreaking to think about having to tell my children goodbye for their own protection and to never know anything else about them. When I read the back where Susan May Warren talks about where she got the idea for this book, I was stunned. I guess that I never realized that people really do have to tell their families goodbye. It brought tears to my eyes when I thought of the poor lady on a plane to tell her daughter goodbye for a final time, knowing she'd never know what she'd grow up to be or what her life held for her.
I was flipping pages, anxious to find out what happens to Annalise and her family. Would she choose to disrupt her life again and start new? Could she really give up her family twice? I can't say enough about this plot because it was so intriguing to me. I found myself thinking about this book long after I closed it for the final time. This is a book that will demand your attention once you start reading!

Love this Deep Haven Novel!

Date:October 17, 2012
Susan May Warren’s latest novel, You Don’t Know Me, takes readers back to Deep Haven, and it was every bit as good as I had anticipated. Warren introduces us to the Decker family, and Annalise is hiding some huge secrets. As the past comes into the present, Annalise’s world begins to unravel and she’s forced to consider the choices she’s made and the secrets she’s kept.
Wow! Just wow! I wasn’t sure if I could totally buy into the premise of the book at first. Sure, it’s probably a little far-fetched at times, but Warren did a phenomenal job of bringing me into the story and helping me understand the emotions and logic behind each decision made. Plus, Warren delivers a novel with a wonderful message about how secrets and deception affect every aspect of your life—and those you love.
You Don’t Know Me is a fast-paced story with elements of suspense and romance woven throughout. I could hardly put it down! My fingers are crossed for another installment in the Deep Haven series! [5 stars]

I'd never really thought about it before. Sure, people go into a witness protection program, but how do they live their lives? Do they get married and have kids? Do they tell their spouse who they really are? What is it really like, living a lie?
We find out in Warren's latest book. A new life. A loving husband running for mayor of their town, Deep Haven. Nice kids. Active in the community and well respected.
And then the murderer she had identified as a teen gets out of prison. He had sworn to kill her. All the killer has to do is find her.
Annalise's new life of twenty years is shattered when her witness protection handler arrives to tell her the bad news. Her life is in danger – again. Her family's lives are threatened too. What can she possibly do? How can she possibly tell her family who she really is? Should she run away and leave her family? Should she stay and endanger those she loves?
Susan May Warren has done it again. This is a great novel. The action is tight and continuous, right to the very end. The character development is amazing. I've just never thought about all of the ramifications of witness protection. Do you reveal who who really are before you are engaged? How do you protect your own identity yet form a new life? Warren has done an excellent job of addressing all of these issues.
The themes presented through the novel are thought provoking. When is it right (if ever) to keep the truth from those you love? This theme is presented on several levels, from not telling someone you have cancer to the ultimate secret of new identity. And then how do you respond when you find out the person you have loved for twenty years is someone else?
I received an egalley of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

Susan May Warren in her new book “You Don’t Know Me” Book Six in the Deep Haven series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us to the turbulent Roaring Twenties.
From the back cover: The secret she’s kept to protect her family could be the very thing that tears them apart.
To all who know her, Annalise Decker is a model wife and mother. She’s a permanent member of the PTA, never misses a sporting event, and is constantly campaigning for her husband’s mayoral race.
No one knows that Annalise was once Deidre O’Reilly, a troubled young woman whose testimony put a dangerous criminal behind bars. Relocated through the Witness Security Program to the quaint harbor town of Deep Haven, Deidre received a new identity and a fresh start, which began when she fell in love with local real estate agent Nathan Decker.
Twenty years later, Annalise couldn’t be more unprepared for her past to find her. When Agent Frank Harrison arrives with news that the man she testified against is out on parole and bent on revenge, Annalise must face the consequences of her secrets. Will she run again, or will she find the courage to trust those she loves most with both her past and her future?
I am sorry to report that I have not read the previous Deep Haven novels from Susan May Warren. This is an oversight that I will soon rectify. I like this town. Ms. Warren does such a good job with the town and its inhabitants that you want to go there and live with them despite that the winters there are brutal. Annalise is the perfect heroine, she has a secret identity that has suddenly come back and threaten her as well as her unsuspecting family. ”You Don’t Know Me” is a marriage romance as Annalise is both wife and mother. No affair, no new romance they are in it for the long haul and this is what makes the book all the more captivating. Add tho the mix that it is a thriller and you now have a book that will keep you reading late into the night. This book is a story about secrets, all kinds of secrets and what they will do to a person and a family when, eventually, they are found out. ”You Don’t Know Me” is an emotional ride that will wring you out and then fill you with renewal. God tells us that all things work together for the good and that, in His time, He makes all things beautiful. Want to really know how He does it? Susan May Warren shows us the how in this exciting story. ”You Don’t Know Me” is a wonderful, sweet story with power and depth that will keep you flipping pages. I recommend this book highly and look forward to a return to Deep Haven.

Annalise has been in the witness security program for 20 years. Twenty years ago she left everything she knew and everyone she loves. For twenty years she has built the picture perfect family. Being the perfect soccer mom with homemade cookies and soon to be mayors wife, Annalise is far from the troubled teen she was. Know one, not even her husband knows that her testimony put a dangerous criminal behind bars. When her agent comes to town, Annalises' haunting past comes back to catch her.
You Don't Know Me is your at the edge of your seat, suspense filled, comedy, and romance novel all in one. Susan May Warren complied a very emotionally drawn plot, that either had you crying or laughing.
The Decker family was so realistic, from the mayoral campaigns, to the homemade dishes, even the volleyball games, it was a joy to journey with them through this wonderful story. I loved the family feel of the book. Each person adds to the web of deception, and intrigue on the readers part.
Though waiting for the moment of confrontation, you are grieved at all Annalise has gone through in the past 20 years and week. You want everything bad to leave, but at the same time can't wait to fight the bad guys:) If the plot didn't sell you or the characters, then definitely the spiritual lessons. Susan actually had me crying at one point. How she used a sermon to convict/ reveal His love to Annalise was truly beautiful. Throughout the book we see many different forms of deceit and their different consequences. Though Annalises' lie was the main focus, I liked how how the author did not weigh her down and portray her as this big liar. By adding other characters with similar deception situations, created an equally balanced and spiritually building read.

Annalise Decker has a secret. She is in the Witness Protection Program. She left everyone she loved and everything she had ever known when she was 17 years old. Twenty years later, having never told her husband about her former life, her past comes back to haunt her when Agent Frank Harrison comes to town bearing the news of the release of the man she testified against.
Susan May Warren’s characters come to life in “You Don’t Know Me”. I loved how Warren made me feel like Annalise could be my neighbor and my friend. I hate that she had to put Annalise through such horror. I liked how she portrayed Annalise as the perfect soccer mom and wife of a future mayor and then showed us the rough edges of her past thus showing that anyone can change. It wasn’t hard to understand why Annalise hid this huge secret from her husband. I can only imagine how difficult it was not to let something slip every once in a while.
This book brought laughter and tears, joy and fear sometimes all at the same time. It was hard to put down and I was often on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. For 20 years, Annalise had not trusted those closest to her with her past. Can she now expect her family to trust her when they find out? You will find romance, drama, comedy and suspense all wrapped up in a messy bow. This is one great read and well worth your time.

A gripping novel with the struggle of the human condition woven through the story and characters. A home town that draws the reader in and a story I couldn’t help but want to see resolved to a happily ever after. “You Don’t Know Me” is a gripping marvel of strong storytelling and solid characters that beg to have their story told in the way that has put Warren on the Christian fiction map.
I couldn’t put this book down. No, once I met this Decker family, they became my next door neighbors and I wanted to know them better, watch them succeed. Annalise has spent her adult life living a lie and now it’s coming back to haunt the family she adores. How do you reconcile a past that could harm your family and yet never want to part with your heart’s reason to beat?
The story is richly entwined with real-to-life characters. Subplots that contribute vital motivation for me to continue reading. This is definitely one of those stories that pulsed in my throat and wounded my heart when they struggled.
It’s a story that feels…real. I’m never left unchanged after reading a Warren novel. The passion upon the page starts with the story and ends with hope and grace to be found in God’s love.
A marvelous bit of news has become known that another Deep Haven will soon be entertaining readers again and I couldn’t be happier!
This review is my honest opinion. Thanks to the publishers through Litfuse for my ARC to review.
