Wow! This was another great novel from Jerry Jenkins. This novel had me hooked from the very beginning. This novel continues with Drake Boone and his new family. I don't want to give it away but there is an incident that happens within the family that he must try to solve. It really keeps your attention. Jerry Jenkins is a very gifted author and I have never read a book by him that I didn't love! I would definitely recommend this book to everyone out there!

This is book 3 in the Precinct 11 Trilogy. Even though it stands alone well, reading the first 2 books (The Brotherhood and The Betrayal) will enhance the reading of this one. Like the first two, this was a page-turner. I did not understand the why of what happened to Haeley (you have to read to find out), and thought it could have been left out. The tension and suspense builds up and then is tied up a bit too quickly for me. I really like Boone and hope he makes a return appearance. The character's faith is explored but it not too preachy. Overall I enjoyed this book despite a couple of issues I had with it.

Jerry B. Jenkins in his new book “The Breakthrough” Book Three in the Precinct 11 series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us back into the life of Boone Drake and the Chicago Police Department.
From the back cover: After years of turmoil, Boone Drake seems to be back on track. He is the youngest bureau chief in Chicago Police Department history, he heads the city’s Major Case Squad, he has a new family, and his relationship with God has never been better. Still, Boone can’t fight the feeling that something is about to go terribly wrong . . . again.
When disaster strikes, it seems Boone is destined to repeat the past, as tragedy threatens those closest to him. And when his own family’s safety is at stake, Boone is forced to make a difficult choice: stay with his wife, Haeley, who desperately needs him, or pursue a human trafficking ring from the narrow streets, alleys, and hovels of the famed hutong district in Beijing, China, to the ancient city of Tianjin. The stakes have never been higher for Boone as the all-too-personal case grows increasingly dangerous . . . and time is running out.
The action doesn’t stop as Boone Drake travels from Chicago to China dealing with a human trafficking ring. “The Breakthrough” is a page-flipping thriller where not only is his life in danger but the lives of his new family as well. Mr. Jenkins great skill is not only in creating suspenseful plots but in his marvelous characterizations. From Boone all the way down to minor characters they all come to life and we sit on the edge of our seats and we root for them to succeed in the face of what seems like overwhelming odds. “The Breakthrough” is a great read with Mr. Jenkins making us flip the pages as fast as we can because we want to know what happens with Boone and see if he survive and put the bad guys out of business. I do not recommend starting this book late at night because it will cost you sleep as you will not want to put it down. Mr. Jenkins is an excellent writer and knows how to twist your nerve endings as he tightens the suspense. I am looking forward to, hopefully, more books in this series.

Boone Drake is on top of the world. After suffering the loss a few years ago of pretty much everything that mattered in his life -- including his wife and son -- he is enjoying life much more than he ever expected. He has married again, has gained an adopted son, is chief of the Chicago Police Department Major Case Squad, has the car and house of his dreams, and has found his way back to a faith in God that had gone missing after so much tragedy in his life. So why does he have the feeling that his world is about to fall apart again?
And fall apart it does! Boone suffers not one, but two tragedies. He feels a desperate need to stay with his wife Haeley after she suffers a serious accident. But another case hits too close to home and pulls him into a dangerous situation in a far away location. Boone is not sure if his skills and his faith will be enough to get him through these latest challenges.
In The Breakthrough, the third novel in his Precinct 11 series, Jerry Jenkins continues the stories of Boone and Haeley Drake, Jack Keller, and other characters introduced in The Brotherhood and The Betrayal. As in the previous books, the characters are faced with major crises that test their faith.
I enjoyed The Breakthrough, but it was not my favorite Jerry Jenkins book. Even though the plot is full of suspense and includes many twists and turns that keep you guessing, I felt like it sometimes fell a little flat and some of the elements were resolved too abruptly. All in all, though, it was well worth the time I spent reading it. This book could work well as a stand-alone, but I think it is much better read after the first two in the series.

WOW!!! I have read book 1 and 2 of the Precinct 11 series but this one is by far my favorite!!! This book keeps you on the edge of your seat and you will be sneaking in reading time anytime you can just so you can read this book! I loved it so much, I love all of Precinct 11 books by Jerry Jenkins but this one was truly nail biting. The theme of the book is sad and heartbreaking: Human Trafficking but unfortunately one that is true and is happening in this day in age.
Boone is a man on a mission and nothing will stop him from completing what he has set out to do. Will he succeed? Will he complete what he needs to do?
thank you Jerry Jenkins for creating a wonderful trilogy and thank you tyndale for allowing me to read and review Breakthrough.

The Breakthrough by Jerry Jenkins is a worthy addition to the series that includes The Brotherhood and The Betrayal and features Chicago Police Department officer Boone Drake. Here is a Boone who has now matured spiritually, evidenced in his deft dealing with unbelievable personal and professional challenges. I felt a particular kinship to Boone's investigations into human trafficking through my own ministry involvement with trafficking survivors. There are definitely some intense scenes that leave you with a choice of continuing reading to see what happens or taking a breath! As in his Soon trilogy, Jenkins challenges with anagrams, and as is typical, he shows his understanding and respect for regional and international culture and traditions, only adding to the reader's enjoyment.

Jerry Jenkins is a great writer and develops stories which are suspenseful and entertaining. He hooks you into the story from page one.
The development of characters were believable. He writes so well, I was able to see and feel everything.
Personally, I had difficulty with the main theme of the story, the harsh reality of human trafficking. I had to put the book down a few times because it was causing me anxiety.
The Breakthrough also touches on faith in a real way.
The main character Boone Drake is a Christian. Everything seems to be going well in his life. Until he gets a text out of the blue from his pastor which says, “Yet man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upward.” Job 5:7
Suddenly, everything starts to turn upside down in his life in a major way; from his wife Haeley to her abducted son. Boone is faced with some very difficult situations and decisions to make.
Thankfully, this book has a happy ending.
If you love suspense, I highly recommend this book. The Breakthrough does not disappoint.
In conclusion, I want to thank Tyndale Publishers for an advanced complimentary copy of this book.

Jerry Jenkin’s third “Precinct 11” story, The Breakthrough begins with Boone Drake reflecting on the “success” of his life. Despite a Job-like experience in the past, where he lost his wife, son, home and all he held dear, he’s now at the “top of the pile.” Four years later, he’s married to Haeley and adoptive father to her adorable young son Max, he’s the youngest bureau chief (of the newly formed Major Case Squad) of the Chicago PD, and thanks to a huge legal settlement granted to his wife, he’s living in a nice neighborhood and driving a nice car. He adds to those blessings, a close walk with God, a healthier spiritual life than he’s ever experienced. And Boone wonders when/if testing will come. The testing does come and it looks as if history may be repeating itself, as Haley suffers a serious accident and his son is kidnapped.
The Breakthrough is a fast-paced suspense story that is hard to put down and certainly not predictable. The characters are well defined – a close-knit cop brotherhood, one extremely dumb crook, a personable con man who rarely makes mistakes, and a smart mastermind whom no one would suspect. Add in a sprinkling of average citizens who were drawn into the intrigue, some surprises along the way, and you have a recipe for a great read. Although apparently part of a series, The Breakthrough is excellent as a stand-along novel.
This was fortunately not one of those suspense stories that makes you afraid to turn out the light at night. I enjoyed the way the story builds, at first allowing you to draw conclusions as to what will happen, only to realize that your assumptions will be challenged. The totally stupid actions of one crook provide some light relief along the way of what could have been a very heavy story about a difficult topic. And while the wrap at the end was neatly done, a few untied strings possibly allow an opening for a future book? I anticipate reading more in the Precinct 11 series!
I received a free copy of this book from Tyndale House Publishers in exchange for my fair and honest review.

If you like getting lost in a book, this is another book and series that will do that. It is full of suspense, twist and turns, real life emotions that pull at your heart. This book made me feel like this was or could be playing out in real life, not some far fetched plot that all or parts of it just couldn't happen in real life. Weaving in how some of the characters went to the Lord for help, or how others were learning about a faith in Christ, etc. was great. Love reading Jerry's books.

Boone Drake, once again facing unfathomable suffering from a complex series of events, proves himself to be a faithful hero in this third book in the Precinct 11 series by Jerry Jenkins. Drake is seemingly content and resting in the goodness of God's provision while at the same time feeling like there is a new storm brewing just over the horizon. His calm is once again shattered in a moment. His new wife becomes deathly ill, unconscious and determined to be pregnant while another disaster is happening over at the sitter's home. Their son, Max, is being stolen away by those who deal in finding children fitting a desired profile for wealthy clients.
Human trafficking is a tough subject to address in a fiction book. It has only been in the last ten years or so that the subject has received wide attention in the media. Just as Boone Drake has shown courage in his rescue of his son, Max, in The Breakthrough, so Jerry Jenkins has shown courage in bringing this facet of human trafficking to light. The story is thoroughly engaging and down to earth. Before reading this novel I was totally unaware of the high priced "elite" trafficking portrayed. It was an eyeopener. Mr. Jenkins must have done thorough research to do justice for portrayal of the characters with evil intent and the schemes and settings in which they operate. Deception is clearly the vehicle that enables the initial success of the kidnapping scheme.
My husband and I have been reading this book together as we commute from work. We are about three quarters of the way into it. To add a male perspective to this review, my husband who is an avid reader of secular suspence novels finds The Breakthrough to have quite an interesting plot.
For those who do not typically read "Christian" fiction, you will find an intriguing plot and characters who are like real people you might meet in your neighborhood or at work. This book is a wake-up call for parents and other authority figures in childrens' lives to be diligent in awareness of the people who have access to them.
A complimentary Advance Reader Copy of this book was provided by Tyndale House Publishers and the author. I was not in any way persuaded to give a favorable opinion.

If you’re looking for a police novel filled with the typical high speed chases and gun shots around every corner, don’t buy this book. If, however, you are looking for a good read with moments of danger and suspense, characters you can relate to and God’s hand at work in every moment of their lives, then this is one you have to read.
You will be pulled into Boone Drake’s world from the first chapter when he senses something dark threatening to disrupt his world and the peace he was finally experiencing with his new family. Drake’s sense of dread proves accurate as he faces double-tragedy when his wife and son are plunged into separate perils, forcing Drake to choose between standing vigil beside his wife and racing across the world to save his new son, Max. As the minutes tick by and saving Max becomes more and more difficult, Drake must again cling to God and His divine mercy to carry him through.
God doesn’t disappoint and neither does Jerry! Definitely a novel to put on your reading list!

Boone Drake, Chicago’s Major Case Squad Bureau Chief, finds himself in the middle of his own major case, not just directing the work of others. Emotionally torn between diverse family responsibilities, Boon must steel himself to be the most logical, efficient, and stoical investigator possible. His future family life depends on his success.
Jerry B. Jenkins has built a cast of contrasting characters. Boone’s loyal friends selflessly spend their time and efforts helping him, while greedy and conniving evil-doers selfishly amass their own fortunes at the expense of others. Jasper Pitts’s stellar reputation doesn’t match the reality of his actual business. Naïve citizens are hoodwinked by congenial but devious strangers. Men of faith question God in their dire circumstances, while a skeptic finds reason and courage to pray. Boone travels from his comfortable Chicago home to a tiny apartment in Tianjin, China where he can rely only on God and a cohort who speaks “interesting” English. Boone leaves the comforts of his brotherhood of supportive policemen to battle the evils of human trafficking.
Jenkins’s expert craftsmanship drew me right into this fast-paced story, and I avidly devoured chapter after chapter of The Breakthrough, my hair standing on end in some parts and my chest heaving sighs of relief in others. Once again I am thrilled with another crime story with Christians serving God, by Jerry B. Jenkins.
