Scot McKnight is an American New Testament scholar, historian of early Christianity, theologian, speaker, author and blogger who has written widely on the historical Jesus, early Christianity, the emerging church and missional church movements, spiritual formation and Christian living. He is currently the Karl A. Olsson Professor in Religious Studies at North Park University.

Among my favorite books he has written, The King Jesus Gospel, The Blue Parakeet, and The Jesus Creed to name a few.

His most recent book; One Life, Jesus Calls, We Follow is a Christian primer that seeks to answer the question; What is the 'Christian life' all about?

Is it studying the Bible, attending church, cultivating a prayer life, or witnessing to others? I mean, those are all good, but is that really what Jesus has in mind?

McKnight would argue that the Christian life boils down to two words; 'Follow me.' But McKnight doesn't just stop there, he takes Jesus' great command and applies it to all manner of life, it could be your job, your ministry, your family, social justice and even your sex life. I mean, we all "think" we know what it means to follow Jesus, but more importantly... what did Jesus think it meant?

Bear in mind that this book is a primer, an over view if you will and I would argue that Scott's target audience is perhaps his students that he sees each day. The book reads like something you would hear in a college bible study. But don't mistake that for being a simple or easy read — Scott is still a professor and he writes like one, but if you have a few of these "what is the Christian life all about" books already — you might find this to be similar.

However, if you don't own those types of books, or you are looking for one — I would argue that this is one of the best. Well worth the read. Read this book to discover what it means to embrace the vision of God's Kingdom in a way that awakens your passions and shapes your entire life.

Thank you to Zondervan for providing me with a review copy and allowing me to share my thoughts.

This book is refreshing in its perspective of the Kingdom of God. It helps us balance our Christian life from an individualistic perspective to a more societal and community-based one. But we must not swing to that other end so much so that we diminish the personal part of faith before God. That is also a valid aspect of our faith. But certainly a good read!
