teaches students the meanings of Latin and Greek prefixes, roots, and suffixes commonly used in English. Students who learn to use these word elements will dramatically improve their spelling and their ability to decode unfamiliar words, adding hundreds of words to their usable vocabulary. This richer vocabulary, in turn, gives greater depth to students' thinking and writing.
For each lesson students:
- learn the meanings of prefixes, roots, and suffixes
- divide or assemble known and unknown compound words based on their elements
- match word parts or whole words to their definitions by analyzing their meanings
- apply their new vocabulary in sentences
Includes a Pretest/Post-test, answers, and a dictionary of words derived from Latin/Greek roots. Grades 7-12.
