Loved this book from cover to cover, but this volume is only half (or less?) of the book. It ended abruptly with no resolution to the themes. Usually when there are books in a series, each is somewhat stand alone, with subsequent volumes building on the theme from the first book. This one just stops in the middle of the story. Had I know this I would have looked to purchase the following volume(s) or not purchased at all.

It was difficult to put this exciting book down but I was so disappointed as I got to the end that I was not going to find any answers to the intertwined mysteries. Now I must spend more $ to get the 2nd book. I must read it to find some answers to the first and it sounds like people are looking for a third to find answers from the 2nd. I know this may sound confusing but I didn't know that I could have purchased both Farraday Road and Swopes Ridge and saved $ on postage also.

5 down to 4 stars because of cursing. I agree with Sarah (Louisville?) that is a sorry detractor to a great story. Mr. Collins wrote STICKS AND STONES a book on what words can do, etc. He is also an excellent wordsmith. So why resort to objectionable language. Or is this a case of the publisher's editor making the decision to include? I had found Swope's Ridge and picked up Farraday Road at the same time. So I did not get left hanging with 'to be continued'. Good thing! That does drive me crazy when I have to wait months or more to get "the rest of the story". Good read!

Don't judge a book by it's cover. I started this book and got sidetracked and never picked it back up until I read Swope's Ridge. I had a faint memory of reading about the character Lije Evans before. When I finished Swope's Ridge I dug through my book pile and saw Farraday Road had a marker at chapter thirteen. To me the cover looks like a story about drowning. This is not the case at all. In my opinion Zondervan did a better job with the cover of Swope's Ridge.I opened the book Farraday Road at page one and started over. Was I ever glad I did. Great story. I am eager to read the next in the series. The one after Swope's Ridge. I recommend both books that are out.

I received a copy of Farraday Road to review from Zondervan and it sat in my to-read pile for quite a while. When I finally started reading it I couldn't put it down! I read until one in the morning, way past my usual bedtime. I found the main characters to be believable and the plot was full of unexpected twists and turns. And I should mention, if you read this book, you will definitely HAVE to read the sequel.Though the book is published by Zondervan, with the exception of the notable absence of profanity and immoral behavior (on the part of the "good guys" anyway), there is little about Farraday Road that would mark it as a Christian book. That could be either a positive or a negative depending on your perspective. I enjoy reading some Christian fiction, but I do not like books that seem to have had the Christian aspect added as an after-thought. I also do not like fiction books to be preachy. I want to think about what message the author is trying to convey. Ace Collins neither preaches, nor tacks on Christianity, which I definitely appreciate.

As an avid reader off Christian fiction, this book caught my attenton from the very first page. The characters are well developed, the plot keeps you on the edge of your seat, and the last sentence on the last page...I'm really looking forward to the sequel!

I brought this book because of the author Ace Collins who is best known for his non-fiction books Stories Behind the Best-Loved Songs of Christmas, Stories Behind the Great traditions of Christmas etc. He has been around for a long time and has written many books Ive enjoyed. I was curious to see what Ace had up his sleeves in reference to fiction writing. Wow! I was pleasantly surprised, but then again I wasnt. What else would you expect from such a gifted writer?Ace starts out this book like the TV show Murder She Wrote. The murder happens in the first chapter or two. I didnt know where he would go from there. Was it going to be gruesome or not? Im happy to report not!! Ace takes his time for you to get to know the town and its history, the victims, their lives, hopes and dreams. He does a great job of walking you down a path where clues are uncovered to only find out more questions come to mind because of something recently discovered. The mystery is far more than anyone of the characters or the reader could imagine.This book is also a little like National Treasure the movie in the fact that there is a bit of history to be learned in the middle of all the action, mystery, and adventure. Ace is very creative and clever in the way he lets the story unfold. You discover all the clues along with the characters in the book. If you are looking for all things to be tied up in a bow at the end of this story you wont find it here. Good news for you is Ace Collinss new book, Swopes Ridge, the sequel to this one, is out in book stores right now.This is definitely a- who-done-it taken to a whole new level. I enjoyed Lije a local attorney whose wife is murdered. He has a whole new lease on life and will stop at nothing to solve his wifes murder. Great read. The book was even far better than it sounded. A lot of suspense & mystery, likable characters. It does leave you hanging at the end, but will continue in the next book.

Ace Collins has entered the world of fiction with style. His debut novel, Farraday Road, introduces us to Lije Evans and a cast of characters that are hard to forget. The story begins with Lije, a small town attorney, found shot on a dead-end road and his wife dead not far from him. Lije is offered little chance to grieve as his junior law partner is accused of the crime and the Arkansas Bureau of Investigation shows up intent on proving her guilt.Farraday Road is a classic southern mystery. Lije lives in the biggest house in town and is wealthy from inherited old money. His murdered wife is loved by all and remembered as a great benefactor of charity. Each chapter of the book finds Lije drawn deeper and deeper into something that is far bigger than anything little Salem, Arkansas has ever experienced. But dont be fooled; this is not a little story. The more Lije seeks to answer why someone would kill his wife the bigger the story gets. Everything from old Indian legends to the James Gang to German SS espionage blend together to make for a story with plenty of plot twists and surprises.This is a story with rich characters and a mystery with incredible implications. I know its overused, but this is the kind of book that really is hard to put down. The story flows so seamlessly it is easy to get lost in its magic. The prose and plot are powerful reminding me of Athol Dicksons first novels (Gar Reed Mysteries). The spiritual themes of the book are presented in the natural conversations of the characters and the setting of the Deep South. A word of warning though; Farraday Road ends with the words, to be continued. The mystery will not be resolved until Collins sequel, Swopes Ridge, is released in October 2009. The good news is I have already read Swopes Ridge and the story gets even bigger and the mystery is solved with final resolution.

All of the earlier reviews failed to mention that there is cussing in this book. Did no one else notice? I began reading christian fiction in order to avoid foul language. I was shocked and extremely disappointed. The mystery was pretty good, although there were so many layers it was hard to keep it all straight. And nothing was resolved in the end. I honestly didn't like it.

Enjoyed reading this suspense/mystery with a great plot. Had a Southern feel, in overuse of prepositions, but the story flows with surprises that leaves readers waiting expectantly for the next installment.

It's a fast moving story.The book held my interest with suspense filled scenes,unusual twists,and some far fetched scenes.The letdown is a "to be continued" on the final page.Surely in 352 pages we could have an end to the story.

The excitement of the first page continues all through the book. The twists and turns keep you interested and wondering what will happen next. One of the best suspense novels I have read in a long time. I was hooked from the beginning.
