Before you pick up this book, I should warn you: if your daughter is not already a tween, you might want to hold off on reading this until she is. It is so heartbreaking to read in advance what our sweet little cutie pies will be facing one day. Maybe just enjoy the cute and fun years until their very end, before preparing for what lies ahead.

That being said, since our daughters will inevitably one day be tweens, this is a most helpful book to get us, and them, through those trying times. Not just another research laden, hypothetical look at tween girls, in What Happened to My Little Girl? A Dad's Ultimate Guide to His Tween Daughter, Christian parents Jim Rue and wife Nancy (of the popular Faithgirlz! series) offer a plan for "helping your daughter live as a strong, smart, faith-filled child rather than a mini-teenager."

What Happened? is laid out in a user-friendly guidebook set-up, with a consistent format across chapters. As various issues are addressed, you can expect each chapter to have the same helpful breakdown, including sections called "What Just Happened?" (a dad- daughter scenario you can relate to), "Here's the Deal" (sheds some light on the effect Dad can have), "Where Do I Come In?" (options for putting all the information into practice), and sidebar comments called "Out of the Mouths of Mini Women" where real tween girls talk about Dad stuff.

While the format is conducive to a good flow and an easy read, it's the information that makes this book a must-have! As a mom reading it, not only did I gain good insight into my daughter's future self, but I had a few ah-ha moments about my own childhood, and even a few marriage epiphanies. Dads who take this journey into tween girls' issues of appearance, body and mood changes, girl politics, and authenticity, are all but guaranteed to better understand and relate to their tween girls, and even their wives. Everybody wins!

I am not yet a father, but someday while I am married I would like to become one. In the past, my fiance and I have baby-sat children of various ages including a couple of tween girls. Like Nancy and Jim Rue, I feel it's very important for a man to know who their kids are and how to handle them properly without being a jerk or folding under pressure. This is a nonfiction book specifically written for Dads, both single and married, who have tween daughters. Although this was written by a Christian couple, the knowledge within this book ought to be applied by all fathers.

What Happened to My Little Girl? is a guidebook meant for educating Dads on a girl's tween phase which is between the ages of 8-12 years old; some might prefer the term 'preteen'. One good thing to note: never do Mr. and Mrs. Rue suggest there is such a thing as a perfect Dad nor do they suggest their book will perfectly lay out everything about all the little women out there. What Happened to My Little Girl? teaches fathers about what their daughters are going through, a bit of their psychology, things Dads should avoid saying, it also provides quotes from "little women", and talks about how dangerous the world is for them today. For the most part, I really enjoyed this book. It was educational, humorous, and I felt sad while reading some of the quotes from the "little women" I had no idea there were so many workaholic Dads out there... I only had two complaints for this book. 1) The Rues barely provided scripture and when they did it was always in the MSG (the message) translation; I'm just not a fan of that particular translation but I'm not a KJO person. 2) They feel spanking is never appropriate, but I feel it is fine under extreme circumstances; but again this is a personal opinion. Despite those two minor objections, I feel this is a great book for Christians and unbelievers alike!
