ruthhill74Yelm, WAAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Emotionally Involving MysteryDecember 22, 2013ruthhill74Yelm, WAAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Inescapable, Road to Kingdom Series #1.All I can say is, "This is my kind of book in the extreme!" This book has it all: romance, mystery, humor, and a strong Christian message. The characters are extremely well-developed, and every aspect of the story makes perfect sense. I honestly don't think I have a negative thing to say about this book or author.
The Christian message is very strong in this book, and it is woven so expertly into the fabric of the story. This book touched my heart as I read about how God restored everything in Lizzie's life (no spoilers--you have to read it yourself), and my faith is God was strengthened. I do not often find myself in tears as I get to the end of a book, but this one certainly did.
The romance in the book was not "put-on"; it was real. Charity was the sweetest little girl in the world, and her faith was absolutely precious. When Lizzie had to make a choice, I was not sure what choice she would make, and I am so glad she made the right one.
The mystery in this book was absolutely perfect. It took me a while to figure everything out, and I often found myself continuing to the next chapter when I should have been doing something else. I had to know what the outcome was.
I was so happy to discover that there will be a sequel to this book. I definitely want to read "the next chapter." These are some of the most delightful characters I have "met" in a while, and I could read several more volumes about them. I recommend this book highly to anyone who likes inspirational romances.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine. -
CindiPennsylvaniaAge: 45-54Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Suspense filled romanceJuly 20, 2013CindiPennsylvaniaAge: 45-54Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Inescapable, Road to Kingdom Series #1.This is the first book in the Road to Kingdom series.
Lizzie Engel was born and raised as a Mennonite in the town of Kingdom, Kansas. She left her faith and hometown at the age of 18 because of her father's reaction to her giving birth out of wedlock.
5 years later Lizzie is in a bad situation where she loses her job and finds out that someone is stalking her. She decides to return to Kingdom hoping to find safety for her and her daughter.
Can Lizzie start over? Will her family take her back? Can she escape her stalker?
This is the first book that I've read by Nancy Mehl. I am so happy to have found her work. Nancy has a gift for story telling that grips you from the beginning of the book until the very last page. It normally takes me 3-4 days to read a novel, but I just couldn't put this one down. I finished it in two days!!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Amish fiction. -
BrendaWVAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5July 12, 2012BrendaWVAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Inescapable, Road to Kingdom Series #1.Elizabeth (Lizzie ) Engel grew up in a tiny town of less than three hundred called Kingdom. Her home life was less than ideal, her father was an elder in the Mennonite Church, who was very strict and often cruel, and her mother was to afraid to stand up to him. So starved for attention Lizzie falls for the first man who tells her he loves her, and it resulted in a pregnancy. She felt like she became an outcast in the town, and knew the only thing to do was to take her daughter Charity and leave. She settled in Kansas City where a kind woman gave her a job working at Harmony House, and while money was tight she had hope for the future. When a man starts watching her and sending her threatening notes she starts to worry, and when she loses her job at Harmony House she realizes that the only way to keep her daughter safe is to return to the tiny town of Kingdom. Will she find acceptance and safety in her hometown? Will the man who is bothering her leave her alone or follow her to Kingdom?
There were so many elements to this story that held my attention. There was the suspense and mystery of who was sending Lizzie notes, and following her, there was the issues that Lizzie faced because she was a struggling single parent, and there were issues between Lizzie and her parents as well as problems with the town of Kingdom itself. For me though what really made this story stand out was the character of Lizzie and the choices she made, in essence going full circle. She was such a brave, courageous young woman, who left home to take care of her daughter, but ultimately had to return in order to take care of and protect her, which allowed her to realize that she might not have left God behind after all. Her daughter Charity was such a wonderful character, and really added to the overall story. The questions she had about her father seemed very normal, and made her character seem very realistic.. I found myself anxious to learn a bit about Kingdom, a Mennonite town, and enjoyed learning about the residents as well as the town itself.
Overall, a story where the author provides a real page turner of a story, with plenty of plot twists kept me guessing right up until the very end. Romance suspense, and a bit of mystery woven together with a positive christian message made this a great read. I am looking forward to the next book in the series titled"Unbreakable" which is due out in the spring of 2013.

MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Old Mennonite CommunityJuly 12, 2012MaureenTSyracuse NYGender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for Inescapable, Road to Kingdom Series #1.A great view of Old Order Mennonite life...Kingdom KS. We follow the life of Elizabeth Lynn Engel, or Lizzie as she is known, and her delightful 6 year old Charity.
Lizzie has vowed never to return to Kingdom, but circumstance force her to do so. She is welcomed with open warm arms...by most everyone. Her Dad being one of the people who still doesn't want her around.
I found most of the character's here to be so very loving and living a Righteous Life. You find God speaking to them, and I found myself wanting to live and visit with them.
There is a lot that goes on in the story...stalking, embezzlement, threatening letters, murder, and when you think you have it all figured out, you don't. Loved how the story wrapped up! A really great and wonderful read!! Don't Miss!
I received this book Litfuse and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review -
