Oxford University Press The NRSV Notetaker's Bible

The extra wide margins of the NRSV Notetaker's Bible allows you plenty of room to make your own notes - whether scholarly notations or spiritual insights - rather than rely on the words of others.

The NRSV Notetaker's Bible gives you an extra-wide, two-inch outside margin. And because the text is a single column, your notes are always right beside the relevant passage. Moreover, we've added rules to make it even easier to keep on track. For more expansive thoughts, you can turn to the back of the Bible for additional ruled pages.

This is the only available wide-margin Bible to feature the highly-regarded New Revised Standard Version translation, the preferred translation in most academic settings, as well as many churches and homes. So whether you're a student or professor, pastor or lay person, the NRSV Notetaker's Bible will fit your Bible study needs. Its open margins are a perfect match for your open mind.

  • 2-inch wide ruled margin for personal notes
  • Single-column text
  • Sturdy Bible paper resists tearing and bleed-through
  • New Revised Standard Version with Apocrypha
  • 6.5" x 8.25" x 2"

Print and lined margins are smaller than I could use. I viewed the pdf sample you need to set it at 100% size and page scaling "none" in order to see a realistic view of the font size you will be receiving. I estimate the font size somewhere between 8.5 and 8. The lined notes area is also scaled to handle writing at about an 8.5 font. This bible would be good for some, but just didn't work for me. I ended up not getting a bible where I could take notes and going for a large font bible. This bible had two small defects, slight damage to clear coating on cover and one page had a folded down corner and some tearing on the very edge. Neither slight defect was enough to return the book. Since book was packaged very well, both defects were by the manufacturer. This bible was printed in Korea.

Because I love to write down comments and ask questions as I'm studying Scripture, this Bible is almost perfect for me. The lines provided in the margins make it easy to take notes, a benefit that spatially challenged people like me should particularly appreciate. I also like the single-column text format. Another "journaling" Bible is double-columned, which does not seem to make a lot of sense because you want to be making notes about a particular reference, and when you're working against two columns it isn't clear what text you're referencing. My only complaint would be that the text font is a bit small. But for me, the NRSV is the best for a more literal translation, and this has proved to be a great study Bible for me.
