Kidner is a top-notch scholar and gifted writer. He writes from a conservative perspective. If anyone is seeking a brief, reliable, and accessible guide to the message of Hosea, this is it. As is typical for this series, the commentary is very brief. It only deals with the main message(s) of each passage. For other details, a larger, more comprehensive commentary should be sought. However, this book meets it's stated threefold purpose: "to expound the text with accuracy, to relate it to contemporary life, and to be readable."

I am currently using this commentary as I prepare to teach a Bible class on Hosea. It has a good balance between some technical knowledge of the text and heartfelt application for us today. This commentary is a good, useful tool!
