I grew up near Amana, and enjoyed reading this historical fiction set in such a familiar place. The author truly captured the joys, struggles, and eccentricities involved in the Amana Colony experience, with just a couple minor editorial slips. The experiences of German-Americans during WWI, depicted in the third book in this series, truly brought the homefront challenges to life for me, and now has me asking questions about how my grandparents fared during those turbulent times. Excellent way to bring to life a bygone era, yet a familiar little cluster of villages in that special place we know as "the Amanas."
