Revell Christmas Roses - eBook

Celia Anderson doesn't need anything for Christmas except a few more boarders, which are hard to come by in this small mining town. She certainly doesn't have a husband on her Christmas wish list. But when a wandering carpenter finds lodging at her boarding house, she admits that she might remarry if she found the right man--the kind of man who would bring her roses for Christmas. It would take a miracle to get roses during a harsh Wyoming winter. But Christmas, after all, is the time for miracles . . .

Christmas Roses by Amanda Cabot is the loveliest story I've read in a very long time. Even though it's a Christmas novella, it's just a plain good book to read any time of the year. I read it in January and it was just the cure I needed for those post-holiday blues. I was amazed at how beautifully this story developed in just 169 pages. The characters were endearing, the story compelling, and the historical setting was well researched. I loved everything about it!

I love Christmas romance stories, but it takes a very special story to make me want to give it as a gift to friends and family. Amanda Cabot is one of those authors who makes the characters in her books feel as alive as your neighbor next door. The small mining town in 1882 Wyoming Territory is the perfect place for Mark, an itinerant carpenter and widow Celia Anderson to meet and fall in love. Mark may seem too good to be true, but he's the spittin' image of my husband. Mark's anticipation of Celia's needs, his forward thinking to what would please her and enchant her daughter, are not a fairy tale. There are men in the world like that. You'll be delighted with the recipe for Swedish Pound Cake. We all expect a Christmas miracle, one that we can tuck in our hearts for the year ahead, even if it happens for someone else. About the time you think that there can't be another successful variation on a Christmas romance theme, Ms. Cabot slips in a delightful twist. You'll walk away with your own bouquet of Christmas Roses when Celia whispers, "Mama was right, Christmas is the season of miracles."

Christmas Roses is a wonderfully charming story that will bring tears to your eyes and make you smile. Celia's young daughter needs a father--but Celia isn't sure she wants to marry again. Mark is a man on a mission. He agrees to work on Celia's boardinghouse in exchange for room and board, but he won't be in town for long--unless he finds the person he's been seeking for over two years. The lives of these two needy people intertwine, but will Mark's mission send him away, just when Celia decides she wants him to stay?
You'll love this engaging story and want to make reading Christmas Roses an annual event.

Celia and her 6 month old daughter Emma live in the Wyoming territory in 1882. Celia has been widowed for over a year now and the bachelors are vying for her hand. Her arranged marriage to Josef was pleasant enough, but not the kind of love Celia longs for. She wants a soul mate, someone to bring her roses at Christmas.
Carpenter Mark is traveling through the town on his search for his father who abandoned him when he was young. His trail grows cold and Mark is uncertain what he will do next. He boards at Celia's boarding house and works for the towns folks making Christmas gifts for their loved ones.
Celia is an independant, beautiful, and dedicated woman. She has a sharp mind and a love for serving others. She is the type of character that can survive the toughness of this mine town, but she would be even more if she could find the love she dreams of.
This is a beautiful Christmas story. God as our heavenly Father can restore lost time, mend broken hearts, and lead us all to forgiveness.

I’ve enjoyed reading 3-4 of Amanda Cabot’s books. Probably because most of her books hold a redemptive grace story, lined with the need for forgiveness. This one stirred my emotions (nothing new there!) and I loved the rose aspect of it. Thanks to my husband roses are my favorite flower.
Set in 1882, Christmas Roses is a pleasant story and one I’d read again at Christmas time, just for the mushy story. Every now and then I get in the mood for one of these and this weekend was one of those times.
While the romantic part of the story line was predictable, it’s an endearing Christmas story sharing the joys of redemptive grace, healing, forgiveness and love. Something we all need to be reminded of from time to time.
I liked how gifts of service were emphasized in the story because I think it is a way we can show our spouses or love interest we love them, but not every couple will be the same so there needs to be a balance, as well as discovering what our loved one appreciates the most.
As a side note, I was short on time and asked my daughter to read this book first (I ended up reading it at the last minute and then found out it wasn’t due until the end of the week…it’s done early for a change!) and while she liked it she isn’t crazy for mushy romance novels. She agreed that Christmas Roses was predictable and she knew who was going to end up with who.
A thumbs up from me!

Christmas Roses
By Amanda Cabot
After her husband's death Celia Anderson opened a boarding house. Times are hard and Celia needs more boarders so that she can support herself and her infant daughter Emma.
When Mark Williams comes in search of a a room he is an answer to Celia's prayers. Mark is in Easton on a two year search for his long absent father. The fact that he knows how to help Emma when she becomes ill while Doc was away seems even more miraculous!

Her first marriage was arranged by her parents and she longs for something more. She wants a man to give her Christmas roses, a near impossible feat in 1882 Wyoming Territory. But this is what her heart longs for and someone who loves Emma as if she could be his own.
Mark has been searching for the father that his mother told him died years ago, but after his mother's death Mark found letters from his father to his mother that showed that his father stilled lived. Mark needs to know why his father left them all those years ago.
Celia touches Mark's heart and he is convinced if he was the type to marry he'd be partial to a lady like Celia. But Mark knows that Celia wants a father for Emma, and if there is one thing that Mark knows it's that he could never be a father. How could he be a father when he never knew his?
As Mark searches for evidence that his father was ever in the area he helps Celia out by do little chores around the home and starting a small carpentry business. But when Mark's search comes to an abrupt halt, can he find a reason to finally put down roots or will his past keep him forever on the move?
Though she has the beginning of feelings for Mark, Celia knows that she needs to find a father for Emma when she hears the hurt that his lack still causes him. But can she find a man that loves both her and Emma or will she have to settle for a marriage that is more business than feeling? Will Celia ever receive her heart's desire, will she ever receive Christmas Roses?
Christmas Roses is a story of two people searching for what is missing in their lives. This a delightful, sweet story that will warm your heart.

Celia wants roses for Christmas. In the dead of winter. In Wyoming. In a small town with a population of 150. In 1882.
That would be the only way she knows a man really loves her for herself instead of just needing a cook or someone to mother his children.
Mark, a traveling carpenter wants his own miracle. He’s trying to track down his runaway father.
Life is not the same after they meet, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that all of life’s wishes will come true.
But don’t rule out anything at Christmas.

Christmas Roses - 3.5 stars

Date:November 24, 2012
Christmas Roses by Amanda Cabot is a sweet Christmas novella that is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit! Celia is trying to build a life for her and her infant daughter after her husband's death. She has no intention of marrying again . . . until Mark arrives in town searching for his father. When he saves the life of her daughter, she offers him a room in her boarding house and their friendship develops from there.
Novellas are a little hit or miss for me because it's so hard to squeeze a full story into so few pages. However, Cabot does a great job of telling a complete story, finishing strong, and developing characters that I enjoyed reading about! I definitely recommend Christmas Roses for anyone looking to read a wonderful Christmas story to start this season off right! [3.5 stars]

Amanda Cabot in her new book, “Christmas Roses” published by Revell takes us into the life of Celia Anderson.
From the Back Cover: Celia Anderson doesn’t have a husband on her Christmas wish list. But when a traveling carpenter finds lodging at her boardinghouse, she admits that she might remarry if she found the right man–the kind of man who would bring her roses for Christmas. It would take a miracle, though, to find roses during a harsh Wyoming winter.
But Christmas, after all, is the time for miracles . . .
Celia Anderson is a widow with a young daughter but she is holding out against marriage as she wants a man who wants her for her not what she can provide. And the way she would know when she finds the right man if when he gives her roses in winter. Impossible! Roses just do not bloom in winter. So Celia feels she will never remarry. Ah but our God is the God of the impossible and Christmas is the time of miracles. The fun of “Christmas Roses” is watching how the impossible becomes possible. The romance is sweet and it is Christmas. You expect a heartwarming romantic tale and that is exactly what Ms. Cabot provides. “Christmas Roses” is a lot of fun and very enjoyable.

Mark has spent the last two years of his life in search of the father that he never knew, until he find himself in a small Wyoming town, called Easton.
Ceilia is a widow, with a young daughter who hires Mark to do some odd jobs, at the boarding house that she runs.
Will Mark ever find the family that he is looking for?
Christmas Roses is a satisfying Christmas read, engaging with wonderfully wrought characters. I loved the many characters and how well they were developed, the fullness of the characters really brought the tight knit community to life.
I fell in love with the characters in this story. Mark was such a caring hero, who did his very best to make others' lives better. And there was such a sweetness to the story as well.
Christmas Roses is quite possibly the best Christmas novella I have ever read! I loved the Wyoming setting, and how Ms. Cabot incorporated humor that kept me smiling. Ceilia was a wonderful heroine who really had her head on straight and knew how to find good qualities in a man. All in all, an excellent Christmas tale, that I would happily recommend!

Christmas Roses - what a nice thought and what a great title for a book. Amanda Cabot has written a book as delightful as its title. The story is not about Christmas as you might expect, but it is the story of a young man, angry and hurt by the desertion of his father, and a young widow with a small baby who is struggling to make ends meet by running a boarding house.
Celia needs to learn to love again, and to accept the help she desperately needs to repair her boarding house. Mark needs to find his father, and learn to forgive both his father and God. What Celia doesn't need is two other batchlors who enjoy her cooking and each would like to make her his permanent cook. What Mark doesn't need is to be tied down with a family and not to be able to search for his father.
But God has a better plan for both! How ever can these two young people find what they really need, and forgive their past? Christmas Roses is the answer, but to find their heart's desire, each will have to give up what they think that they want.
Amanda Cabot is a new author for me, but I will be looking for more of her books, like Christmas Roses.

This is one sweet, short book. Once I started I didn't put it down until I finished.
Amanda Cabot has written a good reminder of what Christmas is. Loved how the Reverend references Joseph. Makes you think, and sure made Mark think.
This is the story of forgiveness and finding peace. It is also a really sweet love story. Loved the interactions with the sweet Baby Emma.
As we travel this journey you have to wonder where anyone would find Roses for Christmas. Celia Anderson's is a young widow, she loved her husband, but hers was an arranged marriage. She makes a statement that she would only marry for "love" and she must have Roses for Christmas?
Don't miss this page turning read, and enjoy the messages presented.

I loved it. Read it through in one sitting. So now I will have to read it again, more slowly, and savor it. And since this is a keeper it is only a matter of finding the time to do so.
It does not happen too often, but I found myself talking to some of the people - in the book! Yep, and I also answered myself on a couple of questions!
I don't like roses all that much but the title and the premise of the story intrigued me into buying this book. I thought it might be a good little gift-book. It is. My copy stays and any gift ... I will have to buy again.

With a baby daughter, a boarding house, and suitors she’s not ready for Celia’s life is difficult. But when a carpenter named Mark shows up unexpectedly he changes everything. Amanda Cabot gives us a sweet love story. Celia Anderson, a widow for a year, receives advice from the parson's wife and others that her baby needs a father and she needs a husband. But Celia has no desire or plan to remarry. If she would remarry it would be to a man who gave her roses for Christmas. To find roses at Christmas in the cold of Wyoming was a challenging order. To help her get by financially she turns her home into a boardinghouse but has few boarders. Her new boarder is mighty good looking but is not forthcoming about his anger and hate. Amanda's characters and story are memorable.

I'm not usually one to read novellas. The word count can make it tricky to tell a full story. There was something about the idea of this historical where a widow isn't looking for a husband -- unless there's a man who can find her roses in the middle of a Wyoming winter. Celia Anderson has several suitors, but she's really content providing for her daughter and caring for her boarders. Then a carpenter wanders into town on a mission to find his father. In this man who is sensitive to her needs she sees what being cared for could be. But she wants someone who understands her soul, too.
This is a sweet story. It doesn't take long to read, but felt full and rich -- not easy to do within the limitations of a novella. The setting is real, the characters varied, and the romance just right. If you're one who loves Christmas stories, you must read this one. And if you love a sweet romance, then you'll also enjoy Christmas Roses.

I have read a number of Amanda Cabot's books before and have loved them all. This one is special to my heart and it will be a book that I keep to reread repetitively, for a lot of reasons.
I, like Celia, love roses. And I love Christmas.
Anyway, I knew as soon as I saw the title I wanted to read this book. Roses at Christmastime in 1882? How is that possible? It is and Amanda made me a believer. I'm not going to give it away as I hate spoilers. You'll just have to read it to believe it.

Christmas Roses by Amanda Cabot was my first new Christmas book of the season to read, and I found it to be delightful. Set in Wyoming Territory in 1882 it weaves the tale of Celia Anderson, young widow trying to make ends meet, and raise her infant daughter on her own. She doesn't see a need for a new husband, unless she can find one who will love her and be spontaneous enough to bring her roses in December - not an easy feat when she lives in a cold and snowy land.
Mark Williams has no intention on staying more than a night or two in the sleepy little town of Easton, in Wyoming Territory. In fact, he is only there in hopes of finding his delinquent father. He has been searching for over two years and believes that his search may finally come to an end. Helping the young widow with a sickly infant, and a snowstorm delay his plans to leave.
I found this book to be a quick and enjoyable read, and was disappointed when it was over.
