I'll be honest. A book with the word "miracle" in the title can put me off. Although I believe in God's abilities for miracles, I don't believe in telling God what He is required to do.
I'm glad to say that Linda Evans Shepherd new book, When You Need A Miracle: How to Ask God for the Impossible, (Revell) is reasonable and biblical. She writes, "Miracles are not about praying the perfect prayer; miracles are about what happens when we welcome God's presence and power into our situations and our lives."
She also says, "So if you're facing a dilemma or a circumstance that needs a miracle, I have good news for you. If you allow him, God will use your pain as a key to open the door to himself. And it's in his presence that miracles happen."
Linda shares many personal stories and other people's stories about how God opened the doors to himself through dilemmas and circumstances. Yet, Linda cautions us, "God does not give us a magic wand so we can grant ourselves whatever we desire. If he did, we'd probably worship what we wanted God to do for us instead of worshiping God himself."
Each chapter highlights "factors" of seeing God's plan for miracles:
1. The Trust Factor: We can trust God for whatever his plan is, even when it's not what we wanted or expected.
2. The Love Factor: God is interested in every part of our lives and longs for relationship with us.
3. The Truth Factor: Scripture illuminates truth in a way that we can see God's hand in every situation we are facing.
4. The Forgiveness Factor: Bitterness can be an obstacle to God answering our prayers. Linda shares how to forgive and fight against Satan's attacks.
5. The Praise Factor: Praising God welcomes God's presence and power into our difficulties.
6. The Sold Out Factor: Linda shares four ways to live sold out for God.
7. The Intercession Factor: We can pray for God's will for others and see him work.
In all of Linda's book, there are biblical principles, inspiring stories, Scripture to meditate on, and prayers to pray.
Linda gives this formula for miracles:
An all-powerful God + a grateful, believing heart + God's will = a miracle.

William Barclay said, "When wonder is dead, wonderful things cease to happen." Linda's book will help you create a wonder-working environment in your heart--just right for receiving miracles.

"When You Need a Miracle" is predominantly a book about prayer. Linda Evans Shepherd takes you step by step in learning how to pray and also what hinders prayers from being answered.
She shares from a deep, personal place reflecting on some of her own life experiences. She discusses two incidents when she especially needed a miracle. One had to do with her brother and the other had to do with her daughter.
The chapter which spoke the most to me was Chapter Five, entitled The Forgiveness Factor. This chapter delves into the importance of forgiveness.
My favorite chapter was Chapter 7 entitled, Fighting the Enemy. I learned some very powerful prayers in this chapter which I will continue to implement in my own life.
Overall, there is much to glean and learn from "When You Need a Miracle". I recommend this book to anyone struggling in their life and desire a miracle through answered prayer.
In conclusion, I want to thank Revell for sending me a complimentary copy of this book to read and review.

When I received a copy of Linda’s new book When You Need a Miracle: How to Ask God for the Impossible I didn’t know what to expect, and perhaps you have a few questions too. From the title you might think she will try to give formula prayers you can repeat in order to talk God into getting what you want. That’s not the case. More than anything, Linda gives sound biblical teaching that will draw you into a closer relationship with Christ.
Linda knows from personal experience how tragedy can impact a life and she doesn’t take on this subject lightly. Discouragement, hopelessness, why our prayers aren’t answered the way we desire and how to cope during those times, what it means to ask in faith, the importance of praise, and so much more is within the pages of this book.

I believe all the miracles in the Bible happened. I also believe that miracles still happen today. Just not to me.
This book has changed that. I now believe that miracles can be part of my life.
I was a little late receiving this book, so have not completely finished reading it. As I continue to read through this book, I’ve become a believer.
I know God can and will work miracles in my life.
How exciting is that!
