This is an awesome book. Terri Blackstock never disappoints me when she writes a book. She is one of my favorite writers I have ever read. I look for her books every where. I find myself looking at all the book clubs for who is going to be the first to have her books out so I can order them and dive into reading. Awesome writer, I can not say enough or brag enough about her writing. This book kept you hooked. Kept you turning page after page. You where never board with the book. You where hook in the first chapter.

Terri Blackstock in her new book, "Truth-Stained Lies" Book One in the Moonlighters Series published by Zondervan introduces us to Cathy Cramer and her family.
From the back cover: When truth doesn't make sense, will lies prevail?
Cathy Cramer is a former lawyer and investigative blogger who writes commentary on high-profile homicides. When she finds a threatening note warning her that she's about to experience the same kind of judgment and speculation that she dishes out in her blog, Cathy writes it off as mischief . . . until her brother's wife is murdered and all the `facts' point to him. The killer has staged the crime to make the truth too far-fetched to believe. Working to solve the murder and clear her brother's name, Cathy and her two sisters, Holly and Juliet, moonlight as part-time private investigators. Juliet, a stay-at-home mom of two boys, and Holly, a scattered ne'er-do-well who drives a taxi, put aside their fear to hunt down the real killer.
Stakes rise when their brother's grieving five-year-old son is kidnapped. As police focus on the wrong set of clues, the three sisters and their battered detective friend are the only hope for solving this bizarre crime, saving the child, and freeing their brother.
Who knew being a blogger could be dangerous? Now Cathy Cramer knows. Someone dressed in a clown suit murdered her brother's estranged wife. The police think the brother did it and arrested him as all the evidence seems to point to him. So Cathy and her sisters take up the investigation to prove who really did it and get the brother out of jail. Ms. Blackstock has provided us a first-rate mystery. "Truth-Stained Lies" is a wonderful way to begin a series and don't you just love the title? "Truth-Stained Lies" is a thriller in that the lives of Cathy and her sisters are put in deadly danger through the course of their investigations. I think this is Ms. Blackstocks best work yet and her characters are well-defined. Once the action gets going Ms. Blackstock revs up the thriller quotient considerably which will have you reading and flipping pages as fast as you can. Don't start this book late at night because it will be very difficult to put it down or stop thinking about it. I recommend this book highly and am greatly looking forward to the next book in the series.

When Jay is framed for the murder of his ex-wife by a man dressed like a clown, his sisters, Cathy, Juliet and Hope must work together to find the real murderer. With Jay’s unbelievable story, the police follow the wrong clues leaving the sisters to work as part-time private investigators to solve the crime.
Inevitably, as the sisters get closer to the truth, danger closes in on them. Can they convince the police that they have arrested the wrong man?
As “Truth Stained Lies” opens, we meet Cathy Cramer, a former lawyer turned blogger who writes commentary on high-profile homicide cases. She finds a threatening note on her car. When her former sister-in-law is murdered, her first thought is that the crimes are related. Though the letter is mentioned several times throughout the book, the issue is never resolved. Will there be a follow-up book, or will readers be left hanging? I am a reader who doesn’t like loose ends, so I’m hoping a future book will answer the question of who sent the threatening note to Cathy.
Somewhat predictable, Terri Blackstock tries to throw readers off unsuccessfully. It is relatively easy to solve the murder though the motive is at first ambiguous. Not light reading by any means but definitely a quick read.

A fantastic hook, great writing voice and quick pace through the entire book. I thought the suspense was right up there among a couple of my favorites of the genre.
To be critical, I thought the ending came a bit soon, or rather we found out who the killer was a bit soon, but as I read further, I thought it was tied up nicely without leaving me as though the ending was just extra words.
Loved the subplots and deeper characterization into the secondary characters. It gave the story depth that impressed me and kept me working harder towards the ending and the transformation of these character’s lives. This is obviously the first in a series that will remain consecutive. The book, of course, gave the happy ending the reader is craving, but left it open enough for coming titles.
The crime is not a complex plot. The true killer didn’t come as a huge surprise to me, but the characters really sold the novel. Being a blogger, I can certainly relate to opening my mouth up on line and then wanting to retract what I said. I thought the occupation of the characters was a break from the norm and cliché.
Overall, I’m pleased with my reading experience. Loved the characters and I’m eager to spend more time with them in soon to be released titles. A must read for suspense/mystery fans.
This review is my honest opinion. Thanks to the publishers through Booksneeze for my copy to review.

Terri Blackstock is one of my favorite authors. She hooks the reader immediately and the story begins to unfold. I had difficulty knowing who the murderer was and didn't really know until almost when it was revealed. The story was woven tightly so it was difficult to know each character's part in the story. Can't wait for the next book!!

Truth Stained Lies is Terri Blackstock's newest offering. When their brother Jay is accused of murdering his soon to be ex-wife to gain custody of the couple young son, blogger Cathy Cramer and her sisters Holly and Juliet set out to clear him. However soon the sisters find themselves in over their heads, so they enlist Michael, a family friend and ex police detective who is now a P.I.
I loved all the characters and the fact that they were so dysfunctional. That just made it all the more real for me because with each character there were certain things that I could relate to.
Cathy is angry and bitter with God after the death of her fiancee Joe (who was also Michael's brother) has turned that anger inward and is totally focused on her work to the exclusion of almost everything else.
Michael is living with a mountain of regret, yet he tries his best to hang onto faith in God. After trying to shortcut the process to bring his brothers killer to justice he is dismissed from the police force and is now getting by as a PI.
Holly who seemed to take their fathers abandonment of the family the hardest is the hard core party girl and now harbors a secret. As she struggles to decide the right thing to do, she begins to realize that God has not left her at all. With the support of her family she begins to reconnect with them and God.
Juliet who has married and has two children and has found her healing within a new church. She seemed to be the most stable of the three girls, but she still had issues that she seemed to be working out. She just did it in a more productive "christian" way.
Maybe I read way to many mysteries, but I figured out who the killer was fairly early on, but that did not hinder me from staying up all night to finish the book. There was much more that I needed to find out because the book had several subplot going on as well.
I like all of this authors books, but I think that this is one of the best that this author has done in a long time.

Terri Blackstock is a favorite in our household, so being able to review one of her books is super exciting!
Truth Stained Lies is the first book of the Moonlighters Series. Three very different sisters end up moonlighting as private detectives...Cathy - a justice focused investigative blogger (because her fiancé was murdered and the murdered got off), Holly - a taxi driver for now but more of a party girl, and Juliet - a stay-at-home mom who’s husband is too busy in his career. They join together with Michael, a private detective, to find the truth for their brother, Jay, who is accused of killing his wife. However with the police so focused on what appears to make sense, can they find the truth? And soon enough for the life of Jay’s son?!
I was hooked from the beginning to the end! The characters were real, messed up, and easy to feel for. The story was interested and well written. And I love the faith - wether it was questioned or deeply held to; it was honest and beautiful.
I would highly recommend this book by Terri Blackstock! Actually both my husband and I would recommend all of her books.... so get reading!! :)

This is the story of Cathy Cramer who is a blog writer on murders that hit the media spotlight. Cathy's sister in-law is found dead in her house by her soon to be ex-husband (Jay) a.k.a. Cathy's brother. As Cathy is left with threatening messages on her car and wondering if she is going to be killed next, she also becomes her brother's lawyer.
The story has many character's along the way, with all their own with twists and turns. As Terri always does, she keeps you turning the pages. Each Chapter from beginning to the end, has that unusual story changes in every chapter.
If you enjoy a great murder mystery that keeps you guessing to the very end, then read this book! I loved this book, as I am an avid Terri fan and have read ALL her books. She always does a great story, that just makes the reader have to keep reading till the very end. I recommend this book to all those that love to just sit down and keep reading till you find out who did it..... I also recommend to those who want a great story that just makes you to keep wanting more. GREAT JOB AGAIN TERRI, can't wait for the next book!

Once again Terri Blackstock provides an entertaining and unique story. The first book in a new series we meet Cathy Cramer and her sisters, Juliet and Holly. Their brother, Jay is accused of murdering his estranged wife.
This story is fast paced from the beginning and keeps you guessing throughout. It took me awhile to warm up to the main character, Cathy Cramer but as the story developed I began to understand her and like her. My favorite character was Holly (and not just because we share the same name). She is the youngest sister and has struggled to find her way in life as she comes to terms with her past decisions.
This story provides not only a good mystery, but has several secondary plots that I’m looking forward to see how they develop. The secondary plots do not distract or confuse the main story, but leave you wanting more.
Disclaimer: I did receive this book from the publisher but was not under any obligation other than to give my honest opinion.

This novel marks the beginning of a new series by Blackstock, Moonlighters Series.
The story starts out in such a way that I was sure I had missed a previous novel in the series.
At the opening, a woman is murdered. Her estranged husband, Jay, is a suspect as he discovered her body after he had received an email that she wanted to talk to him. Jay has three sisters, Cathy, Holly, and Juliet. Cathy was engaged to Joe, a policeman, when he was killed. This has happened sometime in the not too distant past. Joe's brother, Michael, is now a sort of private investigator. He can't carry a gun as he is not allowed a permit to do so. He was an up and coming police officer, just like his father, grandfather, and two brothers, when something happened. We read about his sense of failure, how his family must be disappointed in him, and so on. In fact, Joe's murderer is free on the streets because of what Michael did.
Jay is arrested for the murder of his wife and his sisters and Michael work hard to find the real murder. The action intensifies as it looks like Cathy's life is in danger too.
The novel goes on with periodic references to this terrible deed Michael did that got him booted off the police force and disgraced his family. There are also many references to Joe's death. I kept on thinking that I must have missed a novel that came before this one. I even went on line to make sure this was the first in the series.
Finally, on page 168, I read what Michael did as he reminisced about his actions. It made sense. Finally. The rest of the novel was a pleasure to read.
What I didn't like was wondering what Michael's back story was all about for over half the book. I would have much rather had that information near the beginning. It would have made the interactions between Michael and the other characters in the book more understandable and of greater impact.
That being said, this was a pretty good novel. It is not Blackstock's best, but it is a good mystery. There is lots of action and the suspense intensifies as we get near the end. Sometimes I felt the plot was a little convoluted but it was believable.
Also, the characters in the novel certainly have more of their story to tell. Now that I know Michael's back story, I look forward to the next in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

How does she do it . . . over and over again??? Terri Blackstock grabs you on page one, pulls you right into the middle of a story, and doesn't let you go -- even after the last page is finished!
Truth Stained Lies may just be her very best book yet! The characters are unforgettable, real people with gritty problems and various levels of doubt or confidence about their faith. The story is filled with her characteristic suspense and intriguing relationships. In addition to the main emphasis on solving the crimes, there are several other sub-plots between characters and within the characters as they deal with their individual struggles.
The bad thing about this story -- the next book in the Moonlighters Series won't be out until early next year. That's a long wait to see where the story takes us next!
I highly recommend this "up-all-night" nail-biter that had tears streaming down my face at the conclusion. As always, Terri's writing is uplifting and God-honoring. Even her "Note from the Author" at the end of the book is thought-provoking and inspiring.
Thanks to Book Sneeze for providing a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a murder/suspense book plot. This book was well worth the wait considering it took a month to get my book because they had some delays in it.
This book was about a husband who was divorced from his wife and didn't have custody of his son and barely saw his son but was accused of killing his wife. The wife had been found shot to death in the shower with all her clothes on. The husband had claimed that the wife had wrote him an email that day asking him to come over and work things out and that when he got there that day, a person in a clown suit was leaving the house. So when the police came they thought he had done it and did not believe the clown story. Turns out the boys uncle had killed the woman because he had wanted the inheritance he was owed. Well the end of the book ends with the rightful man out of jail and the uncle in jail for all the caused. All in all it was a very good book and I read it in 3 days.

Truth Stained Lies offers up a wonderful blend of nail-biting suspense and strong characterization, making for a thoroughly entertaining read! I literally read through the novel in one sitting because I couldn't wait to see how everything would resolve. Would Jay's innocence be proven? Would his son Jackson be reunited with him? Would Cathy, Holly, and Juliet be able to find the killer? Terri Blackstock did a fantastic job of leading me from scene to scene, unfolding the truth one step at a time, all while causing me to fall in love with a family of characters I hope to meet again in future books! The characters are complex and realistic, with much to admire while still being completely human, people every reader can relate with. I also loved the overarching themes of the book, that God has a plan for our lives, that good triumphs evil, that forgiveness deals bitterness a blow, and that we are destined to do great things for God. Elements of faith are woven into the book in an utterly natural way without coming across as preachy, something that isn't always easy to do.
Terri Blackstock is at the top of her game, and Truth Stained Lies is not only a masterfully told suspense story, but beautifully showcases deeper themes of life as well. It is quite a ride, and I know you are going to love it! So grab a copy and dive in - but be prepared to lose sleep before you can finally put the book down! I highly recommend this book, and award it 5 out of 5 stars.

There are several things that I look forward to each year. Hopefully getting a tax refund (didn’t this year, though), hopefully getting a bonus (we’ll see in June!) and getting my hands on the latest Terri Blackstock thriller (nailed it!)
As divorces go, Jay’s divorce is the hardest of all. Not only is he fighting over custody of his 5-year old son with his cheating ex-wife, now she’s alleging child abuse allegations against him. If only he could get her to sit down and talk to him, sans all of the lawyers, he knows that he could convince her to drop everything and let him see his son. He gets an email asking him to come by her place just for that very reason. When Jay arrives, though, and sees the clown leaving the house, his life is about to change. He discovers that his wife has been shot and he’s unable to save her. In comes his three sisters to the rescue. Cathy, a former lawyer who know blogs about local homicides, Juliet, a stay-at-home mother of 2 and Holly, a taxi driver, all team up to help their brother uncover who really killed his ex-wife. Throw in a threat to Cathy over her latest blog material, a life-altering announcement by Holly and you have yourself another great novel by Terri Blackstock. Who’s making all of the threats against Cathy? What is going on in Holly’s life? Who killed Jay’s ex-wife and why? Ha! Go buy the book yourself and figure it out.
I love suspense and mystery books that take you on a journey of twists and turns and always keep you guessing right up until the end and then smack you in the face with, “Psych! You were wrong!”. I wish that I could say that about this book. I don’t know if it’s because I read so many of these books and watch so many TV shows and movies, but I had this figured out very early on. Does that make this a bad book? Not at all. Ms. Blackstock has created some deep characters in this book. The character of Holly fascinates me, I would hope that we see more of her in some additional books in this series. Cathy is such a strong character, too. To see her develop and get a better understanding of her role as a blogger was eye opening to me. I do have a blog, I use it to review great Christian fiction books. I can see, though, how Cathy was using hers for what she thought was the right reasons, but she was fooling herself. The pace of the story and the way the 3 sisters worked together fit perfectly in the story.
Is this a "guy's book"? While I have always enjoyed Terri Blackstock and any book that she has written, I can’t say that this is specifically a “guy’s book”. Guy’s will enjoy it if they love a good mystery and maybe, they won’t have it figured out as early as I did.

Truth Stained Lies (Moonlighters Series) is intriguing. The premise being that Cathy and her sisters solve the murder of their brother's ex-wife so that he does not serve a life sentence of the crime. Each of the sisters are doing their part to investigate what happened and why the criminal is after their brother and eventually their own. All of which is being shared on a blog belonging to Cathy. This aspect of social media is relatable and scary to think that we share so much of ourselves without realizing who is reading our thoughts and opinions. It was Nancy Drew 2.0, loved it.
