Hendrickson Publishers The Ante-Nicene Fathers, 10 vols.
The Ante-Nicene Fathers ranges from the Apostolic Fathers to various third and fourth century sources including the liturgies and ancient Syriac documents. It was intended to comprise translations into English of all the extant works of the Fathers (with the exception of the more bulky works of Origen) down to the date of the first General Council held at Nicaea in 325 A.D. This American edition by Arthur Cleveland Coxe is a revision of the original series edited by Alexander Roberts and Sir James Donaldson and published in Edinburgh. The revision involves a major rearrangement to conform to the historical sequence, the addition of brief introductions and notes indicating variances in readings, specifying references to scripture or literature, clarifying obscure passages, and noting corruptions or distortions of patristic testimony (as forged in the Decretals). The basic aim of the translations has been to strive for literary exactness, placing the English reader as nearly as possible on an equal footing with those who are able to read the original.

When doing research it is best to go to the source to find the answers. These 10 Volumes are a storehouse of knowledge, history and sources originating from a period when the fundamentals of Christianity were being formated. Now I look forward to getting the other 28 Vols.

For a long time this set has been out of reach for the average person but now at the price of $99 for 10 vols of a total 38 vol set the Church Fathers are finally within the grasp of those who wish to own them. I just hope that in the future CBD ships these books out in boxes with reinforced corners as a few books arrived with dinged / damaged corners.
That said, I am very pleased with the books themselves, they are both attractive externally and the print quality appears to be quite good too with an old-fashioned, yet easy to read font, even the small print footnotes are quite easy to read for my middle aged eyes.

The Church Fathers and Doctors have given us an understanding of unsearchable mysteries in the Bible and their work is the foundation for continued study and advancement in discovery of the treasures of the wisdom and knowledge of God that are hidden in the Word, that have yet to be discovered. The depths of the meaning of the teachings of Jesus Christ are found here and nowhere else in the world.

I just recieved this set of books in the mail yesterday. They have been on my wish list for quite some time at 99.99. Two weeks ago for some reason the price had dropped to 49.99 and I couldn't let the deal go so I purchased them. The quality is way beyond what I expected for fifty dollars and had I know how good they were I would have gladly paid the 100.00 bucks for this set. Absolute steal!

This collection on the Earliest Church Fathers is superb. I expected smaller volumes for the price. However, these volumes are very copmprehensive. CBD's price is VERY, VERY GENEROUS.

After having toughly read each document, I feel compelled to give this set a five star rating. Well done CB. Not only is this a beautiful set but these MSS are beautifully displayed. I was most greatfull for that tenth volume, what a useful tool! This is certainly a worthy investment for a true student of Yeshua our Lord and Messiah.

Awesome! Quality of the books themselves was outstanding. No disappointment there. I'm eagerly reading volume 1 now and am already finding item after item that I want to note for future reference! If you're undecided about this product, it's worth every penny you pay for it. I just thank the Lord that CBD has these series available for us!

A good collection of hard to find church fathers and even NT apocryphal gospels. If you are really interested in knowing what the church fathers actually wrote, this is definitely a must (especially if you are looking for a way to refute modern claims about the early church).

Brilliant! This is a collection worthy of any library, personal or institutional. If you only get through 1 edition per month, you have 10 months reading here at $14 per hardcover book. Bargains do not come better than this! Beautiful set.

This is a superb collection of historic writings from the Ancient Christian church leaders. Reading them takes you back to Christian understanding that predates the Enlightenment, Modernity, and Postmodernity. Many of the writers were one generation away from the apostles and were taught and influenced by them directly. The quality of the printing and binding is excellent.
