This is the 14 episode in a popular series Hermie & Friends by Max Lucados. Sad to say that this is the first one that I have seen. My eight year old had no interest in watching this movie. I guess that Ants and Caterpillers on the DVD case did not interest him, or he hadn't seen this advertised on TV. I think that this movie and series is geared more towards younger children and is very popular among preschool aged children. I watched this so I could write an honest review. I think that this movie has a great lesson to be learned. It's not easy to Love your Neighbors, especially when they are annoying. Also the lesson taught is that Your Neighbor is not just the person living next to you, but everyone you know and meet including people living in different countries. I liked the bonus features included in this, the Trivia Game/Quiz is a great way to see if the children followed along and caught on to the lesson. Also, the Sing-along and coloring pages I think are a hit for the kids. This is a great DVD to watch in a Religous Program and a fun way for the kids to learn important bible lessons. I would recommend this to the younger children as a fun and easy way of learning their faith.

Antonio Meets His Match is the latest release from Max Lucados Hermie and Friends Series. The focus of this DVD is the importance of loving your neighbor. After an introduction by Lucado, the viewer is introduced to Antonio. He has long been considered the leader of the ants. It appears he may loose his special place in the ant world when some foreign ants move into the garden. Antonios first inclination is to throw the new ants out of the garden, but through Gods intervention Antonio takes a different course. Upon the conclusion of the story Lucado provides further discussion of the key theme (loving your neighbor) of the DVD. His manner in both the introduction and wrap up is warm and pleasant.I wish some of the warmth and gentleness displayed by Lucado was more evident in the animated characters. None of them were particularly likable. Although the DVD is rated for all ages, I think the best target audience for the DVD is probably early elementary aged boys. The aggressiveness of the ants and the conflict within the video makes it potentially disturbing for very young (pre-school aged) viewers.Although not a hit for our home, I do think that little boys would potentially truly enjoy this animated story which shares an important biblical lesson. While this complimentary DVD was provided for review, no other compensation was given. All remarks are my personal and honest opinions.

"Antonio Meets His Match" is the second dvd I have seen in Max Lucado's Hermie and Friends series. I put this on to watch with my 18 month old daughter and it held her attention for quite awhile! I would recommend this for young children up to age 8.Antonio is the strongest and bravest ant in the garden. One day some kilt wearing foreign ants move into the garden and Antonio's first response is to have them leave. Antonio and the others in the garden begin a journey of learning the very important lesson of loving your neighbor as you love yourself. This may be easy if your neighbor is a nice person, however this is more difficult if the neighbor is annoying and mean. Antonio learns that no matter how annoying or mean his neighbor is, he needs to love his neighbor. This is all learned through a series of unusual competitions and situations that result in everyone learning the important lesson. The "love your neighbor" concept is woven throughout the entire story. Anyone wanting to share this message with his or her child should watch this dvd.

Antonio Meets His Match, the latest in Max Lucados Hermie & Friends DVD series by Tommy Nelson Publishing, teaches children and adults alike that God commands us to love our neighbors, even when those neighbors are very annoying. A group of kilt-wearing, bagpipe-playing, Scottish red ants move into the garden, and Antonio and Hermie are immediately offended by the newbies habits and attitudes. The Scotsmen dont give an inch, and tempers flare. After a couple altercations, Antonio and Angus agree to settle the arguments by some traditional Scottish games. Antonio is winning handily until the bagpipe playingthen, not so much. Antonio loses the contest and has to move. Both sides learn a lesson about neighborliness when Billy Croaker takes matters into his hands.Although the actual story of Antonio Meets His Match was a little slow starting, the outcome was good and the story was true to Gods Word. We are commanded to love our neighbors, and not just the ones who are easy to love.In addition to the actual story, I appreciated the Bonus features of the DVD, especially the sing-along, How Could Anyone Not Love Me? because Angus Scottish brogue was difficult to understand during the story. The other bonus features are great, as well.

Weve seen a handful of DVDs from the Hermie series, and I generally find them to be entertaining to our girls and carry a good message that I can applaud. Antonio Meets His Match was no exception to this assessment. It kept my girls entertained, encouraged treating others with kindness regardless of their actions toward us, and included prayer as an essential element. One thing I love about the Hermie series is that prayer is always a central key to the plot. I especially appreciate that prayer is shown to be not only submitting requests to God, but listening and receiving guidance and encouragement from Him as well. However, as is the case with most childrens DVDs, I think at times the take-away message is not as biblically robust as I would like to see. I was disappointed by the somewhat weak presentation of the requirements of the biblical mandate of Luke 10:27, the scripture the story sets forth as its foundation. Reducing the message of Love your neighbor as you love yourself to be nice, even to the annoying guy seems to be falling short of the context of the parable of the Good Samaritan. The way the story plays out, Antonios love for his neighbor is scarcely evident until his final act of heroism. But even that act (saving his annoying neighbor Angus from an unruly frog) comes at no great sacrifice to Antonio. He states clearly that the frog posed no real threat, and at the beginning of the movie we see him subdue the same frog, seemingly for sport. Although Angus was frightened, and is subsequently so grateful that the relationship with Antonio is repaired, this depiction is a long way from demonstrating the humility and self-sacrifice implored in the quoted scripture. Yes, this is just a childrens DVD...but theology matters, even for kids. This review copy was courtesy of BookSneeze.com and this opinion is my own.

My oldest son remembers Antonio as "the strong one" in the group so he was a great choice for this story, which centered around loving others unconditionally. (Luke 10:27) Antonio is faced with an annoying new neighbor that he tries to get rid of more than once. As in all of these movies, tho, God gives him a bit of advice and Antonio begins to see things differently.I thought the story was wonderful, especially for children in the 4-8 age range. I love the way this movie showcases the struggle that we all face in loving others that are different.

Antonio Meets His Match is the 14th episode in the popular Hermie and Friends series by Max Lucado. In this story, Antonio the ant has a new neighbor, Angus, who really gets on his nerves, but God tells Antonio to love Angus. First Mia's review: You know why I really love the Hermie movies? Because they teach us about God. God made MaxLucado special - I love his stories. The movie was awesome. It's funny when everyone keeps calling Angus' kilt a skirt. Antonio kept getting hit on his head with a golf ball; it was hilarious. I felt bad for Hermie and Antonio when they tried to be nice and the neighbors were mean to them. I liked the beat and music to Angus' song, but I didn't like the words because he's so mean! It's really hard to love someone who is calling you names, but God tells us that we have to try. I learned something about myself in this movie: I love bagpipes!Caterpilla at the end is better than the Cinderella story. I laughed so hard when all of the fairies showed up at the end! Now my review: we're big fans of the Hermie movies here because of the bright animation and excellent messages about God and His word. This DVD focuses on loving your neighbor even when they are "so annoying!" God tells Antonio that He doesn't say to "put up with" our neighbors but to love them as He loves us. Antonio puts up with a lot of abuse from Angus and friends, but he does his best to love him anyway, giving a powerful example to children on how to handle teasing and bullies. The short film at the end,Caterpilla, thrilled Mia and had a different message about seeking God's will in our lives instead of always chasing our own desires. Lucado speaks to children in a way they understand and inserts plenty of humor to keep their interest. Mia has watched the movie several times already, so it will keep their attention as well.

My children and I enjoyed Antonio Meets His Match. The story was a very simple child's story about loving your neighbor. Hermie and friends are great animation stories for young children, and Antonio Meets His Match was no exception. It is very well done and definitely endears youngsters to Hermie and his friends, who love God and try to obey Him.It shows children that they need to be loving even when people annoy them or are mean to them. This kept the attention of my special needs child. I am thankful for DVD's like this that teach positive lessons to children on their level. The characters are cute and well done, the colors and animation are good also. It took a common child's problem and showed children how to deal with it.The story is about some annoying ants that move to the garden. Nobody likes them because they are weird as well as frustratingly annoying. They tend to be bullies and think only of themselves. Antonio is asked to kick them out of the garden and he agrees to this plan, until God changes his plans and tells Antonio to love his neighbor. Antonio tries to obey, and then messes up, but ultimately chooses to obey God with good results. Although this is a story, several of the scenarios in the story are things that happen to our children when they are playing with others, or at school. Antonio Meets His Match is good at presenting the problem, showing kids what God thinks about the problem, and showing the results of ultimately obeying God.We definitely want to see more of Hermie and friends at our house. Max Lucado has done a really good job.

My Rating: 4 out of 5 StarsWhile books are my favorite form of media and entertainment for both myself and my children, I also find that Biblically based movies can have a place in teaching, too. This newest release from Thomas Nelson does a fine job of teaching children and even some adults about loving others. When some new Ants move into town it looks like Antonio may be loosing his spot as top ant. However, through love even when he doesnt feel like it he wins some friends instead of enemies. Just as in real life, some of his friends dont understand why he is choosing love. While this movie ends good, unlike some of real lifes experiences, it proves to be a great source of encouragement, Biblically based teaching, and wholesome entertainment for the whole family. It teaches lessons on a topic that all kids will face at one point in time and gives parents a great way to begin some discussion or refer to as an example in conversations with their children.Dont turn off the T.V. when the credits roll or you will miss the short film of Caterpilla which my daughters thought was so much fun!* * * * *This review copy was courtesy of BookSneeze.com and this opinion is my own.

I have enjoyed reading and reviewing books for Thomas Nelson, it is fun to open up the mail and find an envelope with a book inside. My 6 year old always looks longingly at those envelopes and asks, "Is that a book I can read when you get finished with it?" So, when I saw that Hermie & Friends: Antonio Meets His Match from Max Lucado was available, I thought it would be fun to request something that she could also enjoy this time. This movie teaches the lesson of Luke 10:27 "Love your neighbor as yourself".Here is my daughter's review:Q. What did you think of this movie?A. It was good.Q. What was this movie about?A. It was about loving your neighbors. The Scottish ants move in and Antonio tries to love them, even though they are so annoying and mean. He saves the new ants from a frog that they called the Swamp Ness Monster, and then they become friends. Q. Does loving your neighbor mean that you just have to love the people who live next door?A. No, it means all the people who you come in contact with, people from other countries, and the people who live next door.Q. What was your favorite part?A. The end, where the caterpillar tells the ants to play their bagpipes and Max Lucado whispers "Help me!" It is funny.MY review:I thought this was a cute movie. It was a little young for my daughter, I would say it is probably targeted to 5 and younger kids. It did a good job conveying the biblical principle. There is also a little short cartoon at the end which spoofs the Cinderella story, that was cute. It is a good chance to pop some popcorn and cuddle up with your preschooler and learn the lesson that when God says to love your neighbor, He really means to love them no matter what!

This is a fun addition to the Hermie and Friends series. My two sons (ages 9 and 6) loved it! The vocal talent is stellar. (I love hearing Tim Conway as Hermie). The message that we are to love our neighbors no matter how annoying or different is given in a very clear, yet fun way. Be sure to keep the movie rolling through the credits so as not to miss Hermie in "Caterpilla" (a fun retelling of Cinderella with a message).www.booksneeze.com

Antonio Meets His Match is the newest of Max Lucados Hermie & Friends DVDs. Antonio is a brave and athletic ant, the most respected in the garden. One day a new neighbor moves inan annoying and challenging neighbor. Antonios first response is to want to throw the pest and his friends out, but God changes his course by telling him to love his neighbor. The lesson (love your neighbor as yourself) is good and clear. Unlike many Christian cartoons, it is the main theme rather than an afterthought. And both before and after the main feature, Max Lucado explains the concept of loving your neighbor. For that reason, I appreciate Antonio Meets His Match. The computer animation is another positive. But the characters are not very likable. Nor is the plot entertaining. It is, for our children, hard to follow. Having three little ones under six years old, we watch lots of childrens DVDs. Our girls are not overly impressed with this one. Bonnie, our oldest, watched it with a frown. When it was over, I asked her how she liked it. I thinknot very much, she said. The athletic contests, the boisterous ants, and the conflicts all make Antonio a movie that boys between the ages of 5-7 would probably enjoy. But my family found the DVD much like Antonios new neighborannoying. I received this DVD through the Thomas Nelson Book Review Blogger Program.

Antonio is the strongest ant in the garden. He comes in number one in all the competitions. The fame of his athletic prowess is lauded in the whole garden. One day a rude and annoying ant shows up and tests Antonio's patience. This is the story of God guiding Antonio to do the right thing and love his neighbor.I truly enjoy watching Hermie movies with my daughter. This dvd was not as good as the other Hermie dvds we have seen, but it is a good movie none the less. There is a good lesson contained in the story. I find it hard to love annoying and hurtful people myself and this story offers us a poignant reminder to pray for those who persecute us.There is a short at the end of the movie that I did not care for called Caterpilla. I don't really see how a story about fairies aids in teaching my daughter about Christ. All in all, it was still cute.

Our family just finished watching Antonio Meets His Match, the newest DVD in Max Lucados Hermie and Friends series. This dvd was about loving your neighbors. Antonio is at odds with a few red ants that move into the garden. He must go through the process of learning to love his neighbors, even if its a struggle. This DVD has a great message about learning to accept people who may be different then you are. My children enjoyed the part where the Scottish ants learned to be nice to Antonio. They liked the music and dancing towards the end of the movie. I appreciate the opening and ending of the movie in which Lucado discusses the storyline. I think it really helps to clarify the message in the movie. I enjoy the positive messages in each movie released in this series. It allows me to then spend time talking to my children about how they can apply the message in their own life. We own all the dvds in this series, and Antonio Meets His Match will be a great addition to our collection. just recently recieved the dvd Antonio Meets his match, by Max Lucado. My children (ages 3 and 6) were so excited to see this arrive in the mail as they love the Hermie and Friends movies!! Just like all the other Hermie and friends movies this one is excellent! Its well done and gets a clear message across about loving your neighbor! They tell the stories in a way that kids can understand and learn while enjoying the movie! In this movie new neighbors move into the garden who annoy all the bugs. All the bugs would like for these new ants to leave, but God tells them to love them instead. So we watch as the garden bugs try and put this into effect! lol. Very cute and a great dvd for children! I highly recommend it!

Both my nearly 2 year old & 4 year old liked this DVD. The actual show is about 30 minutes, the 60 minute time on the back is including the bonus features, so the time length was good, it held their attention the whole time. I love the idea of loving everyone, even his 'different' neighbors that move in & he thinks are odd. And my 4 year old remembered later to point out to me that GOD will help us to love others that we find hard to love because of HIS love, so that was obviously a great take away. I would recommend it for about ages 6-7 and under I think; my kids really enjoyed it.

I had no expectations for this movie whatsoever. Im not partial to films like this. So I was surprised that I could actually watch its full length. The story was surprisingly cute, there was humor and undoubtedly it will hold a childs attention. There was a variation of accents (which is absolutely necessary), activity and its plot was fairly creative. Max Lucados Hermie and Friends series is obviously popular because new material keeps coming out. I have yet to see anything that Max Lucado writes that doesnt make a splash. I well remember the first book I ever read by him. Its still my favorite. On this film there is also a message from Max Lucado in the garden which a sweet idea as the insect characters live in the garden. The message thru out the film is a biblical one very reminiscent and signature of Lucado. I did think that the extra short cartoon entitled Caterpilla in the end was just plain silly. Not quite my piece of pie or my idea of entertainment. The original story Antonio Meets His Match makes the scale. If your kids are anything like my students, they enjoy anything with motion. This product was made available for review by Thomas Nelson publishers.

Another delightful story from Max Lucado. I have been a fan of his books and can now share his stories with my children.Hermie is a lovable character who we thoroughly enjoy. But this story is about his friend, Antonio, who is finding it hard to love his neighbor. No matter how hard he tries, he does not like his new neighbor. God reminds him, and us, that He wants to love our neighbor even when it is hard. This is a good lesson for not just the kids but for the adults, too. What I liked about the story was the reminder that we are not just to "put up with" our neighbors but to truly love them. It is only through God's love for us that we can love others.

The next thing I reviewed for Thomas Nelson was a DVD called Hermie: Antonio Meets his Match. This is a childrens movie written by Max Lucado. It is approximately 30 minute long, and there are some bonus features that can be watched as well. I was really impressed with this film. The story focuses on Antonio, the ant, and his lesson in loving his neighbor. Some new neighbors move into his area of the garden, and Antonio soon realizes that they are very different from him. The neighbors are from Scotland, like to dress differently, like different music, and enjoy different sports than Antonio. Antonio starts out not showing them love at all. He slowly begins to try to be Godly (after he hears from God about loving his neighbors), and realizes that it is going to be much harder than he thought. The film gives a realistic view on loving people that are not always easy to love, and loving people that are different from ourselves. The animation is really cute, and kept my 18 month old entertained the whole 30 minutes! I enjoyed watching it as well, and think that children of all ages would enjoy this movie.
