What can I say about "Mere Christianity" which hasn't been said many times over, already? It is a must-have book, and what better deal can you find than this, getting both books in a single volume, and especially in hardback!

I enjoyed reading "Mere Christianity". I liked the format of the question and answer and background that was given. Intelligent and Christian. So far I have not read the "Screwtape" part. This book is convenient having both Volumes in 1. It's not to big or bulky.

I purchased these books to be used as a follow-up for our
Renovare study group. Screwtape Letters is excellent for both seeing how the Disciplines of our faith are used or abused; and it is also a great introduction to Mere Christianity
which our group would probably be intimidated by if we had
jumped straight into reading it.

A Classic 2 in 1 (new) hardcover for a (used) price. No reason not to have in every Christian Library. CS Lewis really challenges the way we look at our faith and personal theological view using biblical principles and scholarly logic that ultimately points back to our AWESOME GOD. Reading CS Lewis helps me to be a more grounded (but still AWE-STRUCK) Christian - much closer to where I think Christ would want me to be as a believer in the 21st century. One does not have to agree with every point to appreciate the value of the discussions he raises. It is simply classic Christian reading that transcends the last century (and I dare say moving forward as Christ's kingdom approaches).

I studied these books in school and I love them! C.S. Lewis is my favorite Christian author. However these books are not for a beginner or a light read. They are best for a Bible study setting. If your up for the challenge I would highly highly highly recommend them!

It is important to remember that C.S. Lewis was an atheist until a road trip one day where he rode into a mist and came out a believer. Never again did he write the erudite books that made him stand out amongst his piers which caused him to lose the chair he sought in the English department at Oxford. When you study his life you can see that he was endorsed by the Holy Spirit to enter into spiritual labor. His Screwtape letters gives a comical estimation of a novice demon learning his deceitful craft. Mere Christianity shows the simplicity he uses to show the truth of the Christian faith. For those who are seeking a more profound understanding of our Christian faith, C.S.Lewis was commissionedby God to do so.

Have not read it lately. I bought it so I could give my daughter back a copy she has that she got from one of her college profs. Have NEVER made it through the last chapter in any case. Some VERY DEEP and insightful thoughts in the last chapter of 'Mere'.
