This updated version was needed. With new products every year I was glad to see another book from Cathy Duffy on curriculum. The intro sections are always good review for homeschool teachers, but the update choices in curriculum was what I most enjoyed reading about. It gave me more options to consider/research. This is a book you keep and loan out often to new homeschool families. I look at mine several times a year.

It is so easy to get information overload when looking at all the choices for curriculum out there. Where to begin!?
Cathy gets right down to students learning style, learning personality types, goals of the parent, and then gives you direction to achieve the best choice for your child.
I was so lost before reading this book, now I feel confident in my ability to chose the best curriculum for my kids AND myself! Phew!

You have made the decision to home school your child.
Next, questions begin to float through your mind, "Where do I begin? How do I develop a philosophy of education? How does my child learn best? What should my child learn and when? What curriculum should I use?"
Homeschooling mother, author and curriculum consultant, Cathy Duffy has taken the time to address these questions and many more in her book, "100 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum: Choosing the Right Curriculum and Approach for Your Child's Learning Style."
Duffy's book is basically a "guide book" for the novice homeschooler.
The book is divided into two parts. The first six chapters assist the novice in becoming "goal-oriented" rather than "curriculum driven." The remaining eight chapters break down the components of education (Phonics, Reading, Literature, Mathematics, Language Arts, History, Geography and Cultural Studies, Science, Unit Studies and All-in-One Programs, Foreign Language, Electives, and Online Classes) into individual chapters. Within the chapters Duffy gives an introduction to the topic, followed by her "top picks" accompanied by reviews.
This resource is a clear, concise guide to assist the novice homeschooler entering the world of home education.
