What an amazing way to look at the blessings of our good God. The language is a little "flowery", which is a bit hard to adjust to in the beginning, but if you can keep on reading, the message is life-changing. Thank you, Ann

This book has changed my life! I gave away about 20 copies to my employees and am having a book study with the ladies of my Community Group. I bought the DVD and the study guide. The simplicity of giving thanks in everything can be easily overlooked in our Christian walk, unless you truly apply it as Ann Voskamp suggests. The journal I keep has brought me joy even in the midst of the latest trial of breaking my ankle and seeing God's hand in the ugly beautiful. I am closer to Jesus and joyfully thanking Him for the grace He provides in every aspect of my life.

Like many moms my life is crazy. I was running through life and NEVER stopping to smell the roses. 1000 Gifts is written in a very poetic manner which I was not sure when I started the book if I was going to liked it. By the second chapter I was hooked. It taught me to slow down and actually read the words she had written and not skim through it, always in a rush to get to the next book. The book tells you about starting a list of 1000 Gifts, which I started and will now be doing for the rest of my life. Trusting in the Lord in all things in your life both good and bad. I have slowed down and have a much better relationship with the Lord.

What a find! A woman suggested our group read this book and wow, I am so grateful. This is one of the best books I've ever read. Her writing style takes a bit to get used to but so many nuggets to highlight. A must read!

I had already read a copy of this book and given it as gifts a couple of times, but finally purchased this one so I could have a copy to loan to others. The book is written in thought pattern, so it jumps a bit but it makes it possible to run with the author as she explores and grows with these ideas. Wonderful to see where she 'goes' from where she's 'been'; and helps us all take thankfulness more to our hearts.

This book teaches you to look for and write down Gods blessings and that they are all around if you just take the time to seek him and them. Even thru the toughest of times/sad times God is still Good and he is still blessing you. It was slow for me to get in the style of writing but, I kept reading and WOW I am so blessed that I did. God spoke to me through this book and I know it is going to bless me in the days ahead, whatever God has in store; I will always be able to see his gifts to me and to others.

In this book the author has chronicled her journey from ingratitude to gratitude in a poetic way. Her transformation is amazing to see. By deciding on choosing to be grateful, she now is a happier person, enjoys a fuller life and a closer relationship to God. Gratitude does have a powerful life changing effect on people. It’s great that she recorded and published this journey, so others can learn from it. She dares her readers to follow in her footsteps to a happier, more God-filled life.
While the story is incredible, I know I would have enjoyed it much more had it not been written in this poetic voice – a whole story in this lyrical language is a bit much. Part of me understands why the author chose to write like this, however the reading part of my brain did not appreciate the gesture. I’m assuming Ms. Voskamp, attempted to borrow a page from the Psalmist David, since he too wrote poetically about his struggles and triumphs. I also didn’t appreciate how the author slipped into a Song of Solomon mode to portray her deeper relationship with God, but in my humble opinion took it too far. Here’s one such example that caused me to do a double take: “I fly to Paris to make love to God.” I was wondering if anybody really needs phrases such as this to understand an intimate relationship with God.
I know this book has gotten rave reviews, and in a way I’m sorry that I couldn’t jump on that train. However, I have to stay true to what I was feeling about this book, even if it means voicing things that others seemingly had no trouble with, and which I’ll probably be criticized for. Even though this story does have a valid message, it’s not something I would recommend, because of the tedious text sprinkled with disturbing phrases, and has too much fluff. There are better books on gratitude.

This book was a game changer for me. Still is actually. A friend recommended it to me so I decided to check it out online before buying it. Just reading the first chapter (sample online) completely changed my attitude, perspective, and filled me with wonder that very day.
This is a must read for everyone trying to really live on this broken planet. Its like the metal detector that helped me discover the treasure in the dirt I've been standing on all these years. This book is a GIFT of God's Grace.

Ann Voskamp has an amazing gift of writing. She weaves the Biblical principle of gratitude as she tells her story of that discovery. She has a wonderful poetic way of letting you into her world. You feel what she feels, and it's like you are right there with her. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
