Kate Spencer is the second oldest of four daughters who have lost their parents in a tragic accident. Kate assumed responsibilities to help raise her youngest sister and assist in running family-owned "Sweet Treats Bakery," which resulted in a broken engagement just weeks before her wedding. After their broken engagement, brokenhearted Logan Daniels left for California in order to fulfill his dream of becoming a commercial builder. The necessity for construction of a new library in Mount Ridge, Tennessee brings Logan back home where he seeks the possibility of a second chance with Kate. Logan's surprise visit to the bakery places Kate in a panic. She has just finished making her specialty, a batch of "kisses" (cherries and rich sweet cream dipped in chocolate), and Logan can't resist. He purchases a few as he scrutinizes Kate's reaction to his presence. Kate's kisses are sweet, but her initial response to Logan isn't quite what he hoped for.
Mary Manners has a gift of creating lovable and diverse characters who possess charisma and charm. Her visual descriptions capture the essence of the scenes and characters she creates. I read this book this afternoon, and found myself smiling as evnts unfolded. This is a delightful short story of loss, relationships, renewal and romance. "Kate's Kisses (Sweet Treats Bakery)" is entertaining, heartwarming and as sweet as her kisses!
