I’ve heard that some approach this book cautiously, unsure of the “startling revelations.” Having grown up in the church, I took the book on more boldly, almost saying, “Startle me, I dare you.”
What I found was relief. The Gospel of Ruth is a refreshing and enlightening view of a small book that has been traditionally preached as a fairytale. I for one am tired of that approach and cannot relate. James shoes us the real Ruth—gutsy, courageous, and even a bit defiant. She has become my hero and my permission to also be a strong woman of God.

I found this book very encouraging and will recommend it especially to those who are struggling to understand what it can mean to be a woman and a follower of Christ.

Endjoyed the fresh perspective. I have always thought it was more than a love story. Thanks for clarifying my thinking. I'll keep researching this and many other issues.

I felt like I was reading the book of Ruth for the first time and that I had a godly women explaining it to me. I saw this book with a fresh new pair of eyes. I fell in love with this book of the Bible! I want to keep it by my side as I help others understand the meaning of submission. What godly woman and a godly man of valor these three were and they cause me to want to be more for God than I am. Absolutely wonderful.

This was an inspiriing read - biblically sound, insightful, and encouraging. I didn't want to put it down! I read it at a time of questioning in my own life, and was surprised by the depth of the book as it deals with difficult issues and beautiful moments in life. I'd recommend it to anyone.

This book was awesome! I loved that it showed how Naomi and Ruth's lives were impacted by their losses and it brought a new understanding of the type of man Boaz really was. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the history of the timeframe. And for anyone who has dealt with asking God why me?

This book totally changed my view of the familiar story of Ruth. I always thought it was the ultimate "Cinderella love story!" But Ms. James clearly paints it as a love story where God is the main character who teaches two despairing women and one man of valor that He is always faithful in his love for them and in keeping His promises. A wonderful read that will inspire hope and deeper faith in every reader, women and men alike.
