I found that there are many ways an individual can be a Christian Atheist. I can honestly say I found myself, but I thank God I no longer have to be a Christian Atheist. I am true Christian believer!

A very interesting read and insightful book that causes one to take a moment to reflect and reassess where you are with God...a "reality check". It really made me stretch my faith muscles and I have recommended it to many friends and family.

Reading this book made me ask some tough questions of myself and my relationship with Jesus. Am I who I proclaim to be? I intend on reading this book again and will encourage those close to me to read it also.

This book was actually introduced to me by a dear family member and came with very high recommendations. I actually had been searching for the book and could not find it until I saw it on Christianbooks.com. I received prompt and excellent service from Christianbooks.com (as I always have) and highly recommend the book and doing business with an outstanding company.

I just got this book a couple of days ago and have had a hard time putting it down. Craig takes some very serious information and makes it so real, so palatable, so touchable to everyone. His candid and transparent stories/examples carry across all ages and easily draws a person into the tough and serious question of who we really serve. He's a talented writer who knows how to incorporate humor into the mix. I've been reading this to my kids (8, 11, 14 and 16), and they never want me to stop! He challenges the reader to step out from just believing in Jesus, God, heaven, or hell to really LIVING FOR HIM. Great questions. Great honesty. Great message. This is definately a must read.

A good premise and good promise, but didn't hit hard enough. I pray it reaches and changes the target audience, but I'm not sure the "Christian Atheist" will be willing to put in the time to read the book.

I believe that Craig Groeschel in his book The Christian Atheist deals with an important issue facing the church, that there are those in the church that claim to be a Christian but don’t live like one. Our churches are full of people who live one way on Sunday, if they attend church at all, and another the rest of the week. And Groeschel shows us the fallacy of that belief and the way out, just not always successfully.
Groeschel, senior pastor of lifechurch.tv, opens the book by quoting Titus 1:6, They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny Him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good. This has to be one of the most convicting passages in all of Scripture. God has called us, no commanded us, to live a certain way and those of us who claim to know Him usually do a poor job of being obedient to the commands found in Scripture. Groeschel chooses to address certain areas of the Christian life that he believes Christians behave more like atheists than Christian. Each chapter begins with “When you believe in God but…” Some of the topics covered deal with not really knowing God, being ashamed of your past, a lack of prayer, not believing God is fair to worry, money and evangelism amongst others.
The chapters that stuck out most to me dealt with the church and happiness for different reasons. First his thoughts on the church. He titles that chapter “When You Believe in God but Not in His Church.” One false notion he is addressing are those who don’t go to church because they haven’t found a church that fits their liking. He states that if we don’t like the church then be the agent of change the church needs. He also speaks to the fact that in the body of Christ each part comes together in church and minister’s to the other needs, wants and for their encouragement. He writes that if we are not ministering and using our gifts in the church then something God wants done isn’t getting done. This chapter ministered to me more than any other. It caused me to examine my view of my role and participation in the church I serve in and for that I am grateful.
As for the chapter on happiness he is spot on in confronting the false notion that we pursue happiness at all costs. We desire the things that the world tells us will make us happy but in the end they leave us feeling hollow and/or wanting more. What is lacking in the chapter little mention of what true happiness is. He does say that it is found in Christ but never says how. The Beatitudes found in Matthew 5 is where we find the Biblical instructions on perfect and pure happiness but Groeschel never takes the reader there and that is unfortunate.
With that said I would recommend this book to anyone, no matter if they are living fully devoted lives to Christ or are living as though God doesn’t exist. You will be challenged, at times moved to tears and hopefully encouraged to run the race with greater zeal for Christ.

This is a one or two-day read, not particularly heavy materials with good insights and stories to prove a point. I bought this book to enhance the Bible study we are doing using the DVD and participant guides.

This book is excellent. I love that it challenges my thinking. There is a chapter that makes you think about what you call God and how you look at him. I have always called him Father but never accepted the fullness of his love as Father. One of the other examples was something my husband and I struggle with. Wow! Somebody else does to and they are christians. Amazing book worthy of reading.

I have seen a difference between "professing" and "confessing" Christians. "the Christian atheist" is the sum of these two. The subject matter in each chapter is reflective to life experiences. While I saw others in the early chapters, I found my particular "Christian atheism" in a later chapter. I've ordered more copies for friends.

This is a book all need to read for this day and time. So many people may think they are a Christian but are they really?
Are we as Christians sending the wrong message to people we see each day? This book will make you check up your own spiritual life and help you get it where it needs to be.

This book helped me a great deal in rethinking my walk with Christ. I felt a conviction right from the first few chapters, that i was not being the Christian I thought I was. I book is an easy read as well as very eye opening.
After reading it, I know I had to make changes and be a better Christian. I and my family have been blessed as a result of reading this book. I hope everyone will open their mind and heart to this call back to Christ.
