Ever since we used Kenneth Taylor's "Big Thoughts for Little People..." with our three children (20-30 years ago), we have been giving copies as baby shower gifts. The "thoughts" and pictures in the book never get old to young children and parents appreciate a tool to stimulate fun teaching moments with their children.

Big Thoughts for Little People is a beautifully illustrated devotional for young children. Every page is designed to capture the child's attention while at the same time the words printed for the parent to read are designed to teach them a Biblical lesson. I had a previously printed version when I was younger and now my children enjoy Big Thoughts for Little People too.

I love this book. Each letter of the alphabet has a biblical principle and Bible verse to go with it. On the adjoining page the picture has so many cute details that you can refer to to illustrate the principle. I had a version of this many years ago for my girls and this one is perfect for our granddaughter.

I read this book to my 4 children when they were young! I was so glad to see it back in print! It is an excellent devotion book that teaches children biblical truths. My children also loved to find the ladybugs hidden on the pages after we read and discussed each devotional page. I am hoping that the other books that Kenneth Taylor has for young children will also be reprinted! I purchased quite a few to give out at baby showers, etc.

I love to give this book to new parents as a stepping stone for their new child to grow into. The child will enjoy the interaction on each page as he/she learns a Biblical truth and hunts for the ladybugs. Great for baptismal gift, too!

I bought this book as a gift because my kids enjoyed it when they were little. A relative bought it for my kids--such a dear and thoughtful book. Count the ladybugs--get the book and you'll understand.

As with Kenneth Taylor's other books with which we raised our four children and others, this is beautiful, fun, and easy to promote discussion with this age group, teaching values in a practical yet soundly theological way. Highly recommended. I will use it with our grandchild(ren) now.

Tayor's book uses the alphabet to discuss complex issues and virtues with children. Each letter is followed by a gift, blessing or emotion that God has given to his children. Each letter is followed by a commentary, questions and bible verse. This I believe is a multi-aged book. Its information builds and their is something for children of all ages to reflect and ponder. It isnt easy to teach complex feelings and thoughts Taylors approach to simplifying Gods graces and teachings for children is very important. The eye-catching, colorful and detailed artwork by Andrea Petrlik Huseinovic completes this unique and creative literary piece. This book is truly one to be shared with all family, friends, church and students.A hardcover copy of Big Thoughts for Little People was provided by Tyndale House Publishers.

Arranged around the letters of the alphabet, each features a lesson relating to Christian character and moral development. A is for Asking, B is for Behave, C is for Crying and so on. Introduced by a four lines of rhyming verse. I was afraid that the simple, direct, and pull-no punches moral teachings might be considered boring for my little ones, but if we take it one letter at a time and allow the lessons to sink in, they eat it right up.A paragraph discussing the concept and relating it to the accompanying illustration follows the rhyme. Three brief, age-appropriate questions are then asked. At times these questions encourage children to examine and interact with the artwork (What are some good things the children are doing? Tell about each one.). At other times the questions encourage the child to engage in personal reflection and encourage brainstorming ways to do better (What kind of thing could you do to help someone?). Each letter closes with a scripture verse from Taylors own The Living Bible.Does it work? If taken a letter at a time and reinforced by the parent, Im going to say yes! After reading, C is for Crying, in which Taylor explains that crying isnt really necessary unless an injury has been sustained, I started asking my three-year-old if shed been hurt when she was sniffling to herself. Sometimes she said yes, I kissed her better, and she went on with her day happily. Other times she didnt say anything, thought about it, and stopped crying. Wow.New illustrations for the classic text provide much of the appeal found within the pages of Big Thoughts. Thickly layered bright paints, and toothy paper lend the bold palette a highly developed sense of texture and motion. Busy paintings filled with a plethora of active children, activities and objects that start with the target letter, and hidden ladybugs to count give equally busy eyes something to keep them busy while little minds absorb the lesson embedded in the text.

n Big Thoughts for Little People, you will find a page for every letter in the alphabet. Each letter stands for an idea that is presented by rhyming text and pictures. These are what really highlight this book. They draw the kids in with the rhyme, then ask them to see what is going on in the pictures. It then discusses the pictures, and idea even more. I really like how it gives you things to ask your children, or to think about, to further explore that specific lesson. The illustrations are great. They are colorful and fun, and it is great to be able to really explore them to talk about the lessons presented. This is kind of a long book, but with lessons being seperated by each letter, you can read one page at a sitting. The biblical themes are great for younsters, and not too complex. I think this would be a great book for children 2-8 years old.

This colorful book literally goes through the alphabet with the child. Each alphabet letter has two pages; one containing the text and the other illustrating what is written. Each letter teach the child about a Christian value or moral lesson that begins with that specific letter. The illustration will help the child to engage in the book and discover the lesson being taught. Inside the illustrations, you will also find objects or actions that would start with that letter. And yes there are ladybugs all over the book. For each illustration you can take some time with your child and search for the ladybugs. I would also strongly suggest that you discuss about the illustration by using the questions found in the previous page or by just playing with your child counting the objects in the page, describing what the child see, talking about the illustration, etc. Finally scriptures related to the theme of the page are also included for each letter of the alphabet. This touch will help the parent to instill Gods Word in the life of their children. This book is an updated version of the original print published in 1983 and will permit parents to introduce a new generation of children to the lessons from Kenneth N. Taylor.

At it's most basic, Big Thoughts for Little People is an alphabet book. Each two-page spread brings up a topic, includes appropriate illustrations, and offers a paragraph about the topic. Taylor also includes questions for parents to ask their children, plus the Bible verse it's all based on. For example, for the letter "d" we read: "D is for Doing What needs to be done. So please do it cheerfully; Then you'll have fun."Taylor asks us to notice the children in the accompanying illustration: What are they doing for others? he asks. Then we read: "We should treat others just as we want them to treat us. God is happy when we do helpful and kind things for one another." Questions for parents to ask follow: "What is the duck doing? How are the children doing kind things for one another? Tell about each one. What kind thing could you do to help someone?"Then in large letters, the page ends with: "Do for other what you want them to do for you. Matthew 7:12."The new edition also has bright, colorful, fun illustrations by Andrea Petrlik Huseinovic that are far superior to the book's original illustrations, showing people of many skin colors doing the things children do each day. What I Like: I love the fact that Taylor wasn't afraid to share strong biblical principles (and Bible verses) with very young children. Even toddlers can sit through these brief devotionals. And whereas many modern writers would be afraid they were preaching to children, Taylor doesn't mind telling children exactly what is expected of them. What I Dislike: Nothing.Overall Rating: Excellent.Kristina SeleshankoManaging EditorChristian Children's Book Review

My 3 year old loves her ABC book! we've been using this lots as we go over letters of the alphabet. The pictures are bright and eye catching for children. The questions are simple and easy to answer even for young kids. Each letter is represented through out the page. She loved finding the Airplanes, Ark, Acorn, Apples, Letter Aa's and much more!

I really like this book!If you read my reviews you know that I don't often begin with that statement. In fact my average rating is only a 3.34 and that is on books that I have deemed "worthy" of my reading time!I wasn't sure what to expect when I sent for this book through Tyndale's Blogger Review program, but it has exceeded my expectations. Each spread starts with a letter of the alphabet and then a short Biblical concept follows along with a verse and some brief narration. The second page in the spread is a bright picture full of action for kids to enjoy looking at.I like how this book can be well used with a variety of ages in a mixed group. I have a 6, 4, & 2 year old and each one can enjoy this book. My 6 year old gets most of it and my 2 year old grasps bits and pieces with my 4 year old falling in the middle of that. Both Kenneth N. Taylor and Andrea Petrlik Huseinovic have used their talent and abilities to give us parents, and grandparents, a wonderful bed time, or anytime, book to use in the nurturing of our children in the Word of God.The questions on each page my challenge not only your children, but your own heart as well.Enjoy!
