Facing the Truth About Our Deepest Desires is the subtitle to the book. Author Dee Brestin has written another great book to help women in their relationship with the Lord and themselves.
Do you long to be loved? Do you feel unloved? Reading this book will show you that those desires are good but need to be directed at the Lord and not to things on this earth. The author stresses that trying to find your happiness by filling your life with things of the earth will only make the longing stronger. By direction your longings to the Lord, He will fulfill those needs with His love.
I gave this book 4/5 stars for a couple reasons. Where I did like the writing and found the author to be very open I just did not feel any connection. I felt more preached to then talked to. I do however, think the book is helpful and would recommend it to a friend who was having issues of feeling unloved or alone.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read.

Review 2 for Idol Lies: Facing the Truth About Our Deepest Desires - eBook
I have read many Christian books for women and not one has been as life changing as Idol Lies. One thing that sets Dee’s book apart from the others is her honest humility in sharing her own struggles. From page one, you are drawn in to her personal journey. She introduces women with struggles we can all relate to. But most importantly, with empathy and grounded biblical insight, she guides readers to the Truth that sets us free. Idol Lies aids the reader in identifying the hidden idols that we have become so comfortable with we don’t even recognize as idols. She helps us see how these idols are not the “friends” to our soul we think they are, but are hindrances to the life we were created for. Dee points readers to the path of freedom and living life for our One True Love. This book shook up my heart and challenged my thinking, and ultimately filled me with hope and a deeper love for Christ.

Review 3 for Idol Lies: Facing the Truth About Our Deepest Desires - eBook
This book promises to be ground breaking for those wishing to walk closely with God. It has been my great blessing to study this subject with Dee on her blog. What I came to understand is that idolatry is an insidious wedge between myself and God. It blocked intimacy because I depended on idols for what I should have been receiving from God. They ruled my life until Dee helped me to see them. As we worked through the scriptures I began to see how I had believed the lies promised by idols and been left bankrupt by them. Fear is another result of idolatry because idols will always let us down, they have taught us that, but Jesus never fails. My life has been changed by greater intimacy with God and freedom from fear.

As a pastor's wife who has recently been through some very difficult times in the ministry, God brought me to a pilot study with Dee Brestin for Idol Lies. How thankful I am! God has opened my eyes to hidden sins and desires and is freeing me from their grip. Idol Lies is an excellent study which touches on heart issues common for every woman. If you are ready for God to do a deep work of transformation in you, then Idol Lies is a must read. Your eyes will be lifted to focus on Christ and your heart will begin seeking refuge in Him alone.

Review 5 for Idol Lies: Facing the Truth About Our Deepest Desires - eBook
I took part in Dee's online test study of " Idol Lies".
I have known the Lord for over twenty years and I was going through a rough season in my life with an overwhelming amount of stress and felt like I was drowning. The vibrant intimacy I once had with God grew shallow. What compounded this was the lack of deep, Biblical community in my life-the masks were on and it was hard to be vulnerable. I was participating in many other studies, but most were lighter and were focused on us rather than on Christ-you can knock depression, lose weight, etc. if you just apply God's word to your life. I came away ‘ready to walk in faith’ but ultimately ended up in the same hole.
I heard Dee Brestin was a deeper Bible teacher, so I went to her blog looking for a Bible Study I could purchase. I found she has an online Bible Study so I began to participate as Dee began her test study on "Idol Lies".
At first I didn't think idolatry was an issue with me because I am a believer but as soon as Dee admitted she struggled with idolatry in her relationships I thought, "could this be what is hindering me from that deep intimacy with Him?"
As we delved into "Idol Lies" the Lord began quickening my heart in His Word. (Dee really delves deeply into Scripture). Over time I saw His Holiness, His Power, and His deep love for me in ways I hadn't before. I saw in depth what He gave up to go to the cross for me so that I could be His. I soon realized I had believed the lie that God wasn't enough and I was running to food for comfort instead of running to God-I held up a worthless 'thing' as more ultimate than Him, the One who gave up everything for me. This compelled me to turn. Through Dee's book, over time, God began to break down the walls between us, and He rescued me from the downward spiral I was on. My intimacy with God has been restored.
This book truly is life changing. I have read it three times and each time it doesn't get old! I find new layers of things I didn't see before. Once I pick it up, I can't stop reading it- it is that kind of book! I highly recommend this book and the study that comes with it-do the study!! I have seen lives truly change. I found in doing this study with other women that as our intimacy deepened with God, the masks came off and our fellowship grew deeper as well.
