The material under each listing is not overly technical. The scholars chosen to write each article are of the highest caliber. I particularly like the feature of each listing is in Hebrew and Greek.

I am a Seminarian at Christian Theological Seminary currently enrolled in an Exegesis of Mark course. The syllabus requires that we have a good bible dictionary. Since I already own the New Interperters Bible, I decided to try the New Interperters Dictionary of the Bible. Between the two, I have not been let down. Readable, easily navigated, and perfect for a seminarian. Would make a great Christmas or birthday gift.

This is my favorite dictionary/encyclopedia set to use. It was always the first set I'd go to while doing any sort of study in school, and I'm excited to add it to my own collection. I also own the Zondervan Encyclopedia of the Bible and the International Standard Encyclopedia of the Bible. I use both often, but still prefer this New Interpreter's Dictionary set. It is an incredible reference material at an UNBEATABLE price! Well worth the cost.

The New Interpreter's Dictionary appears to be newly written rather than just an update of the original ID. The articles I have read so far are more readable and don't feel as academic, while at the same time being up-to-date. The type is also more readable than the type in the original. There are not nearly as many illustrations in the NID, which in some cases is unfortunate. For this reason I am keeping the old ID and use it along side the NID. I am enjoying using the NID in my daily Bible study and preparation for teaching Sunday School.

This resource in great. More encyclopedia than dictionary, it addresses all scripture characters and topics, plus many others useful for shedding light on most any issue. And, the contributors are the best of the best across a broad theological spectrum. Thus, what one receives is sober, even handed, and up-to-date scholarship from volume to volume and cover to cover. (Likely, only an extremist would not be satisfied). Moreover, the type is large and clear and there is a pronunciation key for every word. Bottom line: This set is itself a significant theological library and should prove to be the first resource one turns to for most any topic. And I can say this as one who already possessed an extensive theological library, including multiple dictionaries such as the previous New Interpreter's, the Oxford, the Penguin, the Harper-Collins, the Holman, and the New Bible.
