My children aren't as strong willed as the children described in the book, however, it is simply an excellent source for understanding your children.

This is a great tool in sharpening parenting skills though better understanding of why kids are the way they are. It also helps the parent see strengths and weaknesses in the way they have been parenting, in what has and has not been working. This isen't a cure all, but is a great help, and confidence booster for the parent.

This was my first Dr. Dobson book and I really enjoyed it. So much of the book made sense and I agreed with.

First off, this book has been a godsend to my wife and I. We were at the end of our rope, and this book has done a great job of showing us that we are not alone, and helping us take steps to correct our son's behavior.
The eBook process, however, was terrible. At first I couldn't even find where to download the book. When I finally did find it, I ran into more trouble. I am a Mac user, and I wanted to transfer the book to my Nook reader. Since the book is tied to Adobe digital rights management, and they don't provide a Mac app, it was impossible. I had to start up Parallels and boot a Windows virtual machine in order to install the Adobe software. Once there, I found out that there are a limited number of times that I can transfer the book to a new machine. If I change computers a few times in the next 5 years or so, I may lose access to the book. This is a terrible user experience, and should most definitely be avoided. I would recommend against buying the eBook because the digital rights management attached to it make it a terrible experience.

I started really looking forward to reading this book, but was very disappointed at the time spent on talking about dogs not knowing who the boss was. I think that most of the discussion about the problem children did not stem from a lack of children knowing who the boss was but from a lack of understanding on the parents part. Check out Green instead.

I have 2 strong-willed children in my home, so when I heard about this book, I new I needed to read it. I regularly listen to Dr. James Dobson's sermons on the radio and hold a lot of respect for him, and I think that his book is very encouraging to other parents in my shoes. It is important to me that I deal with my children in a way that is encouraging to them and pleasing to God, and this book has given me a lot of inspring tools to do that.

I highly recommend this book to all parents.
The book was well written and easy to read, I found it hard to put down.
The book gave wonderful understanding on the subject and practical ideas of how to change the situation it also encouraged me that if I stayed consistant that it would get better (and after time it did!). When I applied the lessons I learned from reading the book I actually became a better parent to my very strong willed child.
I first read the book 16 years ago when it was recommended to me by a friend, the new book has added information and is just a good, even better. I am passing this book on to another friend with small children.

When my oldest son started exhibiting very strong willed traits, I read this book at least once a year every year until he was 16 years old. It was such a valuabale tool. Now, as I see my young grandchildren also showing their strong wills, I wanted to get the book for their parents. I was very happy to see that it had been updated to meet the challenges of the "new strong willed" child.

Good advice with humor and above all compassion for parents and children. Specific advice for every age group from birth to adolescence. Enjoyed the real life stories and questions from other parents.

Someone needs to teach Mr. Dobson a lesson or two about child abuse. He believe that the will of a child must be broken and made to conform with the will of the parent. He recommends physical punishment "of sufficient magnitude to cause genuine tears." After this sadistic display of Christian manliness, he then recommends that you fold the child into your loving arms. This is psychopathology, not pedagogy.

This book helped me deal with my little boy who just has too many of his own thoughts. It helped me control him much more without breaking him in too much, just below the breaking point. Often I would find him asking disconcerting questions, some even concerning evil-ution of all things! I do my best to combat what the public school curriculum trys to smash in his fragile head with materials likes these. Thank you Dr. Dobson!

This book a most valuable tool for raising children with hearts towards the Lord. The book talks about getting to the heart of the matter by understanding the condition of a child's heart instead of ONLY disciplining the child for their behavior.
