How would you like to truly be friends with Jesus? That's right--what would that be like? This is a simply written book, not overly theological, but written in a way that everyone can easily understand. Honestly, there is not a whole lot to say except that this is written by a golfer who put this idea to the test. And it is easier than you might realize.
All too often, Christians tend to see God like their earthly father. If they had a bad earthly father, they may see God in the same way. Nothing could be further from the truth. Pick up this easy-to-read book today, and you just might find that your spiritual life has changed forever!
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

I picked this book because it was written by Wally Armstrong. I'm not really into golf but I work with a bunch of men who are and I actually know who Wally Armstrong is. Cool! This is a small easy to read book where Wally talks about reaching out and talking to Jesus as a friend. As if he is there with you everyday and you can see him (although he does explain that you should do what is comfortable for you). He uses his own experiences in his Christian life to show how this could work for you and how it drew him closer to God. Wally also describes how this change helped him to become less about doing the actions and "pleasing" God and more about having an intimate relationship with Jesus.
I really enjoyed the book because Wally speaks to you and explains things in a common way. The book is not overly theological. What was great is that it is in a way a self-help book but it also is quick and to the point. I do honestly believe that I have already been doing these things. However, what Wally did inspire in me is to speak with Jesus as a friend more regularly, regardless of how I'm feeling, and to make this a habit as opposed to an on-again, off-again, only when I'm feeling great relationship. One thing I have to give Wally kudos for is having the foresight to let you know that you may or may not have an emotional response to this interaction with Jesus. I appreciate that as my belief is that sometimes you may have an emotional response and sometimes not. It doesn't mean you are more or less closer to God.
This book would make a great gift. Think stocking stuffer for Christmas.

Wally Armstrong has presented a beautiful insight into his personal relationship with Christ.
I especially loved the story of the old Scotchman, he had a chair in his room just for Christ to sit it. It reminded him to keep Christ close and have ongoing conversations with him. When he passed away his hand was on the chair....he traveled along with Jesus! There are many pictures of this empty chair throughout the book. A reminder to keep the conversations going.
I think maybe the Amish or Amish Woman wearing their reminder of a prayer cap is an excellent reminder...keep talking to God.
This book is a good reminder that our Lord is looking at us as Friends...he gave us his ultimate gift. The Author is sharing a wonderful gift with us. Enjoy, and savor.

Wally Armstrong in his new book “Practicing the Presence of Jesus” published by Summerside Press shows us how to have a daily, personal relationship with Jesus.
Experience the Gift of His Friendship
Do you want to experience Jesus as real? When we look at Jesus’ life on earth, we see Him calling people to simply know Him. He made no demand on them to believe theological propositions. “Follow me” was the invitation which they accepted. They got to know and communicate with the real person. There is a big difference between believing something is true and experiencing it as real. This is the story of how Wally Armstrong learned to communicate with the real person of Jesus in his everyday life. Armstrong experiences Jesus up close and personal and introduces readers to the same experience. In a conversational manner, he explores what it is like to have a relationship with Jesus as if He is sitting right there next to us. He keeps an empty chair ready and imagines Jesus sitting beside him as they talk.
Jesus said, “I am with you always.” That is a very comforting verse however they are words that we are not always aware of. There is a difference between knowing Jesus is with us and being aware that Jesus is with us. What do I mean? Let me put it like this. No matter where you live you have a Kitchen. It is always there. Now, suppose, you are in your Living Room intensely focused on watching your game on the TV. The Kitchen is still there but you are not aware of it as your entire focus is on the game. Commercial comes on, you want a snack, now all of a sudden you are aware of the presence of the Kitchen. As the verse tells us Jesus is always with us however a lot of times our focus is not on Him and we are not aware of His presence. Wally Armstrong has given us a little book that helps us focus our attention on Jesus so that we are aware of His presence all the time.
Meet Wally: Wally Armstrong is a professional golfer, teacher and dynamic life coach who has competed in over 300 PGA Tour events, including the British Open, the US Open, and the Masters, and was awarded a lifetime membership in the Tour. In his first Masters appearance, Wally finished in fifth place, setting a rookie record for the lowest tournament score of eight under par. As a golf instructor and clinician, Armstrong has taught golf all over the world and has produced more than twenty golf instructional videos and DVDs covering every area of the golf game. He is the author of seven books, including the bestselling In His Grip (with Jim Sheard and Billy Graham) and The Mulligan (with Ken Blanchard). He resides in Maitland, Florida, and has been married to his wife, Debbie, for forty-one years. Together, they have three children and seven grandchildren. Armstrong invites readers to visit his website, oldprobooks, for more insights about the wonderful opportunity each of us has to know Jesus as the real person that he is.

Jesus Christ is the greatest thing that could ever happen to you. Yet there is a gift often laid aside by modern Christians – the gift of the offer from Jesus to become his friend.
Perhaps you are like Wally, trying in his own strength to be more Christlike. He realized one day that Jesus was beside him offering the transforming gift of friendship.
“We have missed the gift of simple friendship, even though that friendship was the first thing Jesus offered his disciples before he ever taught them to minister or schooled them in theology.” (30)
Wally says this important step of accepting Jesus as friend is the foundation of discipleship. He refers to the impact of Weatherhead's book, The Transforming Friendship.
Wally writes about the “exercise of imagination” by which one may “grow into a faith in Christ's intimate presence” that is “strong and unshakable.” (38) He envisioned Jesus beside him. He began to read the Bible with Jesus sitting beside him. It may seem awkward at first, Wally admits, but the more you envision Jesus the more natural the friendship becomes.
Wally shares his own journey, his ups and downs in living in friendship with Jesus. He waited nine years to write this book. He wanted to make sure what he was experiencing was consisten with the Scripture and the testimonies of other believers. He points out that he means no irreverence to Jesus and does not want to downplay Jesus, King and Ruler of the universe. (84)
Jesus does want to speak to you, Wally says. “We simply need to take the time to listen.” (44) He invites you to participate in cultivating a faith-filled imagination. “There is always more to see and more to learn of Jesus.” (81)
I received a complimentary galley from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

The concept of Wally Armstrong’s “Practicing the Presence of Jesus” resonated with me. Visualizing Jesus as a present day mentor, confidant, and friend has often been a bit illusive for me. Like Wally I found myself intrigued by the idea of Jesus’ presence in the world today in the same way he walked with the disciples over 2,000 years ago.
Wally was impressed Leslie Weatherhead in his book “The Transforming Friendship,” he went on to discover the incredible gift of friendship with Jesus.
He describes how he began to practice His presence, how he allowed Jesus to transform his heart and life. He learned to experience encounters which led to a unique interactive relationship with Jesus.
Step by Step Wally invites the reader how to discover, how to meet, and walk, in a friendship with Jesus. Wally’s writing is engaging and inspiring, demonstrating a transparency that authenticates the reality of his spiritual journey. Becoming a follower and friend of Jesus is intentional, interactive, and dynamic.
“Practicing the Presence of Jesus” is for anyone seeking to know God, desiring personal revival and freedom, for anyone with a deep spiritual hunger to know Jesus in a more intimate relational companionship.
A complimentary copy of this book was provided for review purposes. The opinions expressed are my own.
