Customer Reviews for Hendrickson Publishers Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History

Hendrickson Publishers Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History

Eusebius' Ecclesiastical History is one of the classics of early Christianity and of equal stature with the works of Flavius Josephus. Eusebius chronicles the events of the first three centuries of the Christian Church in such a way as to record a vast number of vital facts about early Christianity that can be learned from no other ancient source. When Eusebius (c. A.D. 260-340) wrote his Ecclesiastical History, his vital concern was to record facts before they disappeared and before eyewitnesses were killed and libraries were burned and destroyed in persecutions by Rome. He faithfully transcribed the most important existing documents of his day so that future generations would have a collection of factual data to interpret. Thus Eusebius richly deserves the title "Father of Church History."

Some real unexpected perspectives such as how different they interpreted revelations relative to modern protestantism and on the politics and eventual unbelievable persecution of the church. Intense read for the church history buff.

There's no doubt about it, you can not be a serious student of Christian history if you don't have this book, and Josephus, in your library. It's very important that we not forget the beginnings of Christianity, all that the early church went through is an inspiration to our faith today. This book is also a beautiful book, it looks great on bookshelf. The price was a steal....

Outstanding read! I found it very difficult putting this book down. while reading I was astonished with all the information that we church goers are never told about. The early church fathers left no stone unturned. Why aren't these 21st century preachers preaching this information? I also became afraid after I read of the famines, tortures, and the swift justice that Yahweh rendered to the nation that killed His only begotten Son.Buy this book!

Eusebius gives us a great account of the period of the Early Church. There is even an account of the Emperor Constantine during the Council of Nicaea in AD 325. This account was very compelling; compelling enough to buy the book. This is a book that is a MUST for any Church History aficionado.

Superb. A real find. I would happily recommend this to anyone who wants to get a better picture of the early church. It has some fascinating items in it, in particular an letter apparently handwritten by the Lord himself. Nicely laid out and easy to read.
