We just started homeschooling my third grader in third grade. He was a reluctant writer, so we decided to begin at level two. It was the right choice. He had zero experience with dictation or copywork prior to this. In just a few weeks, I've seen a lot of improvement in his ability to narrate back in complete sentences, remember a dictation sentence, and do copywork. He was a lazy, hurried writer before--with illegible writing. For whatever reason, he is quite proud of his work--so spends the time to ensure that his handwriting looks good. It's been a great choice for our family. I think the push to make kids write paragraphs in Kindy....and rush to various types of writing without learning what good writing looks like is a mistake. I feel confident that going through this program through fifth grade for us, and then perhaps going on to IEW is the right choice for our family.

Teaching a child with dyslexia and this book makes it so much easier. It is different from the other books that we have used (vocabulary, grammar, etc...).

My son likes listening to the short story "clips". I like how the skills are presented and plan to use book 2 in another year.

Writing With Ease Work Book: Level 2 is a companion to Bauer's text "Writing With Ease: Strong Fundamentals." Please see my review of "Writing With Ease: Strong Fundamentals" for a comprehensive overview of the curriculum.

Writing With Ease: Work Book Level 2 is arranged according to a thirty-six week schedule.

Each week consists of the following components:

    Day 1

    Narration Exercise

    (Identifying central ideas and actions.)

    Day 2

    Copy work Exercise

Focus (This indicated the fundamentals of grammar being taught within the lesson.)

    Day 3

    The First Dictation Exercise

    Day 4

    Narration Exercise and Dictation

(Identifying the central narrative in a story or passage. Identifying the central details in a description.)

    End of the Year Evaluation

Included in the work book are a list of literature reading selections and consumable student pages.

Overall we have been pleased with Ms. Bauer's logical approach to writing instruction, and look forward to utilizing "Writing With Ease Work Book: Level 3."

We are only on week 7, but my 2nd grade daughter loves this program. Before we found this book, she would complain every time I mentioned the word writing. Now she happily pulls this book out. I love the gentle approach to writing (with a bit of grammar added as well). She enjoys the narratives so much that we have had to check several of the titles out from the library. I wish I had found this writing program sooner!
