Crossway Books & Bibles Strangers & Pilgrims, Homestead Series #1

Meet the Bowers, an unusual pioneer family. Contrary to tradition, they move east to farm in Nebraska. Instead of Matthew working the land, his wife, Lissa, rigs the team and plows the soil. Their 17-year-old daughter, Jolie, has her hands full taking care of her siblings---and fighting off potential suitors. The Bowers may be unconventional, but their warmth and hospitality will win your heart! 304 pages, softcover from Crossway Books.

This book is written in a conversational form, which hinders me from following the story line. I much prefer a narrative style. The story is light-hearted with humorous moments, which made me chuckle. However, it is written in a simplistic manner, and I tended to skim many of the pages because it was unnecessary to read all the conversations in order to follow the story. Not my favorite kind of book!

Stephen Bly books are hilarious, full of adventure, and thoroughly engaging. I began reading them to my husband for fun, and we laughed so often, that the kids started listening, too. Now I read them for devotions, because not only are they HUGE fun, they also teach Bible truths as part of everyday life. I would buy every one of his books you sell--and I'm working on that. If you like Westerns, a la Louis L'Amour (lots of action), you'll love these, and if you HATE Westerns, I think you will still like these, because they are just plain great reading, aloud or alone.

All three in this series were very entertaining.... and kept me laughing.. Now we know that some of the incidences that happened in this series were next to impossible, but very fun reading anyway.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and Stephen Bly's writing style. He made me laugh so much that it was a wonderful experience to read the book.He also made each character worth while even though there were certain character flaws that were obvious but in this family each member is loved and appreciated for being a child of God. It was wonderful the way each character is not critiqued but accepted. I love his style and will read more of his books.
