Charlotte starts over in Cheyenne, and runs a small dress shop. Charlotte is hiding from the infamous Barron, who believes that she is in possession of stolen goods. Barrett has decided to run for a public office, once Wyoming becomes a state, but in order to promote his image as a family man he needs a wife.
Can Charlotte keep her son, and her heart, safe?
Amanda Cabot has written a wonderfully engaging tale, full of mystery, romance, and many plot twists, that keep the pages turning! I was so happy to read Charlotte's story after reading the first book in the series, though this novel can be completely stand alone.
Ms. Cabot does an excellent job of representing a young Wyoming, before statehood. And I love Ms. Cabot writes about the wonderful state where she resides, and I could tell that she put some time into the research to make sure the facts were accurate.
Overall, and excellent read that I thoroughly enjoyed. The characters were well developed and interacted naturally and realistically. A book that I highly recommend!

I met Charlotte while reading Summer of Promise, the first book in Cabot's Westward Winds series. Charlotte dealt with disappointment, disillusionment, and the death of her husband. A resourceful widow determined to make a new life for her young son, Charlotte has moved to Cheyenne and put her skills to work as a dressmaker, keeping her questionable past a secret. Enter Barrett Landry, a man of integrity being pushed into politics--as well as marriage to a woman his sponsors believe will improve his chances of being elected.
The fun begins when Barrett meets Charlotte. The two form a fast friendship. Duty-bound to marry the woman handpicked for him, Barrett fights his feelings for Charlotte. Knowing her past could destroy his chances of being elected, Charlotte denies her attraction and aides him in his plans to propose to the woman who could further his career. Despite their best efforts, circumstances push Barrett and Charlotte together as they're forced to deal with her well-kept secret, one that tests their love and could threaten their very lives.
I enjoyed the interplay between Charlotte and Barrett, two well-intentioned, honorable people torn between doing what's right and following their hearts. Each is willing to sacrifice happiness for the sake of the other. Charlotte exhibits strength, courage, and determination. Barrett is honest, compassionate, and principled--traits that serve him well in life but could spell his ruin in the political realm. Watching these two wrestle with the challenges they face makes for a moving read. Add the element of mystery--and a mysterious stranger--and things get even more exciting.
When I'm in the mood for a sweet story with well-crafted characters I'm sure to like, I know Amanda Cabot will deliver. That's certainly the case with Waiting for Spring. Although meeting Charlotte in the first book of the series could add to your enjoyment, it's not necessary to have read it in order to enjoy the second in the series.

Amanda Cabot's second book in the Westward Winds series, "Waiting for Spring", can be read as a wonderfully engaging stand-alone novel. I have not read the first book of this series and felt neither lost, nor unsatisfied.
Both the male and female leads are well-developed and unique characters I was both rooting for, and frustrated with for much of the book. (Will these two ever figure out they are meant for each other?)
Amanda has also brilliantly developed a bad guy you slowly love to hate. He starts off seeming only slightly untrustworthy ... and eventually his true nature leaves you squirming with displeasure -- earnestly turning pages to learn how his bad intentions will affect the hero and heroine.
A wonderful story -- based in the early years of Cheyenne, Wyoming. It definitely makes it onto my favorites list for the year.

I just finished reading, "Waiting for Spring", and had to share my thoughts right away.
What a delightful read! I loved this story of Charlotte Harding, a widow who has found a new life in Cheyenne Wyoming in spite of fears that a madman called the Baron is out to kill her. She has given up hope of ever marrying, believing her past and a blind son will keep any suitors at arms distance. Barrett Landry is not put off by either and is swept away by Charlotte's goodness, strength and courage. I loved watching these two discover their love for one another.
One of the things I admire about Amanda's writing is the accurate historical details. They bring the story to life and while I'm being entertained I'm also learning. Thank you, Amanda.

Widowed Charlotte took her young son to Cheyenne where she is now running a successful dress-making business, and life is looking up. But she is still hiding parts of her story, and lives in fear of a notorious killer known only as “the Baron.” The Baron apparently believes that Charlotte’s deceased husband found the hidden money from a huge train heist, and he’ll kill to get it. Barrett Landry is a successful cattle baron and would-be Senator; when his political advisors tell him to choose a wife, he looks to Miriam, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy and influential man. Why then does he so enjoy the company of Charlotte, Miriam’s friend and dressmaker?
Although Waiting for Spring is book 2 of a trilogy, it is an excellent stand-alone novel. Set in Cheyenne, a prosperous city, in the days before Wyoming achieves statehood, the wealth of detail provided contributes to the story. From the descriptions of the beautiful dresses, the high-styled social occasions, to the harder side of living and the difficulties associated with cattle ranching in a hard winter, Amanda Cabot does an amazing job of painting the scene so that you can really feel the story. Besides the main characters, many others are portrayed, giving an excellent picture of the community. The individuals are likable and human, and the story is engrossing.
I enjoy stories set in the Old West, so I expected to enjoy Waiting for Spring, but I found it to be deeper and fuller than anticipated. There were many secrets being held, and intrigue, even suspense was interwoven into the plot. I appreciated how the faith of the main characters was mingled though their lives and choices. Altogether, a very enjoyable book!
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my fair and honest review.

Charlotte Harding is the dressmaker/proprietor of Elan, the most fashionable shop in 1880’s Cheyenne, Wyoming. She is also the widow of First Lieutenant Jeffrey Crowley who died a year ago in mysterious circumstances, and left her running in fear of the unknown ‘baron’ who was responsible for his death. Her only wish is to live a quiet life and protect her blind son with the help of her housekeeper, Gwen Amos.
Barrett Landry is a successful ranch owner who is considering entering politics, but his advisors, Richard Eberhart and Warren Duncan, tell him he needs a wife. He has found the perfect candidate: Miriam Taggert, the daughter of a prominent local businessman. Although Miriam would be the perfect wife, he’s not in love with her and he can’t help being attracted to her dressmaker…
I really enjoyed Waiting for Spring, and didn’t miss anything by not having read the first book in the series, Summer of Promise. This is frontier fiction at its best, with a strong hero, a likeable heroine who has to come to terms with the fact that hiding her history means she is living a lie, and a strong cast of supporting characters, particularly Gwen, Miriam and David (Charlotte’s blind son). The Christian elements are present but not overwhelming, and there was just the right mix of romance and suspense, and (almost) everyone gets what they deserve. Amanda Cabot at her best.

Amanda Cabot always weaves interesting historical information through her romances. This time she enlightens us to the risks of cattle ranching as well as a good insight into the fashion of the times. The characters are all interesting and their background is woven in through bits and pieces so we understand their motivations and feelings. The heroine is delightful as we see so many aspects to her as dressmaker, mother, friend and I especially appreciated her desire to help less fortunate women anonymously.

This second story in the Westward Winds series - Waiting for Spring - takes place in Cheyenne, Wyoming, during the fall-winter-spring of 1886-87. Charlotte Harding is a beautiful young widow with a very young son, David, and very few resources of her own. She is intent on creating a new life for herself and her child after her husband was killed in Fort Laramie, and the killer would be seeking her for the “fortune” she must have acquired from the unscrupulous dealings of her late husband and a man called “The Baron.” Charlotte has no idea what or where this “fortune” may be but is running for her life and trying to be very inconspicuous in her new setting of Cheyenne.
Charlotte manages only enough financial resources to buy a small building where she sets up a very lovely dress-making shop. She is an expert seamstress and soon has eager customers to support her business. She is fortunate to meet another widow, Gwen, who has a young daughter, and in return for Gwen providing care for both children and maintaining their upstairs apartment, Charlotte is able to provide for all of them with her dressmaking skills.
Charlotte’s young son is blind from birth, and her huge concern is giving him the very best of care and protection during a time when people nearly automatically put such handicapped children into an asylum for life. She has determined never to do that and to do her very best to educate him and help him to become independent.
The book refers to much background from the first title in this series (not read by this reviewer) and some of the mysteries of the past are only slowly revealed.
Charlotte cultivates some special friends, Mariam (the daughter of the town’s newspaper publisher) and Marian’s beau, Barrett Landry. This becomes an interesting story of misplaced love and awkward relationships, career intentions, disappointments, and expectations.
Charlotte’s quotation at beginning and end of this story is, “We can’t change the past, but if we make the present the best it can be, we can influence the future. Whatever we choose to do with our lives should be done with that in mind."
The attraction between Charlotte and Barrett is mutual, though both hide it in order to spare Mariam. There are some great surprises in this book and some very scary moments as “The Baron” discovers who Charlotte really is and becomes very serious in his quest to find her “fortune.”
Throughout the story, seeking guidance of the Lord is paramount and as each person’s story becomes known, it is easy to see how God’s hand is upon each one and His guidance is giving them strength and commitment to their individual futures. This is a lovely Christian novel with very appropriate romance scenes, nothing at all offensive. This is a great story and an interesting look at some serious social issues.

Charlotte fled with her baby to Cheyenne in hopes of safety, but never really feels totally safe. She did manage to build a successful business, but constantly worries about being found.
Barrett wants to be elected senator of Wyoming. He’s getting serious about popping the question to a society lady who’s father can help his political aspirations.
It’s neither safe for Charlotte and her special son nor expedient for Barrett, but the two of them are being drawn to each other.
Danger soon rides into town and tries to steal what happiness might be in store for the couple.
Ms Cabot has taken care of summer and spring in her Westward Winds series. I’m ready for fall and winter.

If you like historical fiction, especially set in the West, you will probably like Waiting for Spring by Amanda Cabot and is the second in the Westward Wind series. This book is set 1886 in the Wyoming Territory and is a story about an independent woman named Charlotte who is making a life for herself and son, in Cheyenne, working a dressmaker.
Waiting for Spring by Amanda Cabot
Charlotte has a secret though and had to tell some lies to keep her secret hidden. As you all know, secrets have a way of being discovered and as things start to unravel so do the lives of those around her. She also has something to fear but won’t allow herself to talk to anyone about it, even her family in another state.
Power, politics, social standing and money are not important to Charlotte, but they are to Barrett Landry, a wealthy cattle baron, who Charlotte fast becomes friends with.
This is another book where a sweet friendship develops into love but not without some bumps along the way, including a kidnapping! Not your typical courtship to say the least.
I loved Charlotte’s strength of character to overcome her past, her son’s disability and turn it all into something good.
Barrett Landry was a true gentleman and I loved how he eventually got around to wooing Charlotte and her son.
I found it ironic that Barrett eventually went back to doing what he left home to avoid. There’s something about our roots that can call us back to the very depths of that is familiar and comfortable; and find real happiness in the process.
Waiting for Spring was a sweet story in which Amanda captures the Wyoming Territory for it’s wealth, poverty and realities of being a cattle baron, shopkeeper and dressmaker. Not to mention the intriguing aspect of living among common criminals without even being aware.
This was what I consider a “candy” read. Easy, predictable and not very challenging. However, I liked the book, a candy read is the kind of book I like to read to relax without any heavy duty thinking and a way to spend a pleasurable time away from every day life and the stress that goes along with it.

Have you ever fallen in love with a cover? I sure have! And this new one by Amanda Cabot is a beautiful cover that I loved from the beginning. The lady on the front looks so regal and her dress is absolutely gorgeous! But the characters and the story inside were just as good as the cover.
The main character is Charlotte and Barrett, but there are many different characters who play a big part in the whole picture. I felt like Charlotte was a kindred spirit and the strength she possessed was something I can only strive for. Barrett was a good hero. Kind, charming, handsome and quite a politician. There is a part where I didn't like him, especially after the way he treated Charlotte at one point, but you see where he was coming from and how he was trying to protect her. You will fall in love with sweet Daniel and Rose, Gwen and Miriam, and even Harrison and Richard.
I found it quite interesting at the idea of fashion back then. The whole buying a dress from Paris, paying so much for a piece of clothing, etc. Charlotte's idea of making dresses for those who can't purchase them was a good extra. I found her idea of doing something that will help people an encouragement. We can do a lot of good in a community or in a family by helping out.
This is a book that brings you back to the 1800's and you will be immersed in the time period. Get the feel of walking down a dusty street and the time of robbers, old west, and a growing town with aspiring people. A story you will love!! Excellent plot and well written characters who jump out of the page at you!!

Amanda Cabot in her new book, “Waiting For Spring” Book Two in the Westward Winds series published by Revell takes us to Cheyenne, Wyoming Territory in 1886.
From the Back Cover: A new identity may protect her family–but can it protect her heart?
After the loss of her husband and the birth of her baby, Charlotte has had a long, hard year. But she can find no rest from the ghosts of the past and flees to Cheyenne to put the pieces of her life back together.
Wealthy cattle baron and political hopeful Barrett Landry must make a sensible match if he is to be elected senator of the soon-to-be state of Wyoming. He needs someone with connections. Someone without a past. Yet he can’t shake the feeling that Charlotte holds the key to his heart and his future.
Will Charlotte and Barrett find the courage to look love in the face? Or will their fears blot out any chance for happiness?
Drama, love, laughter, fear and faith are all skillfully woven together in ”Waiting For Spring”. And what characters Ms. Cabot has created. This time the focus is on Charlotte as she is attempting to re-start her life after the death of her husband and the birth of her son. Wyoming is soon to become a state and Barret Landry wants to be the first Senator so he needs to choose a political wife. However his heart is leaning towards Charlotte who really is not looking for a husband. On top of all of this there is mystery and suspense as there is the man Charlotte is running from who is tracking her down for money he thinks she has but does not. This book will keep you guessing and turning pages leaving chores unattended and it is so worth it. Ms. Cabot is an excellent writer and makes all her characters believable and you care deeply for them as she deftly unfolds the plot before us. Ms. Cabot has given us a nice sequel in this series and I am already looking forward to where she will take us in the next and last one.

Charlotte is on the run from an evil man known as the Barron. Her husband was killed and left her alone to have their son, David. In order to provide for him, she has opened a dress shop, and is great demand. One of her clients, Miriam, seem to also value her opinion.
Amanda Cabot has woven a wonderful picture of 1880's Cheyenne Wyoming Territory. This place is a booming town. Travel along with the pictures of beautiful mansions, lovely parks, restaurants, and country side. There is also danger lurking around the corner. Some of the people we meet are not really what they are portraying to be.
You will fall in love with the kindness, and love of others that some of these people are willing to give. Some really great friendships, and a bit of romance.
I could read more about these new friends, and hope you will enjoy this as much as I did.

Waiting for Spring has just a dabble of mystery, a wink of romance, and a touch of faith within its pages.
From page one I grew fond of Charlotte, a widow and mother of a blind year old son named David. Charlotte does what she deems best for her son at every turn, going as far as changing her identity to protect them. Her strength despite her fear is so honorable. She tends to David and protects him like a mother bear over her cub.
It took a few chapters but I did grow to like the male lead, Barrett Landry. His mother taught him to be a gentleman, though they were never rich, which made him honorable, respectable, and loyal. Over the course of the book he discovers what's really important to him and what isn't, a realization that saves him from a lot of heartbreak.
Amanda Cabot incorporates the right amount of mystery and romance for a good blend. Her main characters are strong, as is her villain. In some ways, I wish she had not revealed the villain as soon as she did but it worked out, in a sense, knowing as long as I-the reader-did. Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable read. :-)

Waiting for Spring
Westward Winds Book 2

Would spring ever come? Haven't you felt that way a time or two? I certainly have and I live in a southern state where winter is rarely harsh enough to keep me tucked away inside for days at a time. (I sometimes long for this. Except, in my dreams, I'm alone.)
Spring is a time of promise. The promise of all things new. In "Waiting for Spring", Amanda Cabot solidifies this fact. It's not a promise of growth in plants, which we expect from the season, but in people. New prospects. New life. New love.
But before we get to spring, we have to go through the drought that is called winter. Both Charlotte and Barrett experience this as life bombards them and makes spring look forever away.
"Waiting for Spring" was a pleasant read. I hate sometimes that I'm not flowery with words. I want to write a great review and when I sit down to type it out, the words escape me.
I can say, without reservation, that Amanda Cabot is definitely one of my favorite authors. I have read a number of her works, and have yet to find one that I have not enjoyed.
***I received this book from the publisher/author for purposes of review. The above is my honest opinion.***

As a widow, Charlotte Harding faces a daunting challenge. She’s hiding from the tainted legacy of her late husband, and caring for her young son on her own. She believes that by coming to Cheyenne, she’s successfully put the past behind her, although she’s troubled by the lies she’s had to tell to do so.
Barrett Landry is one of Cheyenne’s most influential cattle barons. He’s on the cusp of running for senator for the soon-to-be state of Wyoming. His political slogan is “Landry Never Lies.” One of the town’s most eligible young women is waiting to receive his proposal.
Yet once he meets Charlotte, he finds himself drawn to her ideals, as well as her beauty. She knows their match is impossible—her past would never stand up to political scrutiny. The hurdles the two of them face seem insurmountable.
Throw in a shadowy threat from Charlotte’s past, and the challenges of rearing her young son, and the reader wonders how Waiting for Spring will ever reach a satisfying conclusion.
I enjoyed Amanda Cabot’s careful crafting of this plot, as well as the authentic details of early Cheyenne. Waiting for Spring is an absorbing tale.
I recommend this book. If you haven’t read Summer of Promise, the first book in the Westward Winds series, you’ll enjoy that one as well, although it’s not necessary to read the books in order.
My thanks to the author and Revell for providing my review copy.
