First off, I want to thank Thomas Nelson and Colleen Coble for taking us back to Rock Harbor with Bree, Samson, and the rest of the family. I love this series and thoroughly enjoyed this installment.
Christmas is coming and although Bree and Kade are preparing for family to arrive their hearts are heavy. Bree like many women is struggling with infertility, which is weighing heavily on her heart as well as Kade’s. Things become more stressful when Lauri arrives home two weeks ahead of schedule and is being evasive on the reason why.
Even in this short novel Colleen Coble draws the reader quickly into the story. The mystery behind the Lauri’s behavior and her relationship with a young man killed in a parachuting accident will keep you guessing. It’s a feel good Christmas story.
As a fan of the Rock Harbor series and many of Colleen Coble’s other books the timeline of this one bugged me at first. But I quickly got over it and enjoyed the series. I hope we get the opportunity to see Bree, Kade, Samson and the rest of the family in future books.
I’d recommend this for anyone looking for a quick and touching Christmas story. I tend to enjoy reading a series in order but this would be a great introduction to Rock Harbor series.

Silent Night" by Colleen Coble is an epilogue of sorts to Coble’s "Rock Harbor Mysteries Series." I haven’t yet read that series, but recognized the main characters, Bree and Samson, from their appearance in "Tidewater Inn," the first book in Coble’s new series. Though I haven’t read the Rock Harbor series, this novella was a complete story all by itself. I never once felt lost, and, in the few cases when Coble referred to previous stories, she didn’t seem to give anything significant away. I’ll definitely want to go back and read those books someday.
In this very short story, Bree’s sister-in-law comes to visit a few weeks after a young woman goes missing and is presumed to be dead. On the day of Laurie’s arrival, a young man is killed in a parachute accident. While attempting search and rescue, Bree finds Laurie in the woods. As the investigation into the young man’s death reveals a connection to the missing woman, Bree becomes concerned about Laurie’s part in the two events.
I enjoyed reading this story, meeting Bree’s family and friends, and learning the truth about Laurie. If you’ve read the Rock Harbor series, you’ll want to read this novella to see what’s next for Samson and Bree. If you haven’t read the series, you still may enjoy this story. I most definitely did.

Christmas is that time of the year when I want to read a heartwarming story. But it is also a busy time of the year so a novella is great.
And Silent Night is a perfect choice.
We are back on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in Rock Harbor. Bree and Kade are getting their lighthouse home ready for holiday guests. But Lauri, the younger sister Kade has been watching over since their parents died, shows up two weeks early. Has she quit school?
Something strange is going on with Lauri. She claims she was supposed to meet a fellow she knows who was going to parachute on to a near by frozen lake. Except that he was found dead, having landed in trees.
To make matters worse, Bree is not feeling well. She is so tired all of the time.
This was a rewarding read. It's short. You can read it in an evening.
It is part of the Rock Harbor series. I have not read the series yet I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Coble gives enough back information that it is easy to pick right up in the story line.
Enjoy.
I received a complimentary egalley of this novella from the publisher for the purpose of this review.

Colleen Coble in her new E-book “Silent Night book coverSilent Night” Book Six in the Rock Harbor series published by Thomas Nelson takes us into the life of Bree Matthews and Samson, her search-and-rescue dog.
From the back cover: As Christmas day nears, Bree and her faithful search-and-rescue dog Samson follow the trail of a troubling mystery into the snowy forests of Rock Harbor.
Bree Matthews is preparing for Christmas guests, but her heart is reeling from the recent and tender loss of her unborn child. Her sister-in-law, Lauri, suddenly turns up on the doorstep of the lighthouse home Bree shares with her husband, Kade, in Rock Harbor. Secretive and withdrawn, Lauri seems curiously intent on discovering what happened to a parachuter who disappeared in the North Woods along Lake Superior’s icy shore.
As Bree and Samson, her search-and-rescue dog, plunge into the search, Bree wonders if Lauri may know more than she’s admitted about the parachuter. And then the clues lead them to the trail of a young woman whose family fears the worst about her disappearance.
Will the search on this snowy, silent night lead Bree and Samson to more than clues about the missing girl? And will Bree’s prayer for a baby ever be answered?
I made a mistake I have not read the previous five books in this Rock Harbor series, however, it is a mistake I intend to correct. Bree Matthews is search-and-rescue and she has Samson, her specially trained dog to help her. The minute I hear search-and-rescue I immediately feel the immediacy of the moment. Someone is missing, there is trouble involved and there is no time to waste. Colleen Coble knows exactly how to bring all of that to the story and more. Danger, suspense, mystery, a missing parachuter, family troubles and Christmas, “Silent Night” has it all. This is a fast-paced read that will keep you flipping pages to keep up with the story. Ms. Coble has done an outstanding job. I want to have more stories about Bree Matthews at Rock Harbor.

Silent Night – A Rock Harbor Christmas Novella by Colleen Coble
Bree Matthews and her faithful dog, Samson, solve mysteries in Rock Harbor. Her heart does not embrace Christmas and the preparations as she is still mourning the loss of her unborn child. She and her husband, Kade, have one son, but they wish that their family was larger. When Kade’s young sister, Lauri, appears on their doorstep, she seems to be hiding something, but Kade and Bree are not sure what that could be, given her tumultuous path. When a parachute dies near a nearby lake under mysterious circumstances, both Bree and Lauri show interest in solving the mystery.
This was my first time reading Coble’s series in Rock Harbor, and I enjoyed it. The mystery and the ending were a surprise for me, something that I appreciate in a work of fiction, especially a novella. One part of the ending was predictable, but given the short book, that was probably inevitable. I was disappointed when the story ended, as I had not realized it was a novella and was expecting a longer read. This book will influence me to seek out other Rock Harbor titles, although I probably would not purchase it on my own, due to its very short length.

Come back with me to Rock Harbor this Christmas
I have thoroughly enjoyed Colleen Coble's Rock Harbor Mystery series thus far, and this is no different. I admire authors who can write novellas, with the same depth to their characters, the same suspense and awesome climax we have come to expect from them, in the reduced variation of a short story. Although we return to Bree and Kade, and they feature largely in it, this story is really about Lauri, Kade's irresponsible sister. Join me in learning to know this young woman, who since she lost her parents which she was 15 years old has been rebelling against her brother's guidance. At 21, she has already had a child, who she gave up to loving parents closely connected to Bree and Kade. Now she wants to prove to them that she is maturing.
I enjoyed the escape of the book, into the hilly country around Lake Superior, but I loved the way Colleen showed how diligent and seriously Lauri tried to prove herself to her family and friends. I loved the way Lauri and the adoptive mother of her child handled the process of introducing Lauri, and in similar circumstances I would wish to see that happening in reality.

Colleen Coble is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Her books contain realistic places, characters and story lines that are guaranteed to keep you up well past your bedtime while you promise yourself just one more chapter...
"Silent Night" is one of those stories. A short novella that takes place around Christmastime, this story does not need the reader to have read the other books in the Rock Harbor series to enjoy and connect with the characters. I find it amazing that Colleen can have the reader become so involved within the span of a novella - it takes a gifted writer to accomplish that, and her gift shines with this story.
Bree Matthews is a very interesting character who's job is both heartbreaking and rewarding. She is quite realistic with her attitude towards her yearning for a special gift for her husband and her reaction to what he has asked of her. She is a character that I want to get to know much deeper. Her lovable character is responsible for me adding the Rock Harbor series to my TBR list!
This heartwarming and somewhat predictable novella is a must read for anyone who loves sappy yet mysterious Christmas stories. If you've never read a Colleen Coble story before, here's a great place to start!!
I received this book through the Booksneeze program. I was not required to write a positive review, but instead, one that gives my honest opinion.
