I found this book to be very easy to use, and great for relating to children of various ages, when talking about the advent season and the approach of Christmas. We have a range of ages, and the activities and questions were participatory for the 8-13 year old, but the 3 year old felt included and could contribute as well. On day when an activity is too much to pull off, the daily thought can be discussed and ponderd aloud during dinner or informal time around the table. I enjoyed teh content, as well as the peronal content it elicited from my children.

I loved Carol Garborg's ideas and insight on how to celebrate Advent as a family. My girls and I had fun doing the gelatin activity about patience a week before Advent--a good story and lesson to begin the season. I'm looking forward to enjoying more of the "Advent Adventures" with my kids as we celebrate the meaning of Christmas together.

I got this book last week and thought it would be a fun way to celebrate the season. My nine- and six-year-old daughters and I read through the first chapter together and now my kids are hooked! They loved the activitites and stories bring home the Christmas message in a new, fresh way. I highly recommend this book as a way to connect with your kids and teach them about the Greatest Story Ever Told.

I am a busy working mom of three young boys. I always want to do some kind of small "devotions" with my children, but never know where to start or what to do. This book is the perfect place to start. The activities you do, and the hands on examples that you use (shaking a soda bottle and letting it over-flow, for example) are easy for you to set up and a great way to help your children understand the concept you're talking about. Carol does a wonderful job of using every day items to explain some deep concepts. And not only that, they are fun to do as a family! My boys love the idea of having a birthday party for Jesus.
If you are looking for an easy, fun way to explain the birth of Christ to your children, the Family Book of Advent is an amazing resource!

Usually I dread the time of year when my son starts asking, "How long until Christmas?" It usually starts about now -- somehow timed perfectly with the arrival of the Target catalog. I love how this little book of fun around the true meaning of Christmas reminds me that the early anticipation of Christmas isn't something to squash or grumble about, but something to celebrate and enjoy along with my child. I have already moved the toy catalog to the trash (out of sight, out of mind) and plan to make the "Family Book of Advent" the resource we use this year to count down the days until Christmas. I have already read ahead through several of the activities, and I think it will redirect our whole family towards the deeper meaning of this season without eliminating any of the excitement!
