I ordered Horizons Phonics and Reading for 1st Grade, and I loved it! I felt it was a complete Language Arts curriculum, that incorporated all my daughter needed to know, and also had multiple opportunities for teaching writing. I was excited about moving her into the 2nd Grade book, thinking it would be much like the 1st Grade book, but I was very disappointed. I have had to supplement in basic grammar, writing, and even reading comprehension skills. If all you are looking for is a book that drills the phonics rules, then this will work great. But if you want more than that, be prepared to supplement!
