Customer Reviews for Christian Liberty Press Pearl Maiden

Christian Liberty Press Pearl Maiden

From Sir H. Rider Haggard, the author of the famous novel, King Solomon's Mines, comes this classic adventure of Miriam, a young Christian woman living in the Roman Empire during the first century after Christ, and Marcus, the Roman officer who desired to win her hand. As Miriam faces hardships and fiery trials, her faith is continually strengthened by the Lord. The historic events portrayed in Pearl Maiden culminate in the Roman siege and destruction of Jerusalem and its Temple in A.D. 70.

Now in a newly revised and updated Centennial Edition, Pearl Maiden continues to be a wonderful story of faith for modern readers, stirring events, captivating characters, and careful attention to historical detail are seamlessly blended here to produce a truly uplifting novel. Recommended for ages 12 and up.

A friend recommended this book to me and I found it to be a riveting story. A bit slow in the beginning, as you sort out the characters and get into the time period but Oh! so worth it. This book is a beautiful story for anyone, but especially for your daughters (not too young as it was a hard time period!), to encourage them to wait for God's best despite feelings and emotions.

Pearl Maiden is a tale of courage and bravery set in the faith-testing times during the destruction of Jerusalem and 70 A.D. Miriam's courage is sorely tried as she is mercilessly persecuted for her faith in Jesus. Her heart is also yearning for a man she can't marry because he isn't a Christian.A story which will enthrall and fascinate all ages.Though there is some violence this book is a must read for Christians and non-Christians alike. Two thumbs up for CLP and H. Rider Haggard!

Good historical novel for older young women. I definitely would not give this to ones under sixteen, though. Never to a twelve-year-old.

Pearl Maiden Brings to life a period of time which I have otherwise found dull. It reconstructs a clear view of the time, while keeping hold of your interest, and intriguing you with its wonderful combination of characters. The book has been enjoyed more by young female readers, but will entertain most. I give this book five stars.

I truly did find this book disgusting, and I'd like to know what you both saw in it.I see no potential in it at all, I would never intend to have any person read it, do to the stupidity and boredom that it would cause them.Don't waste your time reading it, it's a despicable book; just dirty pages filled with knowledge of things meant to be forgotten.

One of my favorite books of all time! "Pearl Maiden" is a book I would recommend to pretty much anybody. Lovely characters, sweet romance and enough adventure to keep me turning the pages. I have read this novel at least half a dozen times and still find it gripping. A timeless and inspiring saga by H. Rider Haggard...

Very excellent. As usual CLP comes through with quality at a great price! They have reprinted three quality novels from H. Rider Haggard enveloped in history. The moral content is extremely high. I found this one more to the liking of young ladies. This is the kind of literature our young people should be reading.
