Christian Liberty Press Lysbeth: A Tale of the Dutch

H. Rider Haggard, best known for his timeless classic King Solomon's Mines, recounts in this tale the inspiring story of Lysbeth, a young Dutch woman forced to endure perils and tribulations of the Spanish Occupation's yoke and the Inquisition of the 16th century. The momentous events of her life unfold against the turbulent backdrop of the struggle for Dutch independence, led by William the Silent.

This enduring story of faith, love, and hardship is now presented in a newly revised and updated version for modern readers. Intense action, virtuous romance and the abiding faith of the characters stand out from the pages of this unforgettable novel. Recommended for ages 12 and up.

Lysbeth was a very good book. There were a few cons though, which is why I am giving it a 4-star rating. The first part of it was weird, depressing, and slow-moving.I especially disliked that Dirk and Adrian died. Also, some of the characters such as Black Meg and Martha the Mare were freaky and unrealistic.Fortunately, the pros outnumber the cons.I loved the Christian history in this book.It very realistically portrays the Inquisition. It's hard to believe such cruelties were administered by the Roman Catholic Church.Though somewhat graphic in violence,I think this book shows how great a fight our country had to wage to gain the religious freedom we enjoy today. The characters were great and the story was enthralling and intriguing. It was also very clean except for a few times in which the Lord's name was used and I couldn't discern if it was used disrespectfully or if the person was talking to God.Overall,a sensational Christian novel.

Wonderful! CLP comes through again with great literature at a great bargain. This is one of three reprints of novels from this author. The historical settings are so realistic( the inquisition in this case) and the characters are true Christians. Buy all three!
