I've been using the NLT Parallel Study Bible for a couple years, but it's just too big to keep hauling to church. So, I ordered this Bible. I love it! It's perfect in every way - the paper is thick enough for me (I don't mark in my Bibles), the font size is more than sufficient, and the quality of construction is, well, perfect. I have no complaints whatsoever . . . about the Bible, that is. As for ChristianBook.com's shipping, well, that leaves a lot to be desired - I'm just glad my Bible came in a box of its own, otherwise I'm sure it would've gotten damaged. CB really ought to use boxes and packing peanuts instead of currogated paperboard stuff.

Hmmm. The NLT translation is popular for speaking to the heart, but the quality of publishing is not competitive with others. For example, the paper is so thin that a Zebrite highlighter will bleed through too much; the print is too light...lacking in ink saturation during the printing (probably to allow the paper to not show through the print on the other side.) The print is OK, but certainly not really large. The paper is darker than I would desire, probably also to allow thin paper without excessive bleed-through.

By comparison, the God's Word Personal Size Giant Print Bible in Duravella binding has outstanding paper, really big print, and the translation is a bit better at speaking to one's heart... all at virtually the same cost. For this reason, I would recommend the latter to someone buying a Bible. (the God's Word item mentioned is about a half inch thicker, just to mention...). Yes, the God's Word translation is less well known, but has a lot going for it. for accuracy, you will want to use something like a New American Standard Bible. I have almost every translation available, and I am currently going through the God's Word, for the above reasons.
