Customer Reviews for Baker Popular Survey of the Old Testament

Baker Popular Survey of the Old Testament

This survey is illustrated with black and white photos, charts, and maps. Best-selling author Dr. Norman Geisler writes in an easy, informal style allowing any Christian a resource to understand Old Testament people and events. Each Old Testament book is discussed, its cultural and historical background explained as well as its theme. Two introductory Christ-centered chapters (Christ: The Key to the Inspiration and Canonization of the Bible and Christ: The Key to the Interpretation of the Bible) lay the foundation for the four sections of the book.

Similar to my review of the NT version of this survey series.
Great work, but expected it to be a bit more in depth. However, sticks close to the content of the Bible with the right amount of secular parallel information. Would recommend it to anyone.

A very Christ-centered survey of the OT. Unique to it's kind in its comprehensive aspect of Christ centerness. An excellent survey. Geisler is an excellent writer, scholar, philosopher, and speaker. You will benefit greatly from his work.

A good introduction for those beginning to study the Old Testament. Geisler provides basic background information for each book (dating, authorship), then gives a summary breakdown of it. Has a few maps and tables which are helpful. For a more in depth Old Testament study get Gleason Archer's OT Survey.
