Customer Reviews for Love Comes to Paradise - eBook
Nora King, whom we met in the first New Beginnings book (Living in Harmony), has followed wild Elam Detweiler to Missouri. She finds the friendly Amish community a refreshing environment after the harsh Maine situation. She rooms with her sister’s sister-in-law, Emily, and works in Emily’s bakery. Nora also finds a new friend, Violet, who happens to be the minister’s daughter.
Nora realizes her Amish faith and life is important to her and she doesn’t want to stray, while Elam seems to be pushing to cut those ties. When another suitor appears, Nora feels at first feels torn between the two men. One treats her with kindness and respect, while the other foolishly pressures her to ignore her values. Will her reputation be ruined or will she find the match God intends for her?
As in the first book in the series, the theme of healing of past hurts and the opportunity to start over offers readers the chance to consider how to apply these lessons in their own lives. Trust also plays a vital role. I appreciate novels that make me think and grow.
Wow! Mary Ellis knocked one out of the park with this book! I could hardly put it down. Good thing it has just been a relaxing day around my house...perfect for reading. Love Comes to Paradise is the second book in the New Beginnings series. I absolutely recommend this book for fans of Christian and Amish fiction. It was full of interesting characters, decisions to be made, catastrophe and love.
Nora moves to Paradise to follow Elam Detweiler, who continues to straddle the fence between the Amish world and the Englisch world. Back in Harmony, Maine, Nora was intrigued with Elam. However, his antics in Paradise are making Nora question whether she loves him. And into the story walks Lewis Miller, who himself has followed the woman he loves to Paradise...and that woman is Nora. They met in Maine and Lewis is determined to marry Nora. Nora has some big decisions to make in the book and the story is highly enjoyable. I am really looking forward to reading the third book in the series.
This is book 2 but you can read it as a stand-alone. Nora follows the young man (that she thinks she is in love with) to Paradise, MO. Once she gets she mets Lewis. What's a girl to do? Two young men vying for her attention. Nora grows up a lot, learns to place more faith in God, has to make decisions as a young woman. You will love the people and feel like they are your friends. Mary shows a young girl growing into a mature young lady with the help of friends, love and faith. Mary shows the faith but not in a preachy way. She shows the natural progression of an immature young lady becoming a mature young woman through love and faith. A very good book and can't wait for another new book by Mary Ellis.
Have you ever wished you had done something, anything, differently? I have. And so does Nora King in Mary Ellis' Love Comes to Paradise. She left Lancaster to hide from her past. She leaves Harmony to find peace. And she ends up in Paradise. She finds a new friend and the man she believes to be her future.
Love Comes to Paradise is book two in The New Beginnings series, but can be read as a stand-alone.
Mary Ellis reminds u that we all have flaws, but that love covers a multitude of sins.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, and if you like Amish romance, you will too.
***I received this book from the publisher/author for purposes of review. The above opinion is my own.***
When Elam Detweiler leaves Nora King’s overly conservative Amish district of Harmony, Maine, Nora follows him. Is she really expecting sparks to fly when Elam knows she’s in Paradise, Missouri? She corresponds with Lewis Miller whom she knew in Harmony. With Lewis’s appearance Elam’s interest in Nora increases. Ellis writes the Amish stories with feelings and facts. She draws her characters so we feel we know them and their dilemmas. Nora must choose between bad-boy Elam and her Amish faith with Lewis.
Mary Ellis writes fiction that is captivating, but most of all, each story captures God’s love and the importance of faith and trust in God even when we don’t understand circumstances. Love Comes to Paradise, the second book in her New Beginnings series, doesn’t disappoint. The story follows Nora King and her struggles to follow her heart while following her faith in God. Mary’s way of intertwining God’s word and message, while adding humor and true to life characters and story line, is sure to bless every reader.
This book is awesome. This is the second book in the series and it is just as good as the first, you will be wanting more after you finish this book. Even if you did not read the first one you will be able to follow this book. You will fall in love with Nora King, and you will be hoping she makes the right decision on love. Mary Ellis is a wonderful and very talented author, her writing is so caring and I love all the Bible verses that she uses, It is a must read
Nora King moved to Paradise, Missouri for one reason: to follow a man she thinks she may love. Non-conforming Elam Detweiler--who likes fast cars and the freedom they represent--can't decide whether he'd rather remain Amish and pursue Nora or sieze his freedom to move into a larger, less restrictive world. Then a former acquaintance, Lewis Miller, comes for a visit from conservative Harmony, Maine and well, as they say, the plot thickens!
Receiving a new Mary Ellis book in the mail is always a good reason to make a cup of tea and cuddle down in a comfortable chair to enjoy it. I especially enjoy her New Beginnings series, prompted by the real life need in the Amish community to expand beyond Lancaster County due to a critical lack of available, affordable farmland there. Each settlement in this Amish diaspora develops a set of community mores that give it individual character and make it unique.
Paradise, Missouri turns out to be perfect for Nora, who finds a job she loves and new friends she enjoys. The town is generous enough in spirit and practice that it almost suits Elam himself. But is it too relaxed for the conscientious Lewis? Which man will Nora choose?
These questions are part of a wonderfully complex, yet simultaneously simple story of work, love, friendship, and faith among realistic and imperfect Amish characters who struggle with genuine issues. In short, it's a perfect Mary Ellis novel: well-plotted, beautifully written, and always positive without being saccharine. If you already enjoy Amish fiction, this new novel should delight you. If you're unfamiliar with the genre, the New Beginnings series is a great place to start.
Mary Ellis is a woman of deep faith who writes best selling, award winning novels that are also uplifting Christian literature. Love Comes to Paradise is the second book in a planned trilogy called “New Beginnings” which began with Living in Harmony that was awarded The Christian Manifesto’s 2012 Lime Award for Excellence in Amish Fiction. Individual books in the series can be enjoyed as stand-alone novels.
In Love Comes to Paradise, adventurous Nora chooses to relocate to the home of relatives in a more liberal district in Paradise, Missouri. They welcome her with generous hearts, humor and the example of their strength and abiding faith. Her fresh start may not have had the finish she anticipated but her journey made for an engaging diversion. Mary writes about realistic, true-to-life situations with well-drawn, likeable characters the reader will cheer for as they work through doubt and conflicts. The peace and joy found through living a simpler, less materialistic, noncompetitive and calmer, slower paced life as described in this uplifting series may move readers to compare and contrast their own lives with the Amish characters and may prompt them to affect small changes in pursuit of a simpler, less frenetic and more satisfying life.
I looked forward to this second book in The New Beginnings Series by Mary Ellis and was not disappointed. I enjoyed this story from beginning to end. So many great characters, lots of plot surprises, and romance that thrills your heart combine to make this a delightful read. Once you start to read this book it's hard to put down! Interesting story. Compelling characters. Wonderful writing. I highly recommend this book.
