I bought this book a little more than a month ago. When I logged on to do this review, I noticed the cover has changed--I can only hope it means the author did some serious overhauling of his work! The author claims this book is for grades 5-8+. For the most part this is true but it soon becomes evident that he's not writing for middle school/junior high. Questions are vague and poorly written. Sources for the internet activities have involved deciphering government census numbers which is a pretty tall order for any young person and I don't care how smart they are. Of course, maybe those sites had different info on them back in the day--On several occasions, I noticed the data was quite old. That was because the book was copyrighted 1999 and has not had any revisions since. Now, when you're talking about the development of the Internet and your data is dated 1995--that's basically worthless. The final straw came yesterday when this book and I parted ways philosophically. If you believe government's role is to redistribute wealth (I kid you not--check out Section 5 if you don't believe me) and you think the Keynesian approach to smoothing out the bumps caused by the so-called 'business cycle' is the way to go, then this may be the book for you. It is not for me. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this book.
