This book tells Lauren’s story not only from her perspective but also from her parents and her sister, Brittany. I found myself engrossed in Lauren’s story from page one. Lauren tells her story with honesty and courage as if she is only speaking with you. Lauren not only speaks about the accident and her feelings but she also gives us a look into her past and shares her belief and faith in the Lord that has given her the strength and perseverance to make it through various events in her life.
Other chapters within the book are also written from the perspective of her sister, Brittany and her parents, Cheryl and Jeff Scruggs. Lauren’s parents and sister write of their own worries and struggles with the accident and Lauren’s recovery, however what really shines through is this family’s faith and strength in the midst of this life-changing event.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book. It is well-written featuring such honesty and really showcases a message of hope and encouragement that everyone needs to read. Lauren’s story is truly inspiring and is such a powerful illustration about how God uses us to positively impact others.

The book Still Lolo: A Spinning Propeller, a Horrific Accident, and a Family's Journey of Hopeis written by Lauren Scruggs and the Scruggs Family with Marcus Brotherton. I think most of us remember hearing about Lauren Scruggs who walked into a plane propeller and lost sight in one eye as a result. At the time that I heard about the accident in the news, I wondered how something like that could have happened. This book explains that and also how Lauren and her family got through the healing and recovery process.
Not only is Lauren's background interesting, but her parents' story is very interesting also. Her parents had married, had two children (Lauren and her sister) and then divorced. Both parents eventually put Christ in their lives, then remarried several years after the divorce. The family turned to their faith after Lauren's accident to get them through the accident and recovery.
I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anyone. The book is very inspiring and also reinforces that God is not concerned about outward appearances, but about what is in our heart.

This is the story of Lauren Scruggs dealing with an accident that in a split second changed her life forever. The story is told from her birth to the accident and how she has been faithful to GOD all her life. This book is faith based and would be really great for teenage girls that are facing all of society's pressure and the way that GOD intends us to be.
I was very impressed and inspired by how Lauren and her family have always kept the faith in the situations that they have had to deal with and turning to GOD for all the answers. One of the favorite chapters is how Lauren describes NY and the Big Apple to the apple in Genesis, it was a great way to explain sin-- loved it.
Something that surprised me most was that Lauren was not a model or rich as most of the media stories have said when covering her accident. This part of the book is really interesting that the media is not sharing the true story; the book tells the truth and it is really different then what
the public has been told by the news.
I would recommend this to everyone to read. It will inspire you and you will want to have others read this encouraging story. If you are a teen girl or have a teenage girl read this book you will love it.

Still Lolo by Lauren Scruggs and the Scruggs family is an inspiring true story about the Scruggs experience when Lauren walked into an airplane’s propeller a year ago this past week and lost her left hand and left eye. Think Bethany Hamilton of Soul Surfer.
When I called this book an inspiring true story it wasn’t just because the phrase was typed on the front cover or because others have called it inspiring. I think whenever I read a book detailing someone’s tragic event and comes through it stronger it helps those of us hearing about it be inspired to adapt to life’s changes and to look at life’s challenges differently.
Bethany Hamilton actually wrote the forward of this book and shared Lauren’s definition of every day courage,
Even when life hits you hard, keep going.
I can only imagine how Bethany and Lauren must have felt as they went through the ordeals life threw at them with the propeller and shark attack. I am sure this is something they had to remind themselves over and over again.
Here are some of the notes I took from the book as I was reading it:
Christ as our strength and source of hope…
Bethany also shared how God mended and healed their hearts again and again. How often do we need him to do that for us?
The Physical Therapist story on page xii of Bethany’s intro…the Physical Therapist wanted Lauren to take 20 steps and Lauren took 30. Bethany said this encouraged and inspired her to take “10 extra steps”
80 people filled the waiting room once word got out that Lauren was in the hospital - they were all waiting for the word “stabilized” – I don’t even think I know 80 people who would do that for me or my family.
Isaiah 40:29-31 was shared within the book and I started reading it on a day that I was emotionally, mentally exhausted and it was an encouragement to me.
There were other things that stood out to me too, like the fact that Lauren’s parents got divorced but the end result was a blessing most divorcees do not get to experience.
The Scruggs’ family friend, Cindy, who told Lauren, ” God wants to use you mightily for his purposes, in ways you can’t yet imagine. But before he can do a work through you, he needs to do a work in you.” She seemed to speak life into Lauren. Negativity is a common trait in our society. I wonder what would happen if more of us chose to speak uplifting words instead of words that tear down – how different the world would be?
As you can see by the things I shared from the book, I gleaned a lot from it. I loved how the whole family’s story was interwoven and included. It really gave a clear picture of their family, where Lauren came from, where she was at, how she was before the accident and after. By allowing each family member to tell his or her version of the story gave a clearer picture of their life.
I give Still Lolo two thumbs up as a must-read book. Just beware to shed a few tears in the process.

A touching and inspiring story of a young woman’s journey from the door of death to the struggle to survive against all odds.
This story spoke to me in so many different ways. It told me that no matter how we look on the outside, scars, missing limbs, etc. that God loves us for what we are on the inside.
If we don’t think of what’s wrong on the outside, God can use us in mighty ways, way beyond we can ever imagine,
I sincerely hope that you decide to read Still Lolo, the story of Lauren Scruggs and her family’s journey.

This true story of Lauren Scruggs (also known as Lolo) was a difficult one for me to read because of personal circumstances. However, because of those same circumstances, I definitely could feel with the parents and friends as they worked through this trauma, and the many miracles that came their way. This is a very uplifting story, a light in a dark world. The courage and stamina of the young Lauren is amazing, and will be a great example to others. As much as this is an inspirational account of an amazing young woman coming back from the brink of horror , it is also a tribute to those involved with her before, during and after the accident. She certainly has been on a roller coaster of a ride, from being involved with the fashion world, being a rising star, to having lost so much of what one would think was her identity to again finding her way.
Reading this we are challenged to reach out an make the world around us a better place, as well as help others to make their lives more meaningful. I think everyone reading this will be changed in some way. I recommend that every adult read this.

Still Lolo, written by the Scruggs family and Marcus Brotherton, is a biography about how Lauren’s tragic accident with her helicopter propeller collision, changed not only her life, but also that of those around her. The blurb reads like this:
In Still Lolo, Lauren reveals what really happened that night, how she survived against all odds, and what her life is like today. She is unflinchingly honest in the face of difficult questions: ‘What kind of future will I have? Will anyone be able to love me now? Where is God in all this pain?’ Through her story, Lauren calls us to live a life without fear and to overcome whatever challenges threaten to limit us. … Still Lolo is a compelling and fiercely beautiful account of faith, determination and staying true to who you are-no matter what.
However, Lauren’s story also dates back to her childhood, so that we not only get to know Lauren in her present situation, but also what kind of person she is. It permits us to also see what events shaped her life and personality, allowing her to establish a strong and firm relationship with Christ, who proved to be the source of power and strength in her journey for recovery. These moments also demonstrate that in reality everyone is human, no matter their struggles or popularity. Lauren Scruggs is the perfect example of this for her questions after the accident are ones everyone faces, no matter their situations. The added dimension brought by this story is that the whole Scruggs family voiced their side of the story, adding a wider scope to the story line.
What I love most about this book is the biblical encouragement brought across. Lauren’s story is a great example of how God works through the bad and trying moments in our lives and although we may not realise it, God is right by our side. I found this message really reassuring because it is so easy to forget that God is amidst our struggles for we feel lost and alone. When in reality all we need to do is cry out for help where we will then be comforted. All that is required is faith.
Another aspect I found really comforting, was that Lauren’s story taught me that our futures are all in God’s hand. All we have to do is submit it and live for God. Whether we get married, get the kind of career we were wishing for or what we will eat, Lauren taught me that if we on God’s path, we will be blessed. It may not be the way we expected, but the fact that God blessed us is what counts.
One of the major messages conveyed was that no matter what life may throw our way, we are to live strong and persevere and the fact that God is on our side should give us that added boost of strength. For some of us, Lauren’s new normal may seem challenging and unfortunate, but it is really the way she tackles it that makes it what it is. Lauren has decided to continue living positively and through this decision has not only impacted her family, but also those touched by her story, encouraging them, as well as giving them a new outlook on life.
I would highly recommend this book to those young adults and older. Whether you personally have experienced similar events to that of Lauren or not, the book is for you due to the encouragement it provides in strengthening your walk with Christ.

Two steps. It doesn’t sound like much, compared to how many steps we take throughout the day. But on December 3,2012 two steps changed Lauren Scruggs’ life forever. It was that night that Lauren stepped out of a friend’s plane, and into a spinning propeller. It was this accident that caused Lauren to lose her hand, her eye, and nearly her life.
In the book Still Lolo, we see the story of Lauren and her family’s trial and faith throughout her injury and recovery. As you can imagine, the whole ordeal was both physically and emotionally draining. Yet, throughout it all, their faith and confidence in the Lord held them together and gave them hope.
As you can imagine, for Lauren, life after the accident required many adjustments. As a fashion journalist, you can imagine Lauren was very conscious of her appearance. However, the Lord brought Lauren to the realization that she was still beautiful, that she could still be loved, and that he still had a plan for her. This is a lesson that all young ladies need to learn at one point or another.
I was quickly drawn into this book. I found it to be inspiring, encouraging and eye-opening. I highly recommend this book to you!!

Still Lolo. The title itself was enough to interest me. Even though I started reading the book during a very busy week, I still read it every quiet chance I had. The story starts with and belongs to a young woman whose life seemed to be absolutely charmed. She loved Jesus, had an exciting and fulfilling life and a wonderful family that brimmed with support and love for each other. Then one day everything changes and Lauren’s life is torn apart by a tragic accident.
The story is told by several different members of her family, and because of the way the story is laid out, you don’t get the whole story at once. You get a glimpse into the tragedy, and then get the story of Lolo’s life before her accident. I have to say, that’s a huge part of what kept me reading late into the night. There was suspense. What could possibly threaten to derail the life of this beautiful, successful woman?
And then comes the story of redemption. Of courage. Of strength that can only come from a real, deep relationship with Jesus. The story of getting back up after being thrown to the ground and having a vital part of your identity taken from your life. I don’t know if I could hope to be so tenacious.
The story is inspiring, it’s beautiful and it’s told in a very clear and real tone. Almost as if you are sitting in the room with Lauren’s entire family listening to their story.
If you are looking for an inspiring, real life story to read, I promise you this book will remind you that God’s hand is in everything, and not a single one of your problems are too large for him to make beautiful.

It's hard to believe that it has been nearly a year since this accident. Lauren is a friend of a friend, so I remember getting a message about the accident and being asked to pray. I also followed her progress on Caring Bridge as I continued to pray for her and her family...and I stayed in awe of what God was doing; I cried on the bad days and rejoiced on the good ones...and was tremendously blessed by the strength and hope this family found in tragic circumstances. Reading the more detailed ups and downs of the past year through the memories of Lauren, [her twin sister] Brittany and each of her parents enforces the power of God in each of our lives. More than just a summary of the past year, this is also an honest portrayal of a family that has been shattered through divorce but mended stronger than ever through Jeff and Cheryl's remarriage. The security these parents tried to give their daughters during the years apart, is an inspiration and example to others whose marriages have ended.
Young, beautiful, and just starting on her career in the field she loved, including launching LOLO Magazine , Lauren's life changed in an instant. Just the physical impact alone of losing her hand and her eye are numerous: Depth perception changes, and having to relearn basic tasks that you normally don't even think about are hard enough, plus there was also unimaginable pain and facing a myriad of fears. Lauren gives us insights into the physical, but she also shares the emotions she went through (and, I am sure, will continue to face). The physical, emotional, and psychological pain and triumphs are shared with raw honest emotion that truly speaks to the reader. Throughout it all, her faith, her family, her friends, and her physical fitness each played a role in her recovery.
She mentions a song, Restoration, based on Psalm 30:11 that has special meaning for her and is a promise she clings to as she adapts to changes in her life. Her habits of healthy eating and regular exercise had to have been a large plus in her healing, but there were equal parts of a determined strength to overcome odds, and the assurance that her life is in God's Hands...no matter what. I believe this is a book that can provide hope and inspiration to people of any age, but a special encouragement to young women. Lauren is a prime example of taking the interests and abilities God has given you and stepping forward in faith and gratitude for His blessings. I highly recommend the book!

Conversational. Thought provoking. Real. That is my brief analysis of this book. Lauren “Lolo” Scruggs exemplifies “living life right where you are” and “shining for Jesus” through it all. Many times Christians appear to have it all together and things look so “easy”. Lauren and her family share how life was NOT easy after this unexpected tragedy but took on the challenge with grace and determination, shining like Christ.
In the first third of Still Lolo, the Scruggs family set up the story – each family member takes turns sharing from their own perspective. By the time of “the accident”, the book became a quick read – a CAPTIVATING, REAL story – and the authors do a fantastic job of balancing their emotions. I felt like I was RIGHT THERE with them from then on out!
When it all comes down to it, do we REALLY have the faith in God that we say we have? Lauren and the Scruggs family can yell affirmatively “YES”! They went through the fire and came out shining! I would be honored to have a daughter with Lauren’s faith and commitment to godly things!
This is one non-fiction book I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

WOW! This book is AMAZING!!!!
Lauren and her family candidly tell their story, the good, the bad, and the ugly.
From the remarkable birth of Lauren and her twin sister Brittany, to the sad story of their parents divorce, the forthright conversation throughout the book is refreshing!
Despite Laurens conviction that God has a perfect plan for her life is still not enough to keep her from doing things the way she wants to do them, not because she's a weak person but because she's human, but she comes back to him in humility and asks his forgiveness.
After finding forgiveness and acceptance her life seems to move along relatively smooth until the night of her tragic accident. After walking in to the propeller blade of their friends airplane, she loses her left eye and left hand, but she is lucky to have gotten away with her life.
While recovering from her accident she becomes angry with the whole situation, but with help from truly godly family and friends, she begins to quit being afraid of being imperfect, of being different, and as she wrote in her book, "TO BE TRULY OKAY WITH HOW OTHERS SEE YOU".
My admiration for Lauren Scruggs is off the charts!
This book is definitely inspirational, I'm SO glad that I read this book!!!!!

written by Lauren Scruggs and the Scruggs Family
with Marcus Brotherton
When I asked to review this book I didn't realize that this book was about Lauren, the young woman who was hit by a plane propeller.
I watched Katie Couric 2 days before I got this book and was blessed by her saying "God" so many times in her story...
This book is the true story of what she and her family went through during a very sad time in her life.
She says in the first chapter when she was in the plane she felt uneasy and fearful....but said this prayer "Whatever happens, God, my life is in Your Hands." Not knowing that it would be this very scary and painful trial in her life but, she knew she was in HIS hands.
Lauren and her family share their very personal and honest lives as they go through the surgeries, rehabilitation's and more.
They have their highs and lows but always know Who to go to for help, through prayer to God our Creator.
They take you step by step of what they really thought and made me feel like I know them personally.
I read this book in two days i could not put it down!!!
What a wonderful book....I HIGHLY recommend this book to ALL teenagers and parents and even those who have no children...it is VERY INSPIRING and a blessing to read and share with others to read.
I pray that God, our Father will continue to use Lauren and her family to further HIS Glory, Honor and Praise. In Jesus Matchless Name AMEN

I still vividly remember the news story from December 3, 2011: Lauren Scruggs had just landed with a girlfriend after viewing Christmas lights from above in a small prop plane piloted by a family friend. The young communications graduate, who had started a fashion website called Lolo and had worked in the wardrobe department of the TV show "Gossip Girl," is thought to have turned to say a final goodbye to the pilot when the horrible accident occurred. The 23-year-old fashion blogger and model, “Lo”, as her family and friends affectionately call her, was hit by a still-spinning airplane propeller. She was rushed to a hospital where she underwent a series of emergency operations. She lost her left hand and left eye. Far from dwelling on the horror of this face-changing accident, she writes about its life-changing spiritual implications. "I have kind of gained a new perspective of life," she told a recent interviewer, "and I feel like I need to use my message of hope and healing to help others, and inspire others, just like people have inspired me."
As a model and fashion blogger, Lauren Scruggs built a life and career that prioritized beauty and physical appearances. She had interviewed tons of gorgeous celebrities and traveled to Paris, Montreal, and New York to report on Fashion Week. But far from wallowing in self-pity, “Lolo” now sees God’s beautiful plan in her life. The accident has transformed the way Lauren sees herself and her God-given mission in life. She realizes that there are more important things in her life than the way she looks.
Still Lolo: A Spinning Propeller, a Horrific Accident, and a Family's Journey of Hope is a story that spins out of human control but not beyond the control of God. In this memoir, “Lolo” and the Scruggs family with Marcus Brotherton, embark on a journey of fear, anger, despair, hope and beauty as they shift gear to and fro.
Thirty-two chapters of a well-written 272-page book, with contributions from Lauren’s mother Cheryl, father Jeff and sister Brittany, it begins with fear An Unmistakable Premonition and ends with praise Giving Thanks. Lauren's courage and insight shines through out in her memoir. Each family member shared their own take of the night's events and how hope triumphed. The book and the story of the Scruggs family, most importantly that of Lauren Scruggs, is a clear demonstration that even when we despair and find ourselves helpless God is not helpless even among the ruins of life.
