I love it when a novel impacts me deeply and challenges the way I think about my life, my faith, and my ideas. I also love it when a novel keeps me thinking about it long after I read the last page. This is such a novel. I understand the author has a ministry that helps Muslim women trapped in a culture that forbids them to deviate from their religion in the slightest. Her ministry and love for the Muslim people shines through in every page as we follow a nail-biting story of revenge, hatred, murder, intrigue, redemption, spiritual warfare, and romance. Yes, I said romance! Hard to believe with all the other things going on. But Ms. Arana pulls it off! Besides, the FBI-agent/spy/terrorist/hero is really cool and got my blood pumping more than once. This is a book you won't want to miss!

Put Nikki Arana at the top of your list, folks!
"Next Target," Arana's latest work, possesses the same great writing you loved in the Winds of Sonoma series ("As I Have Loved You" stands proudly on my bookshelf) but delves into the horrific reality of life for Muslims who hear the voice of Jesus and long to explore the Holy Scripture but risk torture and/or death if they do so.
If you enjoy unexpected twists, lovable but flawed heroes and heroines, and 2011 application of fiction to your life, invest in "Next Target." This book will have you researching, praying, discussing. Yes, this book will leave you changed. Isn't that what great stories are all about?

The Next Target was thought provoking, terrifying, and comforting all at the same time.
Thought provoking because I knew little of extremist Islam culture, or the incredible power wielded by the extremist imam (as portrayed in the story), and the real danger to those who try to minister to Muslims. In the story, the imam used the "tolerance" of the United States to his advantage and to promote the purpose of jihad.
Terrifying because of Austia's fear of asking for help from the police because she didn't know if any of the Muslims on the force were aligned with the imam. A real possibility.
Comforting because Austia recognized the battle for what is was - a spiritual battle. (And we all know how that turns out!) No matter how desperately they tried to destroy their enemies, through it all, God reigned supreme!
Her story could easily have been taken from the front page of our newspapers.

The Next Target was a heart stopper - Once started, I could not put it down. The death of Sabirah because she had converted from Islam to Christianity was only the beginning. Following her death, there was the continued danger for those who had been involved in leading her to know Jesus.
The story was well worth the time spent reading - at least till the climax and events following that climax. The jump from climax to conclusion was too quick and unexpected, leaving this reader disappointed and expecting more. Events were missed and left unexplained in the context of the story.
That being my only disappointment, I found the book exciting and satisfying.
A year ago, I was privileged to read another book that focused on the evangelism of Muslims. The Camel: How Muslims Are Coming to Faith in Christ was a glimpse into the real lives of men and women who are sharing Christ to those who practice Islam. Though fictional, The Next Target served as a good review to the task that must be faced by those who are presenting a Savior to a faith that has rejected Jesus’ divinity.

This was a very fast paced and intriguing book. There is action and suspense along side the discussions of the Muslim religion. The author definitely did research on the subject and it shows in the detailed writing.
Austia does not know whom she can trust! She is caught with knowledge others seek and they will stop at nothing to reach her. There is so much information in this book about the Muslim culture and the author weaves it in flawlessly in this fictional suspense novel.
I enjoyed the suspense and action. I learned from the authors descriptions and story line quite a bit about the differences of the Muslim community verses the Christian community. I gave the book 4/5 stars for one main reason. When I sit to read a fictional novel I really want to read an uplifting book. I found this book depressing at times and a bit too much of the comparisons of religions. If there could have been less of that and even more of the action and suspense I would have enjoyed it even more.

Put everything aside and pick up this book! You will not want to put it down for even a second. I was driven to distraction every time I had to put it down to do something else... This book is so action packed and filled with unexpected events.
So, send the spouse and kids on errands, turn off the phone, call in sick to work... and plop yourself on the couch with this book! It is SO worth it!

The Next Target was a really suspenseful and intriguing read. There were a few things I personally didn't like (i.e. Jesus appearing in Fatima's dream, Austia getting the response "Trust Me" when she was praying, etc.), but other than that, I really enjoyed it!
At first, I wasn't sure what to think about Zaki (whether to like his character or not), but as the story progressed, I found myself liking him more and more - he may even have been my favorite character in The Next Target.
While there wasn't much mystery (it was pretty much known who the "bad" guy was), there were a few tiny twists/surprises that I liked along with the little bit of romance.
It isn't really a surprise to me that I enjoyed this novel, I've enjoyed other books that are slightly similar to The Next Target (having to do with terrorists, etc.). One other thing I really liked was how I got to know the Muslim religion and some of their customs a little bit better.
The Last Target was a great read and I recommend it if you like suspense books or books that deal with terrorism.

The Next Target is a stunning story of a Christian who takes a stand against radical Islam in her community. Even though her husband was killed for his ministry to the Muslims, Austia is determined to carry on his work. But when she hires a new interpreter and one of her clients at the employment center is a victim of an honor killing, she realizes she has become the next target of the radical imam and leader of a terrorist cell determined to "take over" America. This fast-paced suspense grabbed me from the beginning with the premise and kept me reading well past my bedtime in order to learn what happens next.
Nikki Arana writes with knowledge and compassion about a subject that is all too real in our world. She shows an understanding of other cultures that goes beyond basic research. I love to read fiction for more than pure entertainment, and The Next Target opened my eyes to more opportunities to put my Christian faith into action. I highly recommend this book.

The title of this riveting novel may sound like a mystery thriller. In a way it is, but not as you might expect. The Next Target delivers a behind-the-scenes view of a radical Muslim plot to turn America into an Islamic nation. Muslims who dare to explore or accept Christian truths face threats and even death. Set in California, this story feels too true and will open your eyes to what could actually be occurring right now.
A young female student in Austia’s English language class is the victim of an honor killing because she turned to Christ. Zaki, a new Muslim employee at the Career Center, prompts suspicion. Is he trying to learn more about Austia’s true purpose behind teaching Muslim women to speak English? Austia’s husband had been killed trying to share Christ in his Kuwait homeland. Will his widow also become a casualty in this spiritual battle?
Nikki Arana’s powerful tale works its way into your heart. I believe this is a life-changing book that will make readers think about the potential of current issues and how they could make a difference. It has made me more aware of how Muslims think and motivates me to pray for their eyes to be opened to God’s truth.

Austia Donatelli has a Jesus kind of love toward Muslim women in spite of the fact her husband was murdered by extremists. She is shaken when one of her students studying English language at the Cultural Center, who secretly converted to Christianity is murdered in an honor killing. Then a man named Zaki appears at the center applying for a job as translater. Can he reach Muslim men in the community or is he a spy? Austia's brother set her up with Dave who seems to be someone she could be interested in as he expresses interest in the Cultural Center. Through a series of twists and turns who and what can Austia believe? This is an exciting story that is a page turner and you will not welcome any interruptions. This book is not for women only, men will enjoy the roller-coaster ride, too. The story is not heavy on romance, but on action and saving Austia's life among others...Who will be the next target? I think the book's cover is very attractive also.

This is book is captivating and can’t put it down until it is finished! I believe the book accurately portrays how many people feel about the Muslim faith. It made me realize the need to pray for them to be set free from such an unforgiving and no hope faith especially for women, but men as well. It brings an awareness of how strong the persecution is for Muslims who converted to Christianity and those who witness to them. Through reading this book, I learned that Muslims-whether by name only, moderate, or devoted are not safe. The reality of honor killings, the spread of jihad cells and power of their Iman, the Muslims background believers in Christ need protection and our prayers.

This story illustrates how we can make a difference in our world through loving others, but it also illuminates us to the fact that it is often hard and sometimes dangerous. The plot makes us think about people who pay the ultimate price for their beliefs, the extent to which some people go to further their beliefs and what some people give up to who guard our freedoms. The story is well structured and blends danger and darkness with enough light and love to keep the reader hopeful that things will turn out well. The characterization of the hero is complex, leaving the reader wanting to know more. The heroine shows vulnerability and naiveté as well as strength and resolve.

Austia Donatelli, never dreamt the paths her life would take the day she watched her husband, David, board the airplane on his way to minister to the Muslims.
Now, with the passing of David's death, Ausita, has felt the Lord leading her to continue his ministry. Working at the Career Center, she is helping the Muslim women learn the English language. When women begin to come to her, to learn about Jesus, she knows that she is not only putting their lives in danger, but her own.
When one of her students, Sabirah, a Muslim, is found shot, Austia, knows that her family were responsible. Had she been careless in her ministry?
Zaki, a Muslim man, comes in shortly after and applies for a job to be an interpreter for the Muslim men that come to the Center. Has he been sent to find out if Austia is the one, responsible for Sabirah becoming a Christian? Could he be the one that not only ends her ministry, but her life?
I first become acquainted with the author, Nikki Arana, when I reviewed her first book, "The Winds of Sonoma". This was the first in the series, "Regalo Grande". I fell in love with this author. When she asked if I would be interested in reviewing her new book, I absolutely jumped at the chance.
"The Next Target" is completely different that the first three, and I was taken in by the first page. I started reading it at night and found that it was 4am, when I finished. This is a book that I will share, but I definitely want back on my shelf.
In this book, I was given a glimpse of what Muslim women have to go through. Freedom, that I take for granted. I highly recommend this book. Nikki Arana, has written a book that will take the reader on a journey, that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Just remember to breathe.
I give this book a 5 star rating and I am looking forward to more books from this talented author.

This book may be fiction but it is as real as it gets. I am a quick reader but paced myself as not to gather more information than I could digest in one reading. I found myself pondering what I had read and trying to anticipate what was going to happen next. I rarely got it right. After reading "Target", I felt more informed than ever about the abuse the Muslim women go through while believing this is there lot in life. Loving them with the love of Christ is truely the answer but as shown as the pages unfold... not without a cost. I would recommend this book to anyone, Christian or not. It captures your interest from the first page to the last.

Next Target was a page turner from the very beginning. The twists in the plot kept the tension high. The background information on Muslim thought and practices increased believability while managing to show both moderate Muslim believers and radical ones.
There is a lot of Christian terminology that wouldn't be understood by an unbeliever, but the overall plot is one that would capture the imagination of any reader who likes suspense.
Who is willing to die for their belief system? Who can be trusted? Can Austia help Muslim women break free of intolerable life conditions? Will God's love prevail in the midst of naivete, mistrust, and misunderstandings? Next Target is an exciting read.

Want an emotional roller-coaster ride? Read "The Next Target." It's a vividly written suspense novel in which Nikki Arana not only plays cat and mouse with her characters -- but you'll sometimes be surprised by who's the cat and who's the mouse. Filled with tension and "oh no!" moments, the book is skillfully crafted with twists and turns that kept me guessing with each page. Every time I thought I could see where the story was going, it headed into an entirely different direction...right up to the end.
I always feel it's a bonus when a piece of fiction makes me think. While reading "The Next Target," I found myself struggling with things like culture clash, women's rights and my own set of prejudices. And I learned things...such as the terrible plight of women who, like the characters of Sabirah and Fatimah, are born into the "hopelessness of Islam." Thanks to the fact that Nikki Arana allows the light of Christ's love to shine through in her writing, I have a newfound heart for these women...and a renewed gratitude for the blessings in my own life.

Nikki Arana weaves a heartfelt story that grows with each page turn. She makes it hard to guess what is going to happen next and her writing literally had my heart pounding as I read.
Austia, the main character in the book, is inspirational. She is dedicated to the call on her life and willing to obey God even if it means giving her life for the people she serves.

I would have like to see more character and scene development in the book. Sometimes, I felt like I wasn't sure what a person looked like or where they lived or what the area was like throughout the book.
