Whether you grew up in an alcoholic home or perhaps are married to someone who abuses alcohol and/or drugs, this book can help you to heal from the trauma and drama that tends to go along with that. It's a great tool to overcome issues that are so pervasive in our lives; those same issues you've been trying to deal with for years. This book can help to get you off that merry-go-round, as you focus on the healing power of God.

Many people either suffer from the disease of addiction or have a loved one that does. The addiction can be drug and alcohol related but can also be an addiction to something else like sex, gambling or eating. Addiction is anything that causes one's life to be unmanageable. Thanks to Alcoholics Anonymous, also known as AA, twelve-step programs are able to help people with a multitude of addictions. Twelve-step programs do not guarantee recovery, however the odds of someone being able to recover from an addiction is higher than those that do not. Studies have shown that “decreased substance use has been reliably associated with greater involvement in twelve-step groups” (Zemore & Kaskutas, 2008). Through the twelve steps they work on their character defects. The steps enlighten a person with who they really are and what causes their behaviors. Because a twelve-step program is a spiritual program working the twelve-steps can lead an addict to a spiritual awakening. It is important for someone who struggles with any type of addiction to get help as their addiction can result in jail, institution or death. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. The twelve-steps can break that cycle and offer sanity to any addict.
